Banjul is the capital of The Gambia and only has around 60,000, making it the smallest capital in Africa.
The reason why Banjul is so small is because of it's location, on a peninsula at the mouth of the Gambia river. The Gambia is also continental Africas smallest country and relies mostly on tourism and agriculture.
A massive mangrove landscape separates Banjul from the countries biggest city Serrekunda (~250,000).

Banjul has 60K population only ??? That is similar to the number of people in my neighborhood :) I like the architecture of houses, shops , and mosques in Banjul. Very colorful :) Many West African capital cities are located along the coast, which is another plus .

I think Gambia's unique identity has been shaped largely because of its isolated location inside of Senegal and being the only english speaking country in its part of West Africa that hasn't experienced a civil war (as opposed to S Leone and Liberia).
I heard several vistors describing Gambia as a muslim caribbean island. :)

Banjul's location at the mouth of the Gambia river, here you can easily see how its location stops it from growing which has created relatively large Greater Banjul Area (GBA) alias Kombo. Which includes the towns of Bakau and Serrekunda.

Nice pics. I really would like to visit this place one day. there are so many thing we don't know about Africa yet, People think that Africa is just deserts and jungles, and don't see more beyond this. Too bad. I loved to see more pics. :)

Banjul has a great airport for a city it's size. It shows The Gambia's popularity with European tourists. They're also trying to encourage airlines such as SAA to use the airport as a stopover for US flights.

Small yet compact, that is the Gambia, one of my favorite countries in Africa. I know that the Gambian government used to sell its passport and citizenship to Hong Kong residents prior to Hong Kong returning to China in 1997, in order to attract inward investment. That's a good way to make quick money, but the side effects could also be serious.

Still find it stupid that there's threads about some countries located all the way in the Ecowas section under Nigeria while the thread under the general African section where they belong are dying. :nuts:

If it's regularly updated it stays on the first page and everybody visiting the general section notices the thread.

Plus I think it's disrespectful to have these countries under Nigeria.
They are independent and not some Nigeria extension.
