Jamandell (d69) February 3rd, 2007, 06:19 PM Wow, great thread! I was unaware of a lot of these projects (I tend not to go outside the London forum) but this has been very informative! The future is certainly very bright, and I look forward to seeing all these towers start construction!
wjfox February 3rd, 2007, 06:30 PM Arsehole. this was my idea for a thread... and you know it.
Newcastle Guy February 3rd, 2007, 06:34 PM Well just call me the thread thief;)
I did something like this a while ago, butI had no pictures just tower names, cities and heights. I used Will's London Summary as a template.
wjfox February 3rd, 2007, 06:37 PM Well, could you at least separate the projects by 4-5 lines... they're a bit close together.
hcrosskey February 3rd, 2007, 07:17 PM Very good post but you fogot to add the West Pier Tower.. its 150m and is approved..
http://www.brighton-hove.gov.uk/index.cfm?request=c1158923
http://www.westpier.co.uk/i360.html
Newcastle Guy February 3rd, 2007, 10:24 PM Right I'm just about finished. There is alot more than I thought!
Marky_boy February 3rd, 2007, 11:15 PM City Spires in Newport is probably going to be 100m.
http://city.newport.net/
Orgoglioso February 4th, 2007, 01:03 AM There's the newly approved Plaza for Leeds which is about 100m as well
large February 4th, 2007, 09:45 AM Brighton is punching above its weight. Looks to be number five after Birmingham, Manchester, Liverpool and Leeds in terms of number and scale of proposals. However, the reality will be very different, the council has been too slow in approving new projects, and the Tories will gain control this spring which will stop all tower construction for a decade.
Newcastle Guy February 4th, 2007, 11:26 AM There's the newly approved Plaza for Leeds which is about 100m as well
Thats only 99m according to SSN. I'm only adding things 100m and over, sorry.
SimLim February 14th, 2007, 05:30 PM Alpha tower at 100m.
Newcastle Guy February 14th, 2007, 06:00 PM Added. Can't believe I forgot about that one
gothicform February 14th, 2007, 09:17 PM vast thread mostly assembled from stuff at ssn and you wouldnt know it. methinks some sourcing is needed.
Tark February 15th, 2007, 03:52 PM Very useful thread NG. Having gone to all this work so far and knowing your source material as you do, what's the chances of adding the architect and developer of each tower to your 5 line summaries? Then it would be very INFORMATIVE as well as useful! Cheers, so far,
Newcastle Guy February 16th, 2007, 03:27 PM vast thread mostly assembled from stuff at ssn and you wouldnt know it. methinks some sourcing is needed.
Ooh sorry Gothic I wasn't thinking. I'll add sources to it:)
Newcastle Guy February 16th, 2007, 03:41 PM Very useful thread NG. Having gone to all this work so far and knowing your source material as you do, what's the chances of adding the architect and developer of each tower to your 5 line summaries? Then it would be very INFORMATIVE as well as useful! Cheers, so far,
Will do:)
Biosonic February 19th, 2007, 01:23 PM Thanks NG
T0M February 19th, 2007, 02:20 PM Excellent informative thread Newcastle Guy, although you realise you've opened a whole can of worms here!
Brighton really does seem to have some excellent stuff in the pipeline, can't wait to see it rise.. but since you're adding observation towers over 100m then you should add the St John's tower in Liverpool... http://www.skyscrapernews.com/buildings.php?id=370
Biosonic February 19th, 2007, 02:31 PM And I reckon we should have Chamberlain Clock Tower (100m) and BT Tower (154m?) :)
Tark February 20th, 2007, 04:22 PM Will do:)
Cheers for doing the first ten or so. Very helpful. Will the arch's and developers of the others follow?
Newcastle Guy February 20th, 2007, 06:19 PM Yep. Sorry I started but I got a bit side tracked. I'll do some more now.
Gherkin February 22nd, 2007, 10:02 AM Well, could you at least separate the projects by 4-5 lines... they're a bit close together.
lol
To Newcastle Guy: Could you do another one city by city? And is this in the World Forums yet?
Newcastle Guy February 22nd, 2007, 05:10 PM I'll put in the world forum. Also I'll write out some city lists too to compare.

Just to note the latest thinking on AST in Brum is 170m, and HCT is 122m not 130m :)
Oh, and we have another one now - the replacement for Natwest Tower (office) is rumoured to be 100m. :cheers1:
Newcastle Guy February 23rd, 2007, 04:44 PM I'll change AST then, but is Hollaway circus not 130m to spire? I count all of them to spire just like with Beetham Manchester.
I'll add the Natwest towers replacement once we have proper confirmation and renders
Lost Faith March 12th, 2007, 09:44 PM What a fantastic thread.
There are some really futuristic and well designed projects ongoing or in the pipeline.
Even Leicester has a 39 story Ian Simpson building with planning permission.
elfabyanos May 5th, 2007, 07:18 PM Hats off Newcastle Guy!!! London does seem to have the focus of my attention, but this thread really makes the point that there is a lot going on throughout the whole country. Come ten years time, anyone coming to any major UK city will be presented with a 'scraper skyline!
Gherkin May 8th, 2007, 05:11 PM ^^ London's skyscrapers are no match for the rest of the U.K's current skyscrapers if they were all put together.
London: (not mine)

:D
Newcastle Guy May 8th, 2007, 05:35 PM I personally thing La Lumiere will set a new standard for UK skyscrapers because, IMO, outside London there ain't much quality in towers over 100m that are built. Lumiere should change that.
MarkBton June 1st, 2007, 12:51 PM Excellent to see all the UK projects in one place Newcastle Guy. Ruth Kelly threw out the New England Square Tower in Brighton a couple of weeks ago so there is no chance of that one getting built.
Newcastle Guy June 1st, 2007, 01:18 PM I've deleted it and marked Lumiere as U/C:)
Custer.Murphy June 9th, 2007, 03:45 PM Great thread! I'm a Londoner but have recently been to both Leeds and Manchester and it's great to see so much energy going into these cities too!
It's certainly made me browse the other UK regional forums!
Orgoglioso June 9th, 2007, 04:16 PM I think you can safely add the Unite plaza as well now to the list for Leeds with reports that it will be 103m, also as its 30m higher up the hill from Bridgewater, it will appear 20m higher than it.
Dubai Freak June 24th, 2007, 11:40 AM Interesting full page article in Saturdays 'Daily Mirror' newspaper.

Flogging Molly July 9th, 2007, 10:37 AM TOWER SOARS TO 30 FLOORS

MATT FLEMING HERALD REPORTER
06:50 - 09 July 2007
Plans for one of Plymouth's biggest buildings have taken another step forward with the announcement that it will be even taller. The massive £75 million Oceanique tower project at Derry's Cross was to have been 24 floors high, but it will now rise to 30 floors.
A detailed planning application has been submitted to Plymouth City Council showing how the skyscraper will become "more elegant and slender" with the extra floors. The building, which was to be 85m high, will now tower more than 100m - over 330ft - into the air.
Bob McDonald, director of the Architects Design Group, which has been involved in the project, said: "The detailed plans represent the development and refinement of the original outline approval, retaining the same proposals of a new public boulevard with restaurants, cafes and bars - all linked with a proposed four-star hotel, office accommodation and the original number of 172 apartments.
"The concept for the tower has remained the same as that granted under the outline approval, with a developed and refined design form.
"A significant part of the newly developed proposals centres around the design of the hotel and office building and ensuring the public spaces exemplify the aspirations of the city as seen in the recent Millbay Boulevard design proposals."
Mr McDonald said the extra floors which will be built - if the detailed plans are given the nod by the city council over the next couple of months - will make the skyscraper look "more slim, slender and elegant".
He said: "We have been working hard to provide lots more detail for the tower in these plans, and we are very pleased with the outcome."
The project was sold by Trathen Estates to Falmouth-based developer Devington Homes for an undisclosed sum last year.
Lawrence Butler, Devington's managing director, said: "Everyone who has seen the plans seems to be behind them, which we're delighted about.
"It has been a fantastic experience seeing these plans come together, and we are now looking at hopefully starting the development next June. We would then hope to see the project finished within three years' time.
"It is a very exciting project and is one of the most important developments in Plymouth."
Mr Butler said he hoped Ardmore Construction would carry out the work.
The site was well known as the headquarters for Television South West. 73 rooms, totalling nearly 21,528 sq ft on four floors, are immediately available at rents from £5 per sq ft, with accommodation and lease terms flexible.
The accommodation comprises 21 Derry's Cross and 19 The Crescent, and has ample parking.
As well as sales area and staff welfare facilities, it has a number of storage rooms which have been used for archiving of material for several businesses which have occupied the premises since TSW vacated in the early 1990s.
Flogging Molly August 1st, 2007, 04:16 PM ^^
Its been approved today so the UK has another city breaking the 100m barrier
Marky_boy August 2nd, 2007, 12:45 AM I think that's 18 cities now.
wjfox August 8th, 2007, 02:29 PM Well done for keeping the summary updated, Newcastle Guy - impressive work.
Newcastle Guy August 8th, 2007, 05:39 PM Thanks:) I think it is a bit behind though. It's quite hard to keep up with all the UK projects.
Flogging Molly October 8th, 2007, 07:50 PM Joy's of joys. another well above 100m tower revealed for Brum.
Thats 3 office towers breaking the barrier with more to come I should expect.

Gherkin November 15th, 2007, 01:49 AM I like discovering new stuff when browsing this thread :) The "your city's latest highrise proposals" thread is a useful tool too so make sure you keep checking there too: http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?t=525420
