doha • City residents need to brace themselves for a phase of unstable weather. According to the Department of Meteorology, a period of unstable weather conditions will prevail from today till Saturday.

The weather will turn cloudy, accompanied by rain and thunder at times with easterly to south-easterly moderate to fresh offshore winds.

The rains will intensify on Friday, with northern parts of the country experiencing the most rainfall. By Friday, the surface wind will turn fresh north-westerly, added met officials.

The weather this winter has been unpredictable, to say the least. Icy cold Siberian winds accompanied by sporadic showers have made life miserable for residents.

The minimum temperatures are hovering in the 12-14 degrees centigrade range, while maximum temperatures are between 20-24 degrees centigrade.

Doha • Winter seems to be a little far behind this time in Qatar. Unlike last year, the country may also experience delayed rains. Against an early December rains that Qatar had witnessed last year, the MET officials expect rains only during the month end.

A comparative weather figure indicates that Qatar is more sunny and warmer against the corresponding period last year. The forecast history also shows a marked difference in the maximum and minimum temperatures, at least during the month of December.

For instance, the maximum temperature recorded in Doha during December 8-12 in 2006 was between 18 degrees Celsius and 22 degrees Celsius. And the minimum temperature varied from 18 degrees Celsius to 13 degrees Celsius. However, the maximum temperature forecast during the corresponding period this year varies between 27 degrees Celsius to 25 degrees Celsius and the minimum temperature ranges from 19-17 degrees Celsius.

The daily weather chart has forecast a maximum temperature of 27 degrees Celsius for today. The minimum temperature is 18 degrees Celsius. Qatar witnessed a maximum temperature of 31 degrees Celsius on Saturday. This is against 22 degrees Celsius on the corresponding day in 2006. “It’s true that rain is a little bit delayed this time. But December is the first month of winter in Qatar; and we are expecting rain by next week,” daily weather forecaster at the MET office told The Peninsula.

Qatar has been witnessing an unstable weather over the last one month. A cold spell set on the country when it received the first rains of the season on October 23. Though the temperature was forecast to plummet in the following days, Qatar continued to witness warmer weather.

The unstable weather condition has resulted in health clinics reporting high rate of flu symptoms. Enquiries with various clinics in Doha indicate increasing cases of flu and common cold. “This is primarily because people are exposed to different weather conditions during the day as well as at night. The children and those with a weak immune system will easily fall prey to cold or flu,” Dr Mohammed Basha of Al Rafa Clinic said.

what shower and lightning ??? in alrayan-industrial area zone not a single drop fell :( did it rain in alkhor ??? and why were there roumers that there was a tornado somewhere in Qatar ?? weird ??

^^yes there was quite a long shower, ya i think i agree on the tornado issue since a saw a small long thing in the distance, moving slowly, that cloud were the remains of a cyclone that struck yemen.
