REGINA, Saskatchewan, Canada

50°26'10"N, 104°37'05"W

Population 199,000
Established in 1882

Here's a rehash of the same thread posted in the Cityscapes and Skyline photos section, with content and information obvious to Canadians deleted.

What can I say, I was impressed with Regina. For a city just slightly under 200k, the downtown blew me away. Very pretty place, with wonderful tree-lined streets. I've always liked Saskatchewan (was here before in 1992 or 93?), but I missed Regina last time I was here.

Enjoy!

Few people know that Sir John A. Macdonald played a bitchin' air guitar. I knew he was a terrible drunk, but now he's cool!

I've never seen Corner Gas, but I was in Regina once.

I responded to your other thread, but, I figured I'd post here too.

Glad you enjoyed your time here. I encourage you to visit again during the summer, as it is more bearable (weather wise) then.

If you have an questions, feel free to send me a message.

^ Thanks for the comments and photos in the other thread.

Funny enough, today I had the afternoon off, so I went back down to Rouleau, then over to Moose Jaw. Then I drove up to Buffalo Pound PP (which I suspect is where I camped when I first came though Sask.). Wow, was I glad I went up there.... absolutely beautiful. I then headed northeast up to Hwy 11, and drove up 20 north of Lumsden. I came back to Regina feeling pretty damn contented. I wouldn't complain if I wound up living in that valley.

So I didn't plan to go to the Qu'Appelle valley, it just sort of happened. But thanks for the advice!

Lumsden is a pretty neat town. Not sure if you had the chance to keep going past Lumsden? Your next town in the valley is Craven. Perhaps you've heard of the Craven Jamboree? Craven is situated near one of the lakes, Last Mountain Lake. Beautiful place for a Regina resident to have a cabin for the summer. Affordable too!

If you head east of Regina, you'll find yourself in the Qu'Appelle Valley again. (It's a big valley!) There you'll come across Fort Qu'Appelle which is a small town near four lakes.

Did you get a chance to see the tunnels in Moose Jaw?

When do you head back?

Yeah, I drove through Craven and went up a mile or two west before turning around. Never heard of the jamboree.

I skipped the tunnels... I was more interested in getting around the countryside. I head back tomorrow, but it's quite possible that I'll be back.

Are you from that area originally?

Well I'm glad to hear that you had a good trip. I truly encourage you to try and see the province during the summer. As I'm sure you know, they are hot and humid. They pretty much make up for the harsh winters. If you do come back in warmer weather, I can hopefully suggest some neat places to visit not only in Regina (start with Wascana Park) but also in the Regina area.

i.e. Big Muddy Badlands

And lastly, tell your friends back home that Regina/Saskatchewan isn't so bad! I think a lot of people have a false perception of Regina/Saskatchewan and they've never even been here!

Nope. I'm guessing you're wondering why I was there; it was a business trip.

I have... I drove through Saskatchewan in the summer of 1992 or 93, which was how I got my first positive impression of the province. I stayed at Buffalo Pound PP, which I accidentaly visited this time around as well. Very beautiful. Glad I could experience it in two different seasons.
