320 special point-of-sale terminals MICROS, ensuring the shortest client-serving time, are installed throughout the arena. For instance, it takes less than 5 seconds for a fast-food team member to have the receipt printed out for a customer.

The five-star stadium is also equipped with the sophisticated system controlling stock, accounting and stock-taking, the system is called Materials Control. This picture illustrates a flaw in the design for sightlines. views from the third tier on the end at the top will be very poor. There's plenty of room in this diagram to add rows at midfield and stay well within accepted viewing distances. Stadiums like the Dragao in Porto and the new Panathinaikos stadium do a much better job of this. Even stadiums like the Allianz with a similar tier structure to Donbass has additional rows at midfield.

Compare them to final result. The stadium would had looked so much better if they covered the construction of the roof with that fabric like they planned to. Why didntthey do it? It would had looked so much better.

No. It seems the first game on Donbass Arena would be on September 27 in ukrainian premier league, Shakhtar will meet Obolon from Kyiv. On October 1 would be debut in uefa europa league, away team is serbian FK Partizan.

The Universe Model will be Featured in Arena Park

The park surrounding Donbass Arena will get even more fascinating shortly. The ground has been broken today in order to build and introduce another attraction in the south end of the greenfield area. Thus, the Rock Garden, the unique and new-to-Donetsk leisure area, will spread all over the space of 2,300 sq.m. within two months here.

Similar landscapes are just conventional elements of any Japanese park. For the Japanese people a rock garden is a part of their culture, the so-called ‘chaos in order’. According to the people of the land of the rising sun, such ‘garden’ represents the model of the Universe. The rock gardens have integrated into European landscape designing many years ago.

15 rocks of different sizes and shapes will be installed in the ‘Japanese Garden’ of Donbass Arena. Huge boulders will be carefully arranged so that a viewer will always see just 14 of them from any direction, one stone remaining ‘invisible’ all the time. Such design arrangement is an indispensable condition for making such structures. The graceful paths and an individual element simulating the dried streambed will be completely paved with stones. Of course, some benches will be placed in there for the visitors to enjoy exquisite landscaping views.

By the way, all the rock elements of the ‘garden’ can boast their natural origin. It took the garden-makers more than three months to select and assort them in the open cast mines in Kharkov, Lugansk and Donetsk Regions. The aggregate weight of the boulders exceeds 120 tons.

I like it. Yes, the interior shape is banal, but at least it has a nice seat color and doesn't have exposed concrete everywhere like JerryWorld. Still though, what's the prejudice against armrests, lol. Love the exterior.

Correct. Donbass Arena is new home for Shakhtar. On CS Shakhtar (31,718) plays Shakhtar B team and sometimes Metalurh in eurocompetitions, but someday it will be rebuilded into shakhtar academy stadium with 3-5 thousands seats under the roof (I also heard it would be a closed complex). Metalurh plays on their new stadium (5,094) so from this year they have no need to use Shakhtar or Olympiyskiy for national competitions but if they will be in main stages of UCL or late stage of UEL they definetly will need a better stadium. So RSC Olympiyskiy (26,100), ex-Shakhtar's home ground, would be used as reserve stadium for both clubs, national teams and for main athletics events, few day ago there was a great pyrotechnic show.

That's one hell of a nice stadium. Must be pretty expensive. My country should be building stadiums like that. We have a similar one its the 'Cake Tin' which is one of the national stadiums of New Zealand based in Wellington.

Yes, but that was an overall attendace, that number rather minimal attendace for home games. There would about 35,000 during national league games, 20,000 versus outsiders and full stadium against leaders I predict. As far as I know, about 11,000 already got season tickets. Also it's going to be full in Champions League and late stages of Europa League.

There average last season was a decrease from their normal averge of around 19-20,000, and shakhtar were averaging 25,000 (http://www.european-football-statistics.co.uk/attn/2000/aveukr.htm) as recently as 2002, the potential is there.

The stadium is also brand new, so you will have a boost from that. No champions league might be a boost, because the big games will now be in the league not in Europe.

Hopefully they will use their brain and only sell the lower bowl seats first!

Business Meeting with Football Action View

The Donbass Arena makes a lasting impression not only due to the top service and comfort for regular football fans, it provides special options for the executive visitors. An offer which is single in Ukraine is available in the stadium — hire of the executive boxes with the special options for comfortable watching the football matches and hosting various events in the company of your business partners and colleagues.

Altogether, there are 45 executive boxes of two categories in the stadium: 32 Standard boxes in the east stand and 13 Premium ones in the west stand. The Standard executive suite allows to accommodate 8 to 24 people at once. The floor area varies from 22 to 50 m2. The Premium boxes are 50 to 150 m2 large with the room for 20 to 24 people.

The boxes are located at level 5 boasting spectacular panoramic views of the city, the park area and, certainly, the unmatched pitch. All spaces are equipped with the most recently tailored design furniture, plasma screens, a built-in bar. There is a serving room for the staff and a balcony with cosy chairs for comfortable taking in the action.

A special parking lot is available for the executive clients (the Standard one in the north-east and the Premium one underground with a separate road accessing the stadium). The dedicated hospitality staff will meet the executive event participants at individual VIP receptions and accompany the visitors by bringing the latter all way through to respective boxes using a special lift.

The VIP customers can take advantage of placing a promotional banner featuring their company insignia in front of the executive box balcony. Moreover, the tickets for all home matches of FC Shakhtar are granted according to the number of people in a box. It is even possible to obtain the personalised tickets with the company logo thereon subject to clients’ preferences. You can order the finest cuisine from the Donbass Arena restaurants to be delivered directly into the box.

Any box can be leased for the whole season enabling the executives to attend breathtaking football matches on a regular basis, accompanied by colleagues and business partners. Such executive hospitality is a standard practice across Europe. It is convenient to hold presentations, meetings and even wedding parties in the stadium’s boxes on non-match days.

Seriously, UEFA might need a 10 STAR rating for stadiums of this caliber!

Shakhtar have great club colours. Not only is it original in the overall scheme of things, the contrast created is top notch. And thats been relayed onto the stadium. The seating colour scheme is perfect, the closeness of the pitch (pretty sure they played in those Soviet rings of death prior) and the internal environments are fantastic. Perfect capacity too, not too big, just right for a club of that stature.

Today (1st of October) Shakhtar are going to play their first Europa league match on this stadium against Partizan. Im definitely gonna watch that game!

'Diamond' will Catch Light Beautifully Reflecting all Colours of Rainbow

The Donbass Arena has another surprise in store for the supporters and the city locals. From now on, a distinctive light show to become the trademark of the Arena in Donetsk will be featured in the sky over the stadium during all football matches. Football lovers who come to watch the play of Shakhtar are not the only ones to have a chance to enjoy the show. The first Ukrainian football light show can also be seen from far distances beyond the stadium limits.

This eye-catching display is ensured by 12 spotlights of 5 KW each that have been mounted along the bowl perimeter right over the top row of spectator seats. The light-emitting devices can be rotated 360 degrees, their color sequence can be changed according to the operator’s imagination. The light beams over the roof should complement the stadium-represented sparkling diamond image according to the light show organisers.

The iridescent rays will ‘play tricks’ inside the bowl of the Donbass Arena, being an entertainment and a kind of undercard show for the public. And the number of the spotlights (12) is no coincidence since the show is meant for the fans who are ‘the 12th player’ of our team.

The light show should produce an unmatched impression both inside and outside the stadium by accentuating the special aura surrounding the 'diamond'.

After just two matches to have been held in the Donbass Arena, the jolly moles representing the team’s mascot have become very popular with all sorts of visitors, primarily the children. Even the adult supporters coming in large companies to watch football, did not miss a chance to be hugged by and have photographs taken with the outstanding characters. A team of four moles will entertain the next match visitors.

‘Our initial plan was to put one jolly mole next to each stand. Today there are three of them already: a ‘classical’ – wearing a hard hat, a ‘respectable’ – wearing tails and, a ‘stylish’ one – dressed in a t-shirt and a pair of jeans. Another mole will join the above three at the next match, he will wear a pair of shorts and a baseball cap’, Andrey Gladchenko, the Head of the Supporter Relations Department of the Donbass Arena, explained.

Besides, each mole has its own ‘responsibility area’. Everyone knows well a jolly character wearing a hard hat, who works in Zone В (at south entrance) and in the area pertaining to the family sectors. The youngest fans have already had the opportunity to take part in several contests and even to play football together with the giant mole right in front of the fast-food outlets.

The respectable mole wearing a top hat and tails, resembling a character from the cartoon featuring Little Tiny, was appointed responsible for the VIP sector. Henceforth this mole will dwell in Zone A, meeting the visitors by the west reception.

And, the other two will entertain young visitors at the north and east entrances (Zones D and C). A cutie wearing shorts and a baseball cap will meet schoolchildren, and, the trendy one wearing a pair of jeans will gladly join the students so that they can have group photos taken and keep them as mementos.

As regards the dolls themselves – the first two were tailored for the Donbass Arena in Kharkiv and, the other two have been finely crafted in Donetsk.

In fact, the job of the vastly experienced animators, who hide under the mascot overalls, is not that easy regardless of the supporters’ general recognition. One must admit that it is not so easy to run around the stadium when dressed in the garment made of foam rubber and fun fur weighing together over 15kg, not mentioning the on-demand pictures taken with anyone who just wants to have one!

Nevertheless, the guys do love their work because you can get endless positive feelings from communication with football fans just here, in the Donbass Arena.

New Record-Setting Benchmark

Before now the 50,000 capacity was mentioned in the official documents and various materials describing the Donbass Arena. This figure was the bottom design capacity meant for the future arena. After the site commissioning by ENKA, the prime construction contractor, the data required certain updating quite naturally.

To finally adjust the arena capacity they have excluded a portion of seats (which were subject to removal due to arranging football TV broadcasts, fencing installations or for other technical reasons) from the total seating capacity.

The final count has shown that the total number of seats in the stadium is 51,504. This is the figure to be fixed as the official seat capacity of the Donbass Arena. It is necessary to point out that only 51,172 seats are for sale: general seats for spectators (47,171), VIP seats (3,133), the seats in the executive boxes (868).

The total of the seats for the press (brought down to 144) and of those for the people with disabilities and their carers (188) at level 3 constitute the difference between the number of seats for sale and the full capacity.

Such seating distribution in the stadium is intended for hosting the matches of the Ukrainian Premier League, the Ukrainian Cup and the UEFA Europa League. The quantitative distribution of spectator seats will change for the EURO 2012 matches: the Media Zone will expand and, the number of the seats for sale will be decreased (50,000).

The only thing left to remind of is that the matches to have set the attendance records have already been held at the Donbass Arena. The opening match hosting Kiev-based Obolon’ was attended by 42,800 visitors on 27 September which is the record quantity for the current season Premier League. The first UEFA Europa League match of Shakhtar against Partizan (Serbia) on 1 October also entered the squad’s history as the most attended home match of the ‘miners’ within European Cup tournaments. 49,480 spectators crowded the arena back then to tacitly become the attendance record for the Donbass Arena. Even more breathtaking matches will take place there soon, and, we are hopeful that another attendance record will be established shortly.

Today it has become known that the Donbass Arena will be the hosting venue for the play-off match Ukraine v Greece (to decide who qualifies for the 2010 World Cup).

Olexiy Mykhailychenko, the head coach of the Ukrainian national football team, and Volodymyr Lashkul, the vice president of the Federation of Football of Ukraine, have communicated the above decision at the official press conference.

The match will take place on 18 November. 20:00 is the kickoff time.

The Smart Stadium concept implemented at the Donbass Arena has won a prestigious award. The first Elite stadium in Eastern Europe has been acknowledged as being the ‘Sporting Venue of the Future’.

Let us remind that the design of the stadum’s IT infrastructure was developed jointly with the professional service division of Cisco. The premier partner of Cisco – the company DonbassInformSvyaz’Servis – acted as the project integrator. The following features have been noted amongst other unique solutions applied at the Donbass Arena: the high performance computer network running all the IT systems, the unified communications system, the contact centre, the protected DPC and the second generation WiFi equipment ensuring the high speed internet access in the bowl and throughout the inside space.

Very good stadium ... quite modern and ideally large. I hate it when cities with no need for a stadium end up building 80,000 capacity stadiums. 50,000 is a good target in my opinion.

It was just a ticket price story. The single ticket for this game cost more than season ticket for all Shakhtar games in league and cup for the same stadium segment.

According to him (or the plans he have):
Capacity is 51,640, but only 50,105 will be sold, because 1,535 have got a c value of under 90 (which is actually not a big problem :). )

Fact Shakhtar Donetsk is owned by one of the wealthiest individuals in Eastern Europe.
Fact this individual, (not revenue earned by the club) bank rolls the entire operation, new stadium, training centre, wage bill of expensive imports etc etc.
Shakhtar as with almost every other Elite professional football clubs in Europe operates at an annual loss.
Fact no amount of extra events on the pitch or at the stadium will balance this defecit when more than 70% above income is spent on salary, as with as mentioned almost every other club in Europe.
It is simple mathematics you cannot spend more than you earn in order to make profit, like 2 + 2 =4, minus 6 = minus 2. But some people still didn't figure that out yet...

There is a complete irony to this photograph that some people may not realise. We have a tree in the foreground in a harsh Ukranian winter, snow on the ground, completely bare its branches reaching into the glow of the sky... the glow is actually created by the artificial lighting units on the pitch of the stadium designed to assist growth particularly in winter. The tree is straining into the light an amazing picture..however the irony is neither the tree or the grass are growing:goodnight

Since we are doing the tourism/promotion thing in a few posts here is my contribution-
For anyone considering going to Donetsk if your team is there in 2 years time or before playing Shakhtar or if you simply want to go here is a fair assesment of the place from an outside point of view.

It is true to say the stadium is the standout highlight of the city, truly one of the most well thought out and designed new club stadiums in Europe if not the world at the moment. Visit it or regret it it is a must see and even more amazing in real life than the pics on this forum.

There is not much else to the city for foreign visitors, yes fellow eastern europeans would find some things interesting but in general this a a heavily industrial mining city in a not very interesting geographical location for people from outside former Russian states. And as such has never had an influx of foreign visitors from western europe, most all visitors are business persons aqnd the ambience reflects that, for example try buying a postcard in Donetsk (not stadium ones before you say it) from a regular shop, they dont have any and absolutely no-one speaks anything other than Russian so its difficult to do anything without a guide.

Having said that you can absolutely spend a day and a night there without problem based around a football game and have things to do, like drink alcohol, but this is not Kiev and the part of the city that lends itself to foreign visitors is very limited and centred around the Donbass palace hotel.

Also try the victoria hotel spa if you have a spare couple of hours to relax especially if its winter, get the treatment where they beat the crap out of you :bash:with what can only be described as a tree branch dipped in tea-i can honestly say at the time you are thinking what the hell is happening and why did i sign up for this but you feel amazing afterwards like so fresh you could run a marathon-still dont know what it was but it was good!

If stunning women is your thing you might not want to leave because this city is full of them for such a relatively small city, must be something in the water!

One other thing for people who have never been to Russian countries/former states go into a supermarket even a small one and even if you dont need to buy anything- check out the alley that sells only vodka, its as big as the fruit and veg section if not bigger in every market and like i said it only sells vodka, all other beers and spirits have a seperate section which is nowhere near as big!:nuts::cheers:

Since we are doing the tourism/promotion thing in a few posts here is my contribution-
For anyone considering going to Donetsk if your team is there in 2 years time or before playing Shakhtar or if you simply want to go here is a fair assesment of the place from an outside point of view.

It is true to say the stadium is the standout highlight of the city, truly one of the most well thought out and designed new club stadiums in Europe if not the world at the moment. Visit it or regret it it is a must see and even more amazing in real life than the pics on this forum.

There is not much else to the city for foreign visitors, yes fellow eastern europeans would find some things interesting but in general this a a heavily industrial mining city in a not very interesting geographical location for people from outside former Russian states. And as such has never had an influx of foreign visitors from western europe, most all visitors are business persons aqnd the ambience reflects that, for example try buying a postcard in Donetsk (not stadium ones before you say it) from a regular shop, they dont have any and absolutely no-one speaks anything other than Russian so its difficult to do anything without a guide.

Having said that you can absolutely spend a day and a night there without problem based around a football game and have things to do, like drink alcohol, but this is not Kiev and the part of the city that lends itself to foreign visitors is very limited and centred around the Donbass palace hotel.
