The explanation is simple – the stadium has started mounting LEDs to backlight the glass facade. When assembled, the main facade section will feature blue backlight, while the perimeter of the upper roof edge will be lined with white light to produce the effect of a soaring roof. Thousands of LEDs are being installed from the inside of the facade. The chief distinction of the facade spot backlighting is its energy efficiency. It will consume just 50-60 kW/h, which is very little, experts say. Regular luminescent or steel-halogen lamps would consume hundreds of kilowatts per hour. From 17 till 21 July FC Shakhtar Press Office accepts applications for accreditation to the domestic match of the third qualifying round of UEFA Champions League in which Shakhtar will face Romaniain Timişoara on RSC Olympiyskiy. NMAISTER007 July 24th, 2009, 04:14 PM Poles Impressed With Donetsk Professionalism 22-07-09 18:35:07 Today, the 5-star Donbass Arena has welcomed the guests again. Marcin Herra, Head of PL.2012 State Agency coordinating preparations for UEFA EURO 2012 in Poland, has arrived in Donetsk for an official visit. The guests from Poland visited the stadium in March, but today they were even more impressed with what they saw, as the Diamond has changed a lot. The Poles walked all around the Donbass Arena and saw all the areas including the rooms for players (In other words, the changing rooms) and the Media Centre. They were interested in everything down to the smallest details: services, displays, amenities in the bowl and in the indoor premises, turnstiles, approach ways to the stadium etc. But the park was the biggest impression. "We have been to many European stadiums and Donbass Arena ranks among the best ones. But we have never seen such a marvellous park like in Donetsk! I can fairly claim that Donbass Arena is a professional work! Here, both senior managers and ordinary workers are highly professional", stressed Mr Herra. Today, Donbass Arena is an example to follow for all stadiums under the construction, the guests say. Non-cash payments within the arena will become one of the most impressive distinctions of the stadium. Payments will be made through an unmatched RFID-card (season-ticket or a one-time payment card). "Fast service is a hallmark of the non-cash payments system at Donbass Arena", says David Bartholomae, project manager for payment solution Corp. (Germany) - a company developing and introducing such systems at stadiums in Germany, England and Switzerland. ”A halftime break is just 15 minutes. Over this period, a guest needs to find an outlet, buy what he wants and get back to his seat. If a multi-thousand stadium operated cash-payments system, it would be impossible to serve all fans”. The best European arenas run such systems, experts say. In Europe, you will spend just 15 seconds to say hello to the cashier and get the goods into your hands. Donbass Arena will also operate such system. When buying from the fast-food, the cashier will not even touch your card. You just put your RFID-card onto the reading-device, the cashier selects the food on the sensor display and a required sum is taken off from your card. The operation is simultaneously registered in the fiscal printer and a receipt is printed out. Interestingly, you will see your balance every time you make a payment. “Donbass Arena will run a system similar to those successfully operated by other stadiums. The only difference is Russian display of the reading device. The benefit of the system at Donetsk stadium is that it has been constantly improved since it was designed. So, Donbass Arena will have the most recent variant. Another distinction of Donbass Arena system is that the card will also serve as a season ticket - a pass to the stadium", explains Mr Bartholomae. As to the RFID-card, it has an inserted chip with a personal code. The chip has an antenna to connect with the reading device. The code of the card opens access to the system. High security is also among the key characteristics of the system. The card and the system can also operate off-line, ie should the central computer collapse, the client will be served anyway. Media Centre Donbass Arena vanbasten July 24th, 2009, 11:18 PM 267 Metres of High Tech Donbass Arena started assembling the banner line of LED screens along the pitch perimeter almost together with testing two huge displays. Philips experts, who are installing and connecting the banners, say that the line is 267 metres long and consists of small interconnected LED screens. Just like the big displays, the line is a high tech facility. Philips applied four unmatched patented technologies to make it. The special feature of banner-screens is that they can be easily dismantled and made into an additional big mobile display. The preparations tp the Opening Ceremony produced by K-Events (Italy) are about to be over. Though the scenario of the show is kept in secret because of the increased attention to the event, the show producers have held the first press conference to unveil a part of the mystery We have interviewed Marco Balich, President of K-Events, Konstantin Kirkaryan, Project Producer, and Oleksandr Atamanenko, Operations Director of Donbass Arena. "Our company is among the leaders producing massive international events. However, we had to bid in a tender to become producers of Donbass Arena opening", says Marco Balich. "This shows the serious intentions of FC Shakhtar president, who sets high goals and never stops at what is done. Mr Akhmetov wishes to make a big celebration to be long-remembered in Donetsk and Ukraine. I can say, that the show is being produced by the professional team, who have a solid record of opening Olympics". Along with a mass choreography show, the Ceremony will include elements dedicated to the history of the region and FC Shakhtar, the organizers shared. The best international experts are working over each element of the project. The key distinction of the oncoming show is team work, strict planning of the time and resources, as well as extensive record of K-Events. By the way, the tickets for the Opening will go on sale on 1 August. Yet they will only be available for holders of season tickets at the moment. Open sales will start on 11 August. As to the price, it will range depending on the sector. The cheapest ticket will cost UAH 100. According to Mr Atamanenko, Donbass Arena has specially developed an extensive price offer, so that everybody could afford attending the breathtaking show. We are making the show with a lot of surprises, but I will not reveal them right now. But I can say for sure, that Donbass Arena opening will feature all elements of a high-class show. We have involved over 1,000 volunteers to deliver on a mass choreography project. Besides, you will enjoy the performance of pop-stars and high-quality music. Also, the opening ceremony will feature a unique pyrotechnic show presenting Donbass Arena in the shape of a diamond. Be sure, we'll make the show that will please your eyes and tug at your heartstrings. An entire team of professionals is involved in the organization of this grand show, so I feel confident giving these promises. I’m happy to present this globally renowned team that we have brought here. We started preparing the show about five months ago, so the K-Events employees have been in Donetsk for quite a long time. This is not going to be just a show coming from abroad. We want the whole city to be involved in the opening ceremony. That is why we are inviting all sorts of artistic teams, gymnastic sections, and everybody willing to participate in the show. Our project will present Donetsk not only to all Ukraine, but also to all Europe. I will tell you a little secret: we expect this event to be broadcast on some European TV channels. I’m not going to introduce all our team of professionals. Let me just say that it numbers about 200 people coming to Donetsk from all Europe and all over the world. It is a real pleasure for me that we are working together with many Ukrainians who make every effort to timely deliver on this project and make it exactly the way we see it. We are working 7 days a week, 20 hours a day, and we enjoy it. I would like to use this occasion to thank our international team and send them my regards. And now please welcome our team. So, the name of the company producing the show is K-Events / Filmmaster Group. We have delivered on over 400 shows and won two Emmy Awards and many other trophies awarded in this area. I directed and produced opening and closing ceremonies for the Turin XX Winter Olympic Games 2006, and the Olympic flag handover ceremony in Salt Lake City in 2002. Recently, we have organized events for the Mediterranean Games in Pescara, Venice Carnival and New Year’s Eve in Venice. I understand that Oleksandr Atamanenko, Donbass Arena Operations Director, feels anxious when he looking at the photos of our shows. But I can assure him, all these stadiums are still operating and hosting sport events. And now a few words about myself. I am CEO of Filmmaster Group. Lida Castelli is the artistic director of our event. She also works a lot in the fashion industry: Moschino, Prada. Besides, Lida was the senior artistic director of opening and closing ceremonies for the 2006 Turin Winter Olympic Games. If you find our show brilliant, it is all thanks to Lida Castelli. Doug Jack is our choreography director. He won an Emmy Award for the best direction and choreography. Another choreographer is Bryn Walters. He created choreography figures for the 2004 Athens Olympic Games opening and closing ceremonies. He also worked as a choreographer at the Mediterranean Games Opening Ceremony in Pescara. An event like Donbass Arena Opening Ceremony is impossible without production. We have engaged three world’s best producers. One of them is Marco Astarita. He produces concerts and tours for Madonna, Sting, Peter Gabriel, Rolling Stones etc. We are pleased to have him in our team. Florian Boje is our set designer, he’s also a very experienced professional. Durham Marenghi, the globally renowned lighting designer, is also working with us. He designed lighting for the famous Pink Floyd concert The Wall. He will join us today. Christophe Berthonneau is one of the world’s best pyrotechnicians. He designed and implemented the horizontal explosion at the Eiffel Tower”. Then, Marco Balich showed a video featuring his company’s works, after that the journalists were invited to ask questions. - How long will the ceremony last? - The ceremony will last about two hours. It will start at 20:00. The arena will open its doors two hours before the start. And a big surprise is awaiting everybody once the ceremony is over. - How old are the youngest and the oldest participants of the opening ceremony? - The youngest boy is 14, and the oldest woman is 55. But, we are still admitting the volunteers, so surprises might occur. - A work of 7 days a week and 20 hours a day affected the organizers' private life. Did anyone get so close to each other as to set up a family? - You know, private life is private life. I wouldn’t like to discuss this subject. If you meet some foreigners in your city in September, maybe they decided to stay here for some reasons (laughing). - Do you hope or are you sure that the opening ceremony will be broadcast in Europe? - The point is that we are currently holding talks with the leading European TV channels. The normal process is underway. These channels are interested in FC Shakhtar for various reasons. First, the Club is the current holder of the UEFA Cup. Second, Donbass Arena stadium is about to be opened. However, the opening will be definitely broadcast all over Ukraine. - How many costumes and stage sets will you use for the opening ceremony? - Over 1,500 costumes have been made for our show, and twice as many pairs of shoes. - Could you tell more about the stage sets? - Apart from the numerous ready-made sets to be brought from abroad, a considerable number of sets will be built in Donetsk. Local contractors are involved for the purpose. Besides, we want to share our experience with those people, who have never produced the mass choreography shows. We will bring here more than 20 trucks of materials, with the total weight over 1,000 tons. As for the sound and lighting, we have created some models to test our capabilities. Many people ask me, if we’ll prepare everything and organize it all on time… Well, we have enough time to do it all just as we have planned. - You’ll have to hold a huge number of rehearsals, so how are you going to keep the ceremony secret? Thousands of people will be involved. - The volunteers started trainings last week. Of course, we will have numerous rehearsals on the lawn. On August 27, we will hold a dressed rehearsal – I mean the fully dressed rehearsal. However, I believe we can keep the ceremony can in secret and I approach journalists to help me do that. - What problems did you face in Ukraine while preparing the ceremony? - Of course, many problems arise when producing events of this scale. However, our team is successfully settling them. So, we haven’t faced any big challenges yet. I’d like to mention that we are open for cooperation with all the choreographic teams and everybody interested. We want to involve 300 more volunteers, so everybody willing to help is welcome. Im sure that the crisis should end either next year, or somewhere in 2011. You're surely not educated in this. What do you think, from where UEFA would have such amounts of money? If you think someone is giving money in Poland for anything, you're truly wrong. Some stadiums in Ukraine (like this in Donetsk) may be built from private money lined with private investors, but all Euro stadiums in Poland are building with public government and cities money. The same issue is about infrastructure. Major amounts country must provide by itself. Only additional grants may be provided from ex. European Union. VelesHomais August 1st, 2009, 08:55 PM Yes. The show will present the Donetsk Diamond to the highest global standards. But this is just one day prepared by hundreds of specialists for months. The "machine" to produce the ceremony should work like a clock. This is a task of Marco Astarita, Technical and Organization Producer of the Grand Show. Mr Astarita, what do you do at Donbass Arena Opening Ceremony? - My objective is to ensure that the grand Show takes place (laughing). - What exactly do you do? - I am on top of the production and organization hierarchy. I supervise, check and encourage all services involved in the Show production. I am interested in the joint and progressive work of all departments. But along with my duties, I am to control everything taking place inside the stadium, as the construction is still underway. - Will the Grand Show include anything you've never done before? - Events of this kind are very similar. But at the same time, each ceremony is singular. You will see all parts of the Show very soon, on 29 August. - So you will not unveil secrets, will you? - If you mean the applied technologies and processes, there’s nothing I've never done before. We will use the best lighting and sound for Donbass Arena Opening. We will involve the best climbers to fix all the facilities on the roof. I’ve been through this and know it all. - You have a solid record of producing the best global shows. What does Donbass Arena Opening mean for you? - This is my first project in Ukraine. I can say for sure, Donbass Arena is a wonderful football facility in every respect. It is well-constructed, packed with the most advanced solutions and has a marvellous design. I know it will be a challenge, but we will do everything we’ve planned. It will be a heart-stopping show. - What emotions do you have about the preparations? - First, it's good experience for me. Of course, I'm happy! But I am quite an experienced man and can control my emotions. I just do my work. - How do you find working with Ukrainian colleagues? - I don't think it will be smooth all the time. In several days, when 30 trucks with our equipment arrive, we will see what challenges will arise. Firstly, we have different cultures and different languages. Nonetheless, I feel Donbass Arena team is very enthusiastic, so everything will be fine. I promise a top quality show. The organizers have got down to technical aspects of the Grand Show. Yesterday, Donbass Arena started preparing the sectors, which will accommodate the stage. First, the workers removed 1,728 seats from the lower tier. Another 280 seats disappeared later. The upper tiers "lost" only 30 seats as light cannons will be mounted there. Besides, glass barriers between the sectors are also gone. The singular Ceremony stage will be installed on the freed sectors on Tier 1 with the assembling to start later next week. Dismantling process involved 25 workers. All removed glass barriers and seats have been safely packed and hidden at the storage. The organizers promise all removed seats will come back after the Ceremony. The workers were testing the acoustic system in the bowl, mounting the goals and cleaning the territories adjacent to the stands. Besides, by the time FC Shakhtar President arrived, protective coating had been removed from all the seats. Emerald green lawn and bright black-n-orange stands were simply ablaze with the setting sun. Rinat Akhmetov ascended to the President Box to enjoy the marvelous overlook of the pitch. Accompanied by Vladimir Kovalevsky, CEO of Donbass Arena Construction Project, and Oleksandr Atamanenko, Donbass Arena Operations Director, Rinat Akhmetov strolled around the stadium to see all the "hot-spots" and checked, whether the facility is ready to open. "Though I was upset after the game with Timishoara, I decided to visit our stadium. I can see the progress here and I strongly believe, on 29 August, Ukraine will get the stadium it has never seen before. Goals mounted on the green lawn mean that the pitch and the whole stadium are ready for heart-stopping football battles. The elite Donetsk stadium will have everything of top-quality to meet UEFA standards. Football goals are no exception. The goals for Donbass Arena are supplied by Mark Harrod, the leading global producer of sports facilities. The goals will be of standard type, size and structure. A special coating for the lawn - Plywood - has been recently delivered to Donbass Arena. It's a special material of many thin plywood sheets glued together. Plywood can withstand big loads, compression, twisting and other deformations. This coating will protect the lawn from damages during the Opening Ceremony. So far, plywood sheets have been laid only along the pitch perimeter on the artificial lawn. This ensured routes for loaders to deliver heavy sets and stage structures for further mounting in the appropriate areas of the stadium. Two days were needed to cover the edge of the lawn and 960 plywood sheets were used for the purpose. Now, the plywood coating hides 1,500 sqm of artificial lawn. The platform for the Grand Show guest-star is being installed in the lower tier, where all seats have already been removed. The riggers are well-organized, so the tribune is rising before your very eyes. The stage will consist of two parts: the platform and the roof to accommodate additional sound and light facilities. The foundation will be made of piped steel elements. The roof will be much lighter and assembled of aluminium structures. While the workers are mounting the stage, the producers are discussing the final details, as well as sound and light requirements made by the guest-star. The roof will also be modelled pursuant to the demands of the guest-star. Besides, light aluminium trusses are being delivered to the bowl via transport corridors covered with Plywood coating. The trusses will be used to suspend sound and light facilities on the roof of Donbass Arena. Today light designers are marking the roof and calculating upcoming loads. Foreign experts have repeatedly pointed out the high quality of Donbass Arena lawn. Yesterday, the pitch of the stadium got the new look as several huge wheeled objects resembling cranes appeared on the lawn. These turned out to be SGL machines used for artificial lighting of the football lawn. As we mentioned before, Donbass Arena has a sloping roof for the maximum natural lighting of the grass. However, a part of green surface still lacks sunlight. To encourage the grass growth and ensure a smooth and quality surface, Donbass Arena has developed a special system providing additional light to individual parts of the lawn. "In total, we have six big and two small artificial light facilities", explains the head agronomist of Donbass Arena. "Currently, we are running two of them, with the rest to be launched soon. Besides, a small SGL has been operating in the pitch corners for long. Using these facilities we can fully make up for the lack of sunlight”. With "lighting devices", the lawn inside the stadium doesn't differ much from the grass growing in the open air and even performs better. A special light sensor is fixed on Donbass Arena roof to measure the amount of light provided for the grass inside and outside the stadium. The sensor is software operated. Based on the data obtained, the personnel can make adjustments and direct lighting to a certain part of the pitch. The time and intensity of the lighting facilities are also regulated in line with the obtained information. Ukrainians have made an excellent job. It is one of the most beautiful stadium in Europe. France must rethink about building new stadiums. A country like Ukraine has built a more modern stadium than those built in a rich country like France. jj707070 August 17th, 2009, 06:31 PM it's one of the best stads in europe vanbasten August 17th, 2009, 06:47 PM Promoters Trained to Operate Cards Donbass Arena Opening is being thoroughly prepared by the technical workers and the staff to attend to visitors at fast-foods and restaurants. They are also trained to issue (initialize) temporary non-personalized payment cards and top them up with money as a prepayment for goods and services. Today, promoter applicants, who have successfully passed castings, took a special course at the stadium. To brief the personnel on distinctions of the non-cash system operation, Donbass Arena invited German experts from Payment Solutions - a company, which specially developed the system for the stadium. The work of the system was demonstrated live. Following a short lecture, the experts suggested the promoters to put some money on the card as a prepayment for goods and services, return the remaining balance and transfer the money from one card to another. The training also tested the facilities to be soon installed in the fast-foods of the stadium. Also, David Bartholomae, Project Manager of Payment Solutions, outlined the standards of promoters’ behaviour at the stadium, starting from their outlook straight to authorized and non-authorized actions. ”A promoter is practically the key chain in the non-cash system, as even such a huge and ultra modern stadium will not operate properly if the personnel are unable to help the guests top up their cards and pay for goods and services at an eating place", emphasized Mr Bartholomae. By the way, promoters of Donbass Arena will wear a very bright and eye-catchy uniform to tell them easily in the crowd. http://shakhtar.com/data/imgdata/galeries/891/25927__max_gal.jpg http://shakhtar.com/data/imgdata/galeries/891/25928__max_gal.jpg http://shakhtar.com/data/imgdata/galeries/891/25929__max_gal.jpg http://shakhtar.com/data/imgdata/galeries/891/25931__max_gal.jpg http://shakhtar.com/data/imgdata/galeries/891/25932__max_gal.jpg http://shakhtar.com/data/imgdata/galeries/891/25933__max_gal.jpg http://shakhtar.com/data/imgdata/galeries/891/25934__max_gal.jpg http://shakhtar.com/data/imgdata/galeries/891/25935__max_gal.jpg http://shakhtar.com/data/imgdata/galeries/891/25936__max_gal.jpg http://shakhtar.com/data/imgdata/galeries/891/25937__max_gal.jpg Media Centre Donbass Arena vanbasten August 18th, 2009, 06:01 PM Cascade Waterfalls are Up and Running A gorgeous four-level waterfall chain is in operation on the South part of the magnificent park surrounding Donbass Arena. The pond water is fed into the top basin by two pumps to overfill it and fall down the lower level of the waterfall. The falling water runs further into a magnificent pond which waterside has been nested by ducks, then it naturally flows into the well to be finally pumped back to the cascade basins. The water-pumps ensuring smooth operation of the cascade have been programmed to run a certain flow pattern and go on and off alternately (each of them is operated 24h day-in and day-out). Presently all waterworks and basins are operated excluding the giant fountain-ball), complementing one of the best European parks. A heart-stopping pyrotechnic performance is awaiting the locals on the Opening day, says Marco Balich, General Producer of the organizing company. “For the first time ever, we will launch “diamond-looking” fireworks because Donbass Arena is a diamond according to the design concept. We will use many versatile elements blending into a sparkling diamond in the sky above the stadium. It will be very elaborate”. The producers say the outline of the diamond will be created by the best global pyro-designer Christoph Bertono. He has produced pyrotechnical shows for the opening and closing ceremonies of the last six Olympics (except for Beijing). Mr Bertono will develop a special program for Donbass Arena. Huge canons will be mounted on the roof of the stadium to implement his concept. The fireworks will be visible from several kilometres away, specialists promise. That explains why the state-of-the-art equipment, enabling to sell a glass of beer at lowest prices during the substantially–reduced serving time, has been installed at the fast-food outlets of Donbass Arena. The equipment, manufactured by a British company Cornelius, involves a unique Ultra Flow process making it possible to fill up one half-litre glass within 4 seconds the most. For comparison let us mention that a similar procedure takes circa 30 seconds at a regular bar. By the way, this groundbreaking was successfully tested by the pacesetting peers in Britain, France, Spain, Germany and even in Australia. In terms of its processing speed – just one such beer dispenser can replace 8 regular bar installations. ‘By applying this know-how from Cornelius, we can save materially on the resources: personnel working hours, electric power, servicing and other expenditure related to beer sales’, explains Anatoliy Polkovnikov, the Head of Donbass Arena Catering Department. ‘This is of prime importance to the stadium seating 50 thousand people. Such approach will allow us to serve any client the final product of exceptional quality and value for its price. We have plans to offer beer at UAH 4-6 for a half-litre glass in the Arena. Thus, for instance, the fans to have arrived to the stadium 1-2 hours prior to the match - shall pay at the lowest rate. Moreover, it is planned that the FC Shakhtar Fan Club members, the season-ticket holders and the regular attendants will profit from a special loyalty system, involving gifts, discounts and gratis services. All in all, there are 60 such dispensers at Donbass Arena. An interesting fact is that all dispensers, while operated simultaneously and continuously, can serve 7 tons of beer to the supporters during a 15-minute half-time break. As you can see, one will not have to queue up for a glass of cold and fresh beer at all. Now you can spend the saved time to enjoy the company of your friends. Welcome to the stadium! Just a few days ago, the park surrounding the stadium was opened for the visitors and, despite the construction still on here and there, it was filled with people immediately. It is true that the unique ball remained concealed from the visitors’ eyes for some time. And now, after all the dusty operations have been accomplished in the park’s south area, the protective covering has been taken off the colossal artwork. The water started murmuring and moving the giant ball. Quite naturally, a new attraction has interested everybody and many guests hurried up to have a picture taken against the giant. ‘That’s just incredible! Such a huge ball spinning due to water pressure. I have no doubts that it will be featured on the Guinness World Records. It was a bit ridiculous, but I walked all way round the fountain as a kid, examined the artwork and even checked whether the water inside the bowl was real. I haven’t seen anything like this in my lifetime!’, Sergey, reposing in the park together with his friends, shared his impressions. Reference info: The twenty-eight ton giant was made of special granite (Tittlinger) by German craftsmen. The ball is over 2.7 metres in diameter. Grey elements on the surface are of polished granite, while black ones have a sandblast finish and are covered with acrylic coating. The ball spins under the pressure of the two water streams due to its perfectly round shape. The system is controlled by a special automated programmer. JimB August 30th, 2009, 09:57 PM vanbasten - sorry to moan but couldn't you have edited your photos just a little bit? There were so many pictures, especially on the previous page, that my computer froze for a few minutes. Very, very anoying! Unnecessary too, because so many of the pictures are very similar. Rather than posting EVERY picture that you took, couldn't you just have posted the best ones? That way, we'd all get to see this new stadium in action without getting seriously pissed off about you crashing our computers! vanbasten August 30th, 2009, 10:08 PM ^^ :dunno: no problem...
