Ang school admin ra man mo-pirma sa TOR di ba. so dili problema ang TOR. matagaan man ka ug TOR unless transferee ka gikan sa MIT ni Mr. Allan Maglasang, problema jud na. problema pud kung dili accredited inyo course sa CHED. mao siguro nga nagchange name na lang ang school ni Rene Maglasang para bulag na sila from MIT of Allan Maglasang. Si Allan Maglasang man ang recognized sa CHED nga president sa MIT. ambot lang nila oi... gubot man. i hope settled na nila ila problema. basta karon, MIT ug NMIT na sila hehe i wish and pray that both schools will succeed. the more schools, the merrier :bash:   :)

Yup problema jud ni kung wala ma recognize sa CHED ang ila mga programs. Kinahanglan man cguro special order from CHED for the TOR to be valid for Board Exam purposes since dili deregulated ang status sa school.

No brownouts during polls after power plants ordered to stop shutdowns

The Philippines is expected to be free from brownouts during elections after the government instructed all power plants to temporarily cease maintenance and rehabilitation efforts starting May.

This was announced by the Department of Energy on Tuesday, adding that all power plants will be up and running, especially from May 9 to 11, a three day period covering the day before, during, and after the elections.

The department is "making sure that the power supply will be ready, [that] the power sector is ready for the elections," DOE Assistant Secretary Irma Esconde said.

The "no maintenance" order — at least from May 9 to 11 — has also been extended to power producers and cooperatives in the Visayas.

Meanwhile, in Mindanao, an energy task force composed of all stakeholders and organizations, is overseeing management of Lake Lanao’s water levels.

From May 9 to 11, water is going to be released, enabling hydro electric plants to generate anywhere from 400 to 500 megawatts (mW) of power, enough to address the current 300 to 500 mW shortfall.

The island’s power supplies would be increased by another 10 mW that would be sourced from the Iligan Diesel Power Plant and a separate five mW from the Southern Power Philippines Corp.

“Industrial customers are also being advised to de-load some of their requirements so as to ease the power requirement in the Mindanao area and they are very supportive based on our stakeholders meting last Monday in Cagayan de Oro they are very supportive to de-load during that period," she added.

As a result, all maintenance and rehabilitation are being rushed. At the same time, all independent power producers, natural gas facilities, and generating companies have been advised against undertaking maintenance during the elections.

Meralco, the Philippines’ largest electric company, also has its own set of contingencies in case of a power shortage, Esconde said.

The company would be able to immediately restore power in polling precincts and canvassing areas, she added. - RJAB Jr., GMANews.TV

Miriam Quiambao talks about Gibo Teodoro

http://i1020.photobucket.com/albums/af321/jeffphilippines/300getty_mquiambao.jpg

By Janie Octia, Yahoo! Southeast Asia

Twitter followers of 1999 Miss Universe 1st-runner Miriam Quiambao were surprised to get not only updates about her life but also tweets expressing support for Lakas-Kampi-CMD standard bearer Gilbert Teodoro.

In her April 20 tweet, she said that "of all presidentiables, Gibo is the only who can unite this country of divided people and bring this archipelago together. Healing."

The beauty queen also tweets about updates on Teodoro's campaign and even answers questions from her followers regarding her bet.

For Quiambao, Teodoro is the most competent and the right man for the job among all the presidential aspirants.

In an email interview with Yahoo! Southeast Asia, Quiambao reveals she has never met Teodoro in person.

"I know of him only through what I have seen on his interviews and what I read about him in the media,” says Quiambao. “I am amazed at what other people who know him and have experienced him say about the man," she adds.

Quiambao also admires his commitment and loyalty to his wife, Tarlac’s 1st district representative, Nikki Prieto-Teodoro and their son.

“We need a leader who sees family as a priority because it means that he recognizes the needs of every family and will work toward keeping it together.”

The beauty queen-turned-actress admits that no presidential candidate asked for her endorsement and that her vocal support for Teodoro is voluntary.

She also asked for prayers for peaceful and honest elections in her April 28 tweet.

“Once your vote is cast, let go & let God,” she adds.

Quiambao plans to attend the scheduled youth rally for Teodoro on May 1.

Melo worried PAL strike may affect ballot delivery
KIMBERLY JANE T. TAN, GMANews.TV

| More Share .Commission on Elections (Comelec) chair Jose Melo has expressed worry that the impending strike of the employees of flag carrier Philippine Airlines (PAL) might affect the delivery of the ballots to different provinces nationwide.

"Pag inabutan tayo ng strike baka mapilitan tayo by sea, baka kulang din ang facilities nila (If there's a strike, we might be forced to deliver by sea, other airlines might also lack facilities)," Melo said in a chance interview with reporters Thursday.

Melo issued the statement after PAL employees filed a strike notice because of the airline's plans to lay off 3,000 workers and outsource three of its non-core units by the end of May.

The poll body chief said he expects the strike will affect the cargo handling operations of the airline.

But he said that he has already coordinated with the Departmet of Labor and Employment (DoLE) to intervene in the matter. "I was trying to coordinatate with the DOLE to convince the PAL people if they intend to strike, do not strike until election," he said.

Earlier in the week, Labor Secretary Marianito Roque assumed jurisdiction over the labor dispute.

Aside from this, Melo said he has already ordered for the hastening of the delivery of election paraphernalia.

"I ordered our people to speed up the dispersal or deployment of the Precinct Count Optical Scan (PCOS) machines, ballot boxes as well as the ballots because... a pending strike at PAL which may affect our movement," he said.

Melo said they usually deliver poll materials to areas in Luzon by land but that they have traditionally utilized air carriers in their deliveries to the Visayas and Mindanao.

PCOS machines

Comelec Commissioner Gregorio Larrazabal said that 23 percent of the ballots for Luzon, 21 percent for Visayas, and 71 percent for Mindanao have already been shipped out.

Poll machine provider Smartmatic bagged the contract to deploy the ballots with the help of forwarder Air 21.

On the other hand, Larrazabal said 35,279 PCOS machines — 17,077 in the Visayas and 18,202 in Mindanao — are now in their respective hubs in the two regions.

In Luzon, a total of 6,538 machines have been delivered as of Monday, Larrazabal said.

The PCOS machines must reach their designated precincts three days before the elections for the testing and sealing.

The Comelec hired three forwarders — Germalin Enterprises, Ace Logistics, and Argo Forwarders — to transport the poll machines. These forwarders will be held liable if the machines do not reach their locations on time. — RSJ,GMANews.TV

“Lakas-CMD will only be up to May 10 elections,” pahayag ni Ocampos.

Quiboloy endorses Gibo, says admin bet chosen by ‘Father’

JERRIE ABELLA, GMANews.TV

| More Share1144 .(Updated 9:08 p.m.) Pastor Apollo Quiboloy, founder of the religious group Kingdom of Jesus Christ (KJC), has formally endorsed the candidacy of administration standard-bearer Gilberto “Gibo" Teodoro Jr.

Who is Pastor Q?
To ordinary people, he might just be a multimedia preacher, but to his flock of six million all over the world, Pastor Apollo Quiboloy is the Appointed Son of God.

Quiboloy, or “Pastor Q" to his followers based mostly in Davao City, is the founder and leader of the religious organization Kingdom of Jesus Christ (KJC).

The group, which claims membership in other continents such as North America, Africa and Europe, has a total of three million registered voters in the upcoming polls.

The KJC tries to reach its supposed six million members all over the world through the Sonshine Media Network International, which includes a broadcast network (ACQ Kingdom Broadcasting Network), a radio station (Sonshine Radio), and print publications (Pinas Newspaper, Sikat Newspaper, and Guide Magazine).

Besides the KJC’s head, Quiboloy also manages a number of charitable institutions providing assistance to children, the handicapped, and the needy, through the Sonshine Philippines Movement. GMANews.TV“Tonight let it be known, and to all Filipinos, that the Almighty Father has appointed the president for this nation, he is no other than Gilbert 'Gibo' Teodoro," Quiboloy said during the group’s annual Thanksgiving and Worship concert at the Kingdom of Jesus Christ: The Name Above Every Name compound in Catitipan, Davao City.

The concert was beamed live worldwide over the group’s Sonshine Media Network.

The kingdom’s members erupted in wild cheers as Quiboloy endorsed Teodoro as the best president to lead the country in the next six years.

“With this proclamation, I may either sink or swim, but I know this decision is best for the nation," Quiboloy said.

Quiboloy was supposed to identify the presidential bet whom he would endorse last April 25, his 60th birthday, but deferred it to May 2 because the “Divine revelation wasn’t yet clear at the time."

Quiboloy, however, has yet to endorse any vice presidential or senatorial candidate.

A KJC statement released Saturday said Quiboloy, considered by his followers as the "appointed son of God," has been having “sleepless nights praying to the Father for a clear and direct answer" regarding whom he should support in the May 10 elections.

A report by Ruth Cabal in GMA News' "24 Oras" said Teodoro, a former Defense secretary, was spotted in the venue of the KJC gathering.

Quiboloy’s congregation boasts of six million followers from all over the world, and has an estimated three million registered voters for the upcoming polls, according to the statement.

Teodoro has been ranking 4th in various presidential preference surveys.

Other presidential aspirants, as well as candidates for vice president and senator, had visited Quiboloy in Davao City to get his support.

In a speech before the group’s members, Teodoro thanked Quiboloy for the endorsement.
He likewise exhorted the public to vote conscientiously, adding that the coming elections are not just about his fate but the fate of the country as well.

“I am thankful to our beloved pastor [for this anointment]," Teodor said when he took the stage. - KBK, GMANews.TV

Pastor Quiboloy anoints Teodoro

Close this DAVAO CITY—The waiting is over—the “anointed one” is administration presidential candidate Gilbert Teodoro Jr.

Televangelist Pastor Apollo Quiboloy—who claims to be the “Appointed Son of God”—Sunday night ended speculation on whom he would endorse to his followers for president in next week’s elections.

Quiboloy’s sect, called “Kingdom of Jesus Christ, The Name Above Every Name,” claims to have four million followers in the Philippines and abroad.

“Tonight let it be known to all Filipinos that the Almighty Father has appointed the president of this nation. He is no other than Gilbert “Gibo” Teodoro,” Quiboloy told thousands of cheering followers.

Quiboloy’s endorsement had been avidly sought by all of the major presidential candidates. He made the announcement at the headquarters of the sect in Davao City.

Speaking to Quiboloy’s followers, Teodoro described the evangelist as “not just a great spiritual leader but also a man with an intense patriotism and love for the country.”

Teodoro lags far behind the Liberal Party’s Benigno Aquino III, Nacionalista Party’s Manuel Villar and Pwersa ng Masa’s Joseph Estrada in opinion surveys.

Before announcing Teodoro’s name, Quiboloy said he was “grateful and humbled by the deep trust you have bestowed upon me to be your guide in making a very crucial decision that will chart the course of our nation.”

“Eight days from now, 50 million of us Filipinos will be casting our votes. And as it is in the heart of every Filipino, we all have been asking for guidance in choosing the right leader that will lead our nation,” he said.

He added: “This night, I come before you to proclaim the country’s next president.” A little later, he announced Teodoro’s name.

Lawyer Edwin Lacierda, spokesperson of Aquino, said Quiboloy’s choice was a “disappointment” but he added there were other big groups set to endorse Aquino. With Philip Tubeza and TJ Burgonio

Gibo cites edge over rivals, hopes to win polls

Cebu Daily News

First Posted 08:20:00 05/03/2010

ALTHOUGH still lagging in the surveys with only a week to go before the May 10 polls, administration presidential candidate Gilberto “Gibo” Teodoro is still hoping he will be able to snatch the highest post in the government, citing his edge over other presidential candidates like his “clear” agenda of governance.

“They want genuine change. How can you have a genuine change when you do not have a road map or a platform? How can you have genuine change if you sow the seeds of division now? How can you reconcile when right now you are attacking people? After you prosper you expect the person to make up with you just because you say so. I don't think so. We must start now on the road to genuine change and reform,” Teodoro said, taking potshots at his rivals.

Teodoro plans to improve the quality of education, build infrastructures and give free medicines particularly to the poorest of the poor.

“We deserve good international standing because we are good Filipinos, not because we are mendicants to the rest of the world. We deserve food security. We need to capacitate our local governments to give basic services to our people. We need a sustainable and principled peace based on the rule of law in each and every part of the country,” he said.

On Saturday, around 168 congressmen and 57 governors of Lakas-Kampi CMD around the country announced their “pledge of commitment” and affirmed their “utmost and unwavering” support to Teodoro. The manifestation, known as the Cebu Declaration, was welcomed by Teodoro.

“The Cebu Declaration is not just to support the candidacy of Gibo but a working government for the future of this country from June 30, 2010. This is not a simple show of support for Gibo but this is a road map for development for our country at the soonest possible time,” Teodoro told his allies.

He said his allies' signature is a commitment to a future agenda “for people who have been waiting for too long and cannot wait anymore to make the country a proud one, to make their country a strong one.”

“Perhaps I am going to be elected for, if not to make this country better. It is not for our personal agenda. Almost all of us have already achieved and will achieve more in the future but we can't do that if our country is divided and naggered,” he said.

But former Cebu governor Emilio Lito Osmeña thinks it will be Liberal Party bet Sen. Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino who will win the elections.

An avid supporter of Aquino, Osmeña said he would rather that Aquino and LP leaders focus on implementing their reform agenda instead of going after their perceived enemies.

Osmeña was reacting reports that the Liberal Party has included Government Services Insurance System (GSIS) general manager Winston Garcia in its hitlist, prompting the latter to work with Nacionalista Party standard-bearer Sen. Manuel Villar.

Osmeña said he spoke to Winston a few months ago and “yes he told me that months ago because he is in the hitlist of the Liberal Party”. “(But)I dont know if there is such a list,” he said.

Thus, Osmeña, who had the Garcias support when he ran for vice president, said Winston wanted to make sure that Aquino would not win.

“Winston did tell me that kanang mga Liberal, dili na man lang unta ko mo lihok, ila ko gibutang sa hitlist,” the former governor told Cebu Daily News.

However, Osmeña said this should not be the case.

“I think the Liberal Party should focus on moving forward.... Let’s not waste our time looking for skeletons in the closet,” he said.

Such a job should be left to “a department that should be dedicated to that.”

Osmeña said Aquino should now start to think of what to do when he takes his oath of office.

“That is where most of my time is occupied. What necessary legislation he may need in order to hasten what I feel the direction of this country should be,” he said.

Osmeña said he wanted Aquino to pursue an earlier plan to adopt an open sky policy to encourage more investments into the country.

“You know what that will mean for Cebu? Boom time for Cebu,” he said.

Osmeña said that since Cebu and the rest of the country lack manpower and space, “we cannot be an industrial nation.”

The government, he said, should instead focus on making the country a services country.

As this developed, Stars will fill Cebu today as the Liberal Party kicks off its final campaign sorties.

Kris Aquino will lead the pack of stars promoting the candidacy of LP candidates.

Among the stars along with Kris are Boy Abunda, Jed Madela, Eric Santos and some comedians who will entertain supporters as they visit the northern part of Cebu.

The group will hold a press briefing today at the Mactan Cebu International Airport at around 9:00 a.m.

They will then fly to Madridejos in Bantayan Island at around 9:45 am where they will have a motorcade from Madridejos to Sta Fe.

From there, the group will proceed to Bogo City and Danao City to meet supporters in a motorcade.

At 4:30pm, a motorcade will be held in Lapu-lapu City before the group flies back to Manila. /REPORTERS ADOR VINCENT S. MAYOL, DORIS C. BONGCAC AND CORRESPONDENT EDISON DELOS ANGELES

Aboitiz subsidiary building more hydropower plants
abs-cbnNEWS.com
Posted at 05/03/2010 7:36 PM | Updated as of 05/03/2010 7:36 PM

MANILA, Philippines - Aboitiz Power Corp.(APC), the power generation subsidiary of the Aboitiz Group, is planning to install more hydropower plants in key sites in northern Luzon and Mindanao.

APC senior vice president for operations and maintenance Chris Faelnar, said the APC is finalizing feasibility studies on hydroelectric power facilities in the Mountain Province in northern Luzon, and in Bukidnon and Sita, Davao City, in the Mindanao islands.

Faelnar said the power plants would have a capacity ranging from 40 to 60 megawatts (MW).

The Sabangan hydropower plant in Mt. Province will have a capacity of 28MW.

On top of these projects, Faelnar said the power company is also eyeing the development of a 27.5-MW Tamugan hydropower plant, also in Davao City.

However, the plant's capacity could be reduced to 10MW to appease the Davao City Water District, which had expressed concerns that the project may affect the distribution of drinking water in the province.

Currently, APC is one of the largest private renewable energy producers in the Philippines. Its portfolio includes geothermal and hydroelectric power plants nationwide, including the Bakun plant in Ilocos Sur, Magat plant in Isabela, and the Ambuklao plant in Benguet. APC also operates geothermal power plants in Tiwi, Albay and the Makban facility at the Laguna-Batangas border.

Mindanao grid supply remains at ‘yellow alert’
By MYRNA M. VELASCO
May 4, 2010, 3:49pm

Political parties cannot truly rest easy as the three-day critical period of May election exercises still places power supply in the Mindanao grid at “yellow alert” state, which means that any slight flicker in the electricity system will result in rotating brownouts.

Based on the documents culled from the Department of Energy (DoE), a very marginal reserve will be in place during the poll period; and these would still be lower than what the system needs to render efficient and reliable supply. On May 9, anticipated reserves will be at 133 megawatts; May 10 at 108 MW and May 11 at 106-MW.

All throughout the month of May, consumers in Mindanao will continuously suffer from rotating brownouts as shown from the power supply outlook drawn up by the energy department.

Even at dates bordering the election period, the grid will be suffering from significant generation deficiencies. On May 7 and 8, the generation deficiencies are anticipated at 412 and 346MW, respectively. While on May 12 and 13, the supply shortfall will correspondingly be at 347 and 376 megawatts.

Based on the contingency plan prepared by the energy department, it strived at ensuring that there would be additional water drawdown from Lake Lanao during the considered critical three days so power generation from the Agus plants, Mindanao’s main source of power supply, can be shored up four-fold.

From forecasts, Mindanao is seen continually suffering from rolling power outages until June, given the extremely de-rated capacity from hydro plants from which the grid has been heavily dependent upon. Government planners are then advised to factor in both drought and no-drought conditions as criterion in crafting investment blueprints.

The government-devised energy plan also indicated that even after the drought predicaments of Mindanao due to the El Niño phenomenon, the grid’s supply will still be scant; hence, it must be prioritized by the DoE when it comes to investment invitations.

The line-up of power projects for the grid remained dismal because of concerns on relatively low prices if the currently-dominant hydro facilities will be applied as benchmark. For any investor, it will not be prudent to match it because it cannot justify recoverability for investments.

From 2010 to 2015, the DoE’s assessment is that Mindanao will be in need of additional 400 to 500 megawatts. After it was plagued by El Niño that practically obliterated power planning parameters, the government also saw the logic for fuel diversification on plants that shall be constructed in the grid.

BoI okays duty-free entry of gensets for Mindanao
05/04/2010 | 08:17 AM

The Board of Investments (BoI) has approved the duty-free entry of imported generators to ease the Mindanao power shortage, managing head Elmer C. Hernandez told reporters on Friday.

The tariff privilege will be afforded to "any industrial or commercial entity incorporated... under Philippine laws located in Mindanao" except for retailers that merely resell the gensets, finalized guidelines for the measure showed.

It is part of the implementing rules for the "disaster risk management" heading of the 2010 Investment Priorities Plan (IPP) which lists business activities eligible for tax perks.

The measure will take effect once Malacañang publishes the IPP framework and the BoI completes the implementing rules.

Mindanao has been experiencing severe rotating brownouts as an El Niño-induced dry spell has hit the hydroelectric plants on which the island depends on for most of its power.

The shortage in Mindanao stood at 511 megawatts in late April, better than the 800-megawatt gap in March.
Productivity in sardine canneries, fruit processors and call centers based on the island, among others, has been hurt by the power outages.

Firms will be eligible to apply for the duty-free importation of generators "until such time that the state of calamity in Mindanao is lifted," the guidelines state, adding that the BoI can choose to keep providing the privilege to certain sectors.

The guidelines go on to detail the application process for firms seeking the perk: they must fill out forms available in BoI extension offices in Mindanao and pay a P1,500 filing fee to secure a "certificate of authority to import," which will then be presented to Customs officials. -- Jessica Anne D. Reyes calls for heads to roll for PCOS glitches
By Kristine L. Alave
Philippine Daily Inquirer
First Posted 21:22:00 05/04/2010

MANILA, Philippines—An enraged former Energy Secretary Angelo Reyes barged into a Commission on Elections press briefing on Tuesday and demanded the heads of the people responsible for the technical glitches in vote-counting machines that failed to count votes for his son in a mock election conducted in Pasig on Monday precisely to test the equipment.

Reyes and his son, Taguig City Representative Jett Reyes, a re-electionist, interrupted Comelec officials as they were explaining how last Monday's testing and sealing revealed technical problems in the vote-scanning and counting scanning machines that were not detected in previous mock elections.

The younger Reyes complained to the Comelec that the precinct count optical scan PCOS) machines did not read any votes for him, even though his supporters and watchers filled up the ballots during the testing and sealing process.

Jett Reyes was proclaimed as Taguig City congressman only last March after three years of protest at the House of Representatives Electoral Tribunal. The tribunal said Reyes won with 26,967 votes against Henry Duenas who had 26,930 votes, or a difference of 37 votes.

After the younger Reyes finished his speech, the elder Reyes stood up and demanded an investigation, saying the automated elections process was “failing.”

Reyes stepped down as Energy Secretary last month after he agreed to become the first nominee of party-list group 1-UTAK, which claims to be for the transport sector.

“This is not acceptable! We are playing with fire here. Somebody must be responsible for this and we demand that the Comelec do an exhaustive investigation. People responsible in this anomaly must be hanged!” Reyes said.

Makati City Representative Teodoro Locsin Jr., the co-chairman of the Joint Congressional Oversight Committee on Automated Elections who was at a news briefing, agreed with Reyes.

“They should be—together with the people responsible for the power crisis,” he said, alluding to Reyes' former job as chief of the Energy department.

Locsin's retort was greeted by applause in the Comelec session hall. The elder Reyes smiled and clapped, but said he was no longer the energy secretary.

The power crisis in Mindanao has threatened to delay the voting and canvassing in the region. Before he stepped down as energy chief, Reyes met with Comelec Chairman Jose Melo to assure him of uninterrupted power on May 10.

Comelec officials led by commissioner Rene Sarmiento said they would be glad to explain to the Reyes family what happened during the testing and sealing of the PCOS machines.

BEI ordered to wear white shirt on May 10
Friday, May 7, 2010
SS-CDO city By Froilan Gallardo

PUBLIC school teachers manning the voting centers in Northern Mindanao on Monday during the first ever national automated elections are ordered to wear white t-shirts.

"No one should wear red, yellow, or orange t-shirts," Luz Almeda, regional director of the Department of Education (DepEd), gave the marching order to the teachers who would be deployed for poll duty on Monday.

Almeda said this would prevent perception that school teachers are sympathetic to certain political parties.

"We must conduct our duty beyond reproach. No one should accuse us of being partisan to a certain politician of a political party," she said.

Almeda said school teachers should bring at least two white t-shirts in case they have to change during the tough poll duty on Monday.

She also ordered school teachers not to eat food given by poll watchers of political parties.

"We should prepare our own food. We have enough funds to cover for two days," Almeda said.

Political parties are identified by the colors of their banners and posters. Orange is identified with Nacionalista Party standard bearer Manuel Villar.

Yellow for Liberal Party presidential candidate Benigno "Noynoy" III Aquino, while red is identified to Bagumbayan's Richard Gordon.

School supervisors from all over Northern Mindanao met Friday at the City Central School in Cagayan de Oro to discuss their strategy for the May 10 elections.

Candle lighting for polls

The teachers lighted candles with the Army and police officials Friday praying that no untoward incident will occur during the elections.

Almeda said teachers are provided with emergency "hotline" numbers for them to contact a joint Commission on Elections-Army and police task force in case of any emergency.

Still, despite the massive preparations, apprehensions linger in the minds of the teachers, according to DepEd supervisor Leobilito Obsioma.

Obsioma said they are wary that the Comelec clustered a huge number of precincts because of the availability of the PCOS machines.

He said teachers like him are apprehensive that the voters will be unruly in crowded polling centers.

"Before, there are only 200 voters per precinct but now, there are 1,000 voters. They might be unruly if there will be some delays," Obsioma said.

And since this is the first time that elections are being done fully automated, Obsioma said voters will be eager to see the process of how the ballots will be counted.

"I am sure the voters will hang around the polling centers. Magka jam-pack," he said.

DOE: Enough power for polls
By Donnabelle Gatdula (The Philippine Star) Updated May 08, 2010 12:00 AM

MANILA, Philippines - The country has sufficient power reserves to ensure an uninterrupted supply of electricity on Monday and throughout the election period, according to the Department of Energy.

“All things being equal and with no major issues playing, there will be power. Unless there will be out of the ordinary problems then th at’s the only time there will be no power,” Energy Secretary Jose Ibazeta said on Thursday at the launch of the Task Force Halalan 2010 Command Center at the National Grid Corp. of the Philippines (NGCP).

The crucial period, he said, would be from May 9 to 12.

“As far as we’re concerned in the power sector, Luzon and Visayas are assured of supply. We have back-up contingency plans in case there are (problems),” he said.

He also said that although Mindanao’s power reserve is thin, measures are in place to keep supply during the period stable.

“In the case of Mindanao, it is a hydro-based power industry. So we have been building water up in the dams. So for three days during the election period, we’ll release the water so you’ll have power in Mindanao,” he said.

For the Luzon grid, there would be reserves of 1,200 megawatt. For Visayas and Mindanao, there would be 300 MW and 100 MW reserves, respectively, during the election period.

“So we are making sure that on May 9 to 11 there will be power in Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao. But I will admit that in Mindanao, the power situation is pretty tight. So we have to be sure about the situation there,” he added.

He also pointed out that the plan to secure generator sets had been abandoned.

“Primarily, it’s because we cannot get them in on time. Our focus is basically the elections. Also that particular proposal is private in nature between the proponent and the electric cooperative. So we’re not part of that,” he said.

On the transmission side, NGCP president Roque Corpuz said they would energize a substation to serve as a back up.

“So far, everything is fine. We only hope that nothing beyond the ordinary will happen. We just think of May 10 as a regular and ordinary day,” Corpuz said.

The Task Force Halalan Command Center will issue updates on the power situation in all the grids.

“Generally, the Command Center will monitor all the different aspects of the generation and distribution of the power sector in Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao. And the monitors tell you where there is and where there is no power and how the lines are being distributed,” he said.

Mindanao dams to start releasing water Sunday
abs-cbnNEWS.com
Posted at 05/08/2010 9:10 AM | Updated as of 05/08/2010 9:10 AM

MANILA, Philippines - Energy Secretary Jose Ibazeta said Saturday that water dams around Mindanao will start releasing water to power up hydro-electric plants on Sunday to make sure that the region will not experience power interruptions during the elections.

Ibazeta said the dams will continue releasing water until May 11 to make sure an unhampered casting, transmission and counting of votes in Mindanao.

He, however, said that despite the volume of water saved up by the government for power in Mindanao, the supply remains tight.

Ibazeta said the energy department and the National Power Grid Corp. will closely monitor the power situation in Mindanao.

He said they are hoping that turning off power in commercial establishments in the region would be enough to augment the tight supply during the 3-day election period.

Meanwhile, Ibazeta assured that power supply in Luzon and Visayas would be enough for the country's first-ever nationwide automated elections.

He said there is a 1,200-megawatt reserve for Luzon, 300 megawatts for Visayas and 100 megawatt reserve for Visayas.

"So we are making sure that on May 9 to 11 there will be power in Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao," the energy secretary said. -- Reports from Dennis Datu, radio dzMM and Philippine Star

Based on surveys and opinions, Ozamiz will probably have a new administration after the election.
Recent events in Ozamiz put the present admin in a very bad light.
People were disappointed and shocked by recent events particularly of what happened yesterday that
would probably make Ozamiznons to think twice and vote for change.
I hope this change, if ever it will happen after the election, will be a change for the good of the people of Ozamiz.
God Bless Ozamiz. :angel1:  :)
