Chia:"There are already plans to have the cable car station at the
Penang Municipal Park. But I feel that it is not a suitable spot."
“There are already plans to have the cable car station at the Penang Municipal Park.
“But I feel that it is not a suitable spot as it is too far away from the funicular train system in Air Itam.
“Both stations should preferably be within walking distance of each other,” he said.
He said the cable car system was expected to be completed over the next three years.
At the same time, the funicular train is scheduled for an RM40mil upgrade soon,” he said yesterday.
Chia said the public facilities and attractions on top of the hill must be improved first as they were in a deplorable condition.
“We do not want tourists waiting an hour for the funicular train only to spend 15 minutes at the hilltop,” he said.
He said there were plans to set up an information centre and a new canopy walk to replace the old one that was infested with termites.
Chia added that the Forestry Department has also decided to come in a big way to help im- prove the attractions of Penang Hill which is a nature lovers' paradise.
