can i shove this in here?

In 2008, the fashion retailer will open its first European store on London's Regent Street, a prime shopping location that boasts fashion tenants like Burberry, Hugo Boss and Lacoste as well as fast-fashion retailers like H&M, Zara and Top Shop.

Banana Republic has already signed the lease, but declined to share specifics. The store will be company-owned and will feature a full merchandise assortment.

"It's a great street and a logical extension of our brand into new markets," said Robin Carr, a spokeswoman for Gap Inc. (NYSE: GPS) "Going international is definitely an important opportunity for the company. We are exploring other markets."

Banana Republic has company-owned stores in Canada and Japan, where its first store opened in 2005. This year, F J Benjamin Holdings will open the first franchised Banana Republic store in Singapore.

Banana Republic had 2005 sales of $2.3 billion.

Gap Kids, Levi's and Apple are some of the Bay Area brands with a shop on London's Regent Street.

Never heard of Banana Republic (except for as a definition on some countries..), but what's it got to do with skyscrapers? :tongue2:

Is this some kind of Canadian company that you as a canadian is so proud of you just couldn't let it go unnoticed? :tongue2:

Anyway....:

not sure of the relevance of it either. banana republic is essentialy the only part of GAP inc that has been making any money recently. its opening at the end of this year though if the experiences of its parent company GAP are anything to go by then it will trail the sales of H&Ms new COS chain which opens its regent street store next month

Oh - so its going to be more expensive than GAP??

Gap make some nice clothes (and their jeans always fit me really well) - but they are already pretty pricey.

banana republic started out in the 80's - originally it was a couple of designers who used to re-work old army clothes, uniforms etc. - it was quite funky and the stores were like a jungle with trees and monkeys and they had banana logos and such around

than it got bought out by the GAP in the 80's sometime - they kept that formula for a while and than in the 90's they basically made it an upscale store and it became what it is now
