You are to blame February 13th, 2007, 04:22 AM I am somewhat diappointed with the apperance of Douala for being the commercial heart of Cameroon.
StormShadow February 13th, 2007, 04:28 AM Some areas of this city looks good in my book I gather. More to come, we have seen little of this city, I'm sure it has more to show us.

Matthias Offodile February 13th, 2007, 12:27 PM General Notice
Stormshadow, nice new thread on Douala but there already exists a thread that has been dedicated to Cameroon. Let´s first add new pics into existing threads instead of creating numerous new ones.:) Most of the pics that we see here already exist in that older thread.
Existing Cameroon thread:

Matthias Offodile February 13th, 2007, 09:51 PM Douala disenchants me somehow given that this was once a pretty promising country in Africa back in the (early) 80´s. Douala looks utterly neglected in some areas, others are Ok. The city is not that big and some pots of paint doesn´t really cost a hell lot of money!
But what surprises me is the number of good cars that are visible at least in some of the pics.
Matthias Offodile February 13th, 2007, 10:14 PM What always amazed me about Cameroon is its bilingual aspect; the country is split between an English-speaking and a French-speaking part. Nevertheless Cameroonians have a strong attachment to Germany, even the younger people like Germany a lot. There is a stong Cameroonian community in Germany and some good restaurants. (Their food is really nice.) Futhermore, there are thousands of Cameroonian students studying at German universities. :)

StormShadow February 13th, 2007, 10:46 PM Matt, I didn't know. I gather this thread should stay since it's exclusively for Douala now.
a_bondima February 15th, 2007, 05:22 PM The cities deterioration started after the civil strikes in the early 90s known as "ville morte". The city operating budget were cut by the government as a way to punish the city because the city was controlled by the opposition party. Although the vast majority of the economic activities in Cameroon occurs in the city, the city receives a disproportional small amount of investment from the government, especially when compared to Yaoundé. Almost all the cities services and infrastructure were neglected throughout the nineties, only recently have they started to repair the roads.
I am sickened when I see the state of Douala when compared to other African cities as seen in this forum.

Carver02 May 16th, 2007, 07:56 AM Douala has a number of nice looking buildings, and many building that would look nice after refurbishment. Properly rehabilitating the sidewalks, roads, and improving the greenery would go a long way. It should also be mandated that the sides of buildings be clean and (somewhat) freshly painted - at least if you own a building in the CBD.

You are to blame January 30th, 2008, 03:48 PM The city looks so much nicer in the last few pics. Is their alot of construction going on in the city?
kuartetoklash February 2nd, 2008, 07:42 AM Very interesting, I like to know African Cities.
And I think Douala is not so ugly. If you look at certain cities here in Argentina, a country which economically is at a much higher level, there is little difference. It reminded me a bit of Bolivia, which too is higher developed then CMR. Although... I've still not seen pics of true "slum" areas of Douala,,,
Saludos from Córdoba, Argentina!

Mulema March 4th, 2008, 09:59 PM I will seriously like you guys to stop posting pictures of Cameroon. I am cameroonian and I hate seeing my country's conditions meanwhile other aricans cities are going up but we are just going down, down, down. I sometimes am ashamed to say I am cameroonian. The whole country looks like one big village. All the goverment does is eat maney instead o investing in our cities. If Ahidjo was still in power, Cameroon would have been very much advanced today. Douala and Yaounde are the worst cities in Africa. What a shame
Mulema March 4th, 2008, 10:09 PM Believe me when I say Douala was a very beautiful city in the 80's but when Paul Biya took over, the country just went down. We have a lot o money for investment in Cameroon but the government eats all the money. I am just waiting or him to leave, As cameroonians, we are tired of living in these situations. Up till today, the roads in Douala ARE VERY BAD. The government does not care. AS CAMEROONIANS, WE KNOW WHAT OUR CITIES LOOK LIKE YOU DON'T NEED TO SHOW THIS TO THE WHOLE WORLD. THIS IS ENOUGH EMBARRASMENT FOR ME SO I WILL LIKE YOU GUYS TO STOP POSTINGS ANY PICTURES Of CAMEROON. THANK YOU. NO CAMERONIAN WILL BE HAPPY TO SEE PICTURES OF CAMEROON IN THIS STATE AND PLUS YOU ARE SHOWING IT TO THE WHOLE. WORLD. CAMEROONIANS ARE AWARE OF THIS, NO NEED TO POST PICTURES LIKE THIS BECAUSE WE BECOME VERY SENSITIVE. THANK YOU
Mulema March 4th, 2008, 10:17 PM Douala is a mess the place looks like a village

Wow!! I am speechless.
Mulema March 5th, 2008, 06:45 AM Matthias Offodile we don't need you to post picturs of Cameroon okay? Post and mind the business in your own country. Gosh every here I go, I always meest your post please stop postings pics of Cameroon. Thank you
Matthias Offodile March 6th, 2008, 10:32 AM Mulema, your message is hard and clear, I understood it.
I won´t post any pics about your country any more.
It was not my intention to harm you with any of my pictures for I am not looking for bad pics. I just thought that Cameroon is an important country within Africa that should not be forgotten when we show African countries.:)
I can´t see any insult with that?:ohno:
But if it puts your mind at rest, I will refrain from posting pics in your country´s thread (this will save time to look for recent Cameroon pics for me as well), but one last of word of advice please also tell it to the other memebers because I have not been the only one that contributed to - in your eyes "littered" - the Douala thread.
PS: Mulema´s reaction is for me is a perfect piece of evidence that panafricanism will NEVER EVER work. Other Africans come here to show other countries than their own to the outside world - something that should be greeted - but in the eye´s of some people this comes close to a "capital punishment"! Sad but true:ohno:

I read some where that you're from Nigeria, and I am sure you are proud of the construction and investment going on there. But when me, a cameroonian sees pictures at the state at which our government is corrupt, it gives me ANGER.The country is messed up and when you show these kind of pictures it makes me become so sensitive. Any cameroonin will feel thesame. We have never had any serious civil war for our cities to look like villages. The government eats all our money instead on investing in it. Foreigners don't wanna invest in Cameroon because at the sTate oF how corrupt the country is. Our president is called Paul Biya, and the idiot has been in power for 25 bad years. HE HAS NOT BUILT A SINGLE BUILDING SINCE HE TOOK POWER. HE HAS NOT BUILT OR FIXED ROADS. SO, there is no pride in seeing pictures like when other african countries are going up meanwhile cameroonians are leFt behind. We don't need to see these pictures what we need is a new government that will BUILD AND INVEST IN OUR CITIES SO AS TO REDUCE UNEMPLOYMENT. We have so much money and materials to build our cities but the government is so wicked that she doesn't care. Therer is no pride for cameroon. The country is just a mess. See how dirty and poluted Douala is, and see our capital, Yaounde, looks like a village.
It is good that you guys post pictures from other countries and not only yours but you should try and understand that when someone's country looks as bad as mine, it is better you don't post pictures of that country because its people will be emotionally hurt. I will never be happy to see those pictures it reminds me o how greedy our government is.
Next time, try to concentrate on countries with good development because people from countries like mine, shall be pissed off when they see thier country's low development. (I know i will never do that because i know what it feels like)

BONDIMA
you stupid idiot no one is bitching here. If you wanna post pictures of other countries why don't you post pictures of countries that are developing. What the fuck it seems like faggy ass is obssed with Cameroon. You wanna post pics and laugh at the country or compare it to other countries ?. It seems like you are cameroonian then if you are you may be one of those francofools who thinks Biya is doing a good job. If not, you may be one deranged and obesssed fag who wants to see how bad my country is.
From what I posted to Matthias, it seems like your low IQ didn't consume the idea of the knowledge.
Your stupid mind obviously does not get it. It is not ABOUT SHAME IT IS ABOUT ANGER AS TO HOW MY COUNTRY HAS GONE DOWN TO LOOK LIKE. WHEN I SEE THESE PICTURES IT BRINGS BACK ANGER TOWARDS THE GOVERNMENT. THEY MAKE EMPTY PROMISES ABOUT DEVELOPING THE COUNTRY BUT YET NOTHING HAPPENS. ETO'O EVEN SAID HE WAS TIRED TO SEE THE SITUATION IN CAMEROON. ETO'O IS CONCERNED ABOUT OUR DEVELOPMENT AND HE SAID HE BETTER PRFERES TNOT TO SEE PICTURES OF CAMEROON IN THIS Situation, AND WILL PREFER SEEING CAMEROON WHEN IT IS DEVELOPING
SO WHEN YOUR IDIOTIC ASS POST PICS ABOUT THE COUNTRY WITHOUT HAVING A SINGLE CLUE AS TO WHAT PEOPLE FROM THE COUNTRY VIEW THAT COUNTRY, YOU LOOK MORE FOOLISH.
I know you did this just to irritate me. But you low brain fails to understand ME IN that, I am at anger towards the situation at which my people are SUFFEREING IN CAMEROON. ALMOST 99% OF CAMEROONIANS IN CAMEROON WANNA settle OUT OF cameroon BUT THEY DON'T HAVE THE MEANS TO.
POSTING PICTURES LIKE THES E JUST BRINGS BACK MY SENSITIVITY ON THE SUFFERENING, POVERTY AND CORRUPTION GOING ON IN THE COUNTRY.
THE GOVERNMENT DOES NOT CARE FOR ITS PEOPLE BY STEALING ALOT OF THE FINANCES. THIS IS FINANCE THAT THE STUPID GOVERNMENT WOULD HAVE USED TO INVEST IN BUSINESSES, BY BUILDING BUILDINGS SO AS TO REDUCE UNEMPLOYMENT BUT THE GOVERNMENT DOES NOT CARE.
CAMEROON USED TO BE A VERY BEAUTIFUL COUNTRY DURING AHMADOU AHIDJO'S REGIME BUT RIGHT NOW, PEOPLE SUFFER A LOT. THEY LIVE IN LESS THAN A DOLLAR A DAY MEABWHIE DURING AHIDJO'S REGIME IT WAS DIFFERENT
SEEING THESE PICTURES DOESN'T MAKE ME NOSTALGIC BUT BURNS ME WITH ANGER.
BEFORE YOU POST PICTURES YOU HAVE TO KNOW THE SITUATION AT WHICH ITS PEOPLE PERCEIVE THE GOVERMENT.
I FEEL LIKE I AM POSTING TO A KID BUT I HOPE THIS CLARIFIES YOUR LITTLE BRAIN.

Mulema March 7th, 2008, 07:07 PM BONDIMA AND IF YOU ARE CAMEROONIAN(YOUR NAME SOUNDS DOUALA), THEN YOU ARE ONE OF THOSE STUPID FRANCO-FROGS. CAMEROON IS FILLED WITHN STUPID AND GREEDY PEOPLE AND THE FRANCO-FOOLS MAKE UP THE HIGHEST MAJORITY OF THE MOST STUPID CAMEROONIANS.
I CANNOT WAIT FOR ENGLISH-CAMEROON TO DIVIDE ITSELF FROM FRENCH-CAMEROON. SO THAT WE THE ANGLO-CAMEROONIANS CAN BECOME INDEPENDENT AND START TAKING CARE OF OUR COUNTRY, (AMBAZONIA)
FRANCOPHONE-CAMEROONIANS ARE THE MOST IGNORANTS AND MOST STUPID PEOPLE WE HAVE IN CAMEROON.
GOD BLESS THE ANGLOPHONES-CAMEROONIANS
a_bondima March 12th, 2008, 11:38 PM Mulema, you sound very angry and confused. I regret even responding to you, since i am not expecting any rational response.
Mulema March 13th, 2008, 05:25 AM Mulema, you sound very angry and confused. I regret even responding to you, since i am not expecting any rational response.
Oh yeah, we the anglophone cameroonians, are dividing ourselves from francophone cameroonians. We shall no longer be in Cameroon. We already have out own president and ministers, and we have taken this issue to international levels.
LONG LIVE ANGLOPHONE-CAMEROONIANS OR AMBAZONIANS SINCE WE ARE NOT CAMEROONIANS BUT AMBAZONIANS
Mulema March 13th, 2008, 05:46 AM and guess what Mr bondima, we the people from the country of ambazonia (southern cameroons) have taken your president up to face the court in Rome.Your country is a mess
Cameroon is africa's hell:ohno:
Jakes1 March 13th, 2008, 10:47 AM Mon Dieu! Je pense que Mulema est mal au tete. And I can hardly speak french (which is probably evident from my post)
Matthias Offodile March 13th, 2008, 01:55 PM people like Mulema should be dealt with easily, it sounds hard but the only language people like him understand ...re-open the gas chambers and finish!
Mulema March 13th, 2008, 09:03 PM So is it NOW THAT PRESIDENT PAUL BIYA WANTS TO DEVELOP CAMEROON. IT IS TOO LATE ALREADY. THE IDIOT HAS BEEN IN POWER FOR 25 BAD YEARS AND NOW HE WANTS TO DEVELOP THE COUNTRY. IS THE FOOL AFRAID OF A POSSIBLE "COUP D'ETAT"?
DID THE VIOLENCE IN THE PAST FEW DAYS IN DOUALA, BAMNEDA, YAOUNDE, AND BUEA SCARE HIM?
AFTER 40 PEOPLE DIED FROM THAT VIOLENCE, IT IS NOW THAT PAUL BIYA IS OPENING HIS EYES TO DEVELOP CAMEROON ? IT IS TOO LATE
NOW THE IDIOT WANTS TO BUILD COMMERCIAL BUILDINGS AND SHOPPING CENTERS IN CAMEROON. WHY THIS LATE?
NOW THE IDIOT HAS INCREASED WORKERS SALARIES BY 15% PERCENTAGE ? WHY THIS LATE
NOW THE IDIOT WNAT TO REDUCE UNEMPLYMENT BY BUILDING COMMERCIAL BUILDINGS AND INDUSTRALIZING THE COUNTRY. WHY THIS LATE?
NOW THE IDIOT WANTS TO DIMINISH POVERTY BY JAILING CORRUPT PEOPLE , WHY THIS LATE?
NOW THE IDIOT WANTS TO BUILD NEW AIRPORTS AND FOOTBALL STADIUMS IN CCAMEROON, WHY THIS LATE?
NOW THE IDIOT WANTS TO BUILD ROADS AND HIGHWAYS FOR THE COUNTRY, WHY THIS LATE?
NOW THE IDIOT WANTS TO GIVE OUT PENSION WHICH BELONG TO THE RIGHT PEOPLE, WHY THIS LATE?
NOW THE IDIOT WANTS TO GIVE OUT SCHOLARSHIPS TO STUDENTS, WHY THIS LATE?
NOW HE WANTS TO UTILIZE THE PORT IN DOUALA, WHY THIS LATE?
NOW THE IDIOT WANTS TO MODERNISE CAMEROON'S CITIES, WHY THIS LATE?
NOW THE IDIOT WANTS TO PROTECT HISTORICAL TREASURES AND BUILDINGS , WHY THIS LATE?
THESE ARE JUST SOME OF THE THINGS THAT CAMEROONIANS HAVE BEEN PRAYING AND HOPING FOR. DOES HE THINK THAT DOING ALL THESE THINGS WILL MAKE HIM RUN ANOTHER TERM IN POWER?
COME 2011, WE SHALL EXILE PAUL BIYA OUT OF THE COUNTRY.
NOW THE IDIOT WANTS MORE FOREIGN INVESTMENT IN CAMERON WHY THIS LATE?
HE IS THE WORLD'S WORST PRESIDENT. THE IDIOT THINKS THAT DOING ALL THESE THINGS WILL PERMIT HIS TO SERVE ANOTHER TERM.
IT IS 2 LATE LATE FOR HIM TO START DOING ALL THESE PROJECTS. CAMEROONIANS HAVE BEEN CRYING FOR THE DAY THEY WOULDN'T FEEL IN HELL
WHY THIS LATE ? BECAUSE ..............................................:ohno::ohno::ohno:
Matthias Offodile March 14th, 2008, 01:42 AM lame duck go home!!! go home, has mommy fogotten to give you the naps?? Look the mess that you have created all over the forum? OKPOH!!
Jakes1 March 14th, 2008, 01:18 PM Mulema, this is a PHOTO forum... we understand that amazohagians (sic) can't read. But thought we'd help you. Gosh, with 13% of the world's oil I thought you would have more interesting things to do!
FM 2258 May 15th, 2008, 11:58 PM I would love to see more pictures of Douala. The place looks like a mess but it still looks exciting. It's interesting to see that gasoline was about $3.17/gallon back in December.
http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2278/2046029535_a2abc67d77_b.jpg
Also Douala to New York seems not so bad for $1460 but it would be nice if it were cheaper. Looking through the pictures the city looks relatively safe but I'm not too sure.

GREAT STUFF from cameroun. there is one thing though, the whole interchange doesnt make sense the way it works. maybe some civil engineer should enlighten me on how the interchange works.
a_bondima June 13th, 2008, 09:55 AM I am not a civil engineer, but it looks to me like they somehow combined a roundabout with an interchange.
CroissantLBV July 7th, 2008, 10:35 PM My heart is bleeding when I look at this city. My home town. Quelle misère!!:ohno:
Paul Biya ruined Cameroon which was one of Africa´s most properous countries when Cameroon's first president, Ahmadou Ahidjo, Cameroon´s other autocrat but a good one, stepped down. A.Ahidjo build so many things in Cameroon and invested a lot of money into infrastructure and soical services (.this is why Cameroon today has one of the highest literacy rates in Africa. ), all of which is left to rot away under Paul Biya ..

musiccity January 16th, 2011, 07:17 AM Tell me if I'm wrong, but it seems to me like its a smaller version of Lagos, modern and gleaming in areas and wild and disorginized in other areas. Lagos I know is becoming an African powerhouse and maybe Douala is going down the same successful path but I'm a bit more ignorant about Douala than I am about Lagos. Maybe Douala might get some kind of Eko Atlantic City in its future.
musiccity January 16th, 2011, 07:19 AM Are there any large shopping malls in Douala like there are in Lagos or Accra?
musiccity January 16th, 2011, 07:31 AM I researched some into Douala, and it is the wealthiest city in the central african economic region. I think this city could get quite a bit of future investment but it seems to me like its overshadowed by Lagos.

NYConscious January 17th, 2011, 02:16 AM What's with the hate on Douala? It looks like a diamond in the rough. I see a lot of potential here. Cities in Africa with a rough look tend to be more lively than the "cleaner" ones based on my travels.

As a Cameroonian, let me tell you something straight: YOU ARE A SHAME to my Country! Am I So happy to see that you have been banned from this forum.
Even though I think Cameroon could look better than it is actually, it's not the ugliest place I've seen yet.
