mag lisod ba if ever mag expansion ang gaisano ozamis?

Ormoc branch pa gitrabaho nila this year

Mga Bise Gobernador sa Mindanao Magtagbo sa Ozamiz city
Thursday, October 7, 2010

“This will be our opportunity also nga mapakita nato nga malinawon kita sa Misamis Occidetal ngadto sa tibuok nasud,” padayag ni Oaminal.

DTI promotes Consumers as Green Multipliers
Friday, October 8, 2010

OROQUIETA CITY--The observation of the Consumer Welfare Month of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) is anchored on the promotion of exigent environmental management to help impede climate change and the global warming phenomenon.

Delia Ayano, provincial officer of the DTI, said the environmental management is contained in a memorandum from National Consumers Affairs Council (NCAC) Officer-in-Charge Victorio Mario Dimagiba who is also the Director of the Bureau of Trade Regulation and Consumer Protection (BTRCP).

With the theme "Consumers: Green Multipliers," Ayano said the celebration is anchored on the key policy of the government to protect the environment and to adopt appropriate measures to promote and ensure proper environmental management.

In keeping with the theme, Ayano said the NCAC and Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) as the lead agency, in cooperation with all implementers of Republic Act No. 7394, otherwise known as the Consumer Act of the Philippines, are joining forces in encouraging the consumers take the vital role in the overall implementation of environmental management programs by possibly acting as 'change agents' in various areas.

These areas are: promotion of the 3Rs (Reduce, Reuse and Recycle) of the Ecological Solid Waste Management; promotion of clean air; water conservation; electricity conservation; greening campaigns and movements; and, disaster preparedness and management response.

"There is a greater need to empower consumers by way of educating them, in trying to mainstream in their daily lives the imperative need to promote environmental awareness," Ayano said.

"The major objective here and the key factor is unifying and orchestrating our efforts, as consumers, towards promoting and or building a healthy and sound environment, because one of the basic consumer rights is the right to a healthy environment. And as consumers being stewards of Planet Earth, we have our shared responsibility to protect the environment," she added.

She said there are eight basic consumer rights and responsibilities and as the saying goes "a well-informed and vigilant consumer is the best consumer."

"We should not be drifted into action. Every consumer should play his or her own role for the upkeep of our environment to become effective green multipliers," she said.

The DTI provincial office with the support from the local government unit of Oroquieta City, has lined-up various consumer-related activities for the month-long celebration of the consumer welfare month, Ayano said.

These include the hanging of streamers, consumer briefings, and consumer’s forum and seminars, among others, Ayano said.

Tuesday, October 5, 2010

Cebu Pacific cut fares for all routes by 50%
abs-cbnNEWS.com
Posted at 10/13/2010 4:49 PM | Updated as of 10/13/2010 4:49 PM

MANILA, Philippines - Budget carrier Cebu Pacific is reducing fares for all its foreign and domestic routes by 50% in a 3-day sale that starts October 14, and for travel from December 1 to 31.

"We decided to offer this big 50% off seat sale because of the demand for low fares this December. Even if this is Christmas peak travel period, we still aim to give everyone the chance to fly," said company vice president for marketing and distribution Candice Iyog.

Cebu Pacific is offering the discount for its more than 70 routes, servicing 16 international and 33 domestic destinations.

These destinations include Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Taipei, Macau, Kota Kinabalu, Singapore, Hong Kong, Ho Chi Minh, Brunei, Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, Seoul (Incheon), Jakarta, Pusan, Osaka, Boracay (Caticlan), Cebu, Coron (Busuanga), Iloilo, Bacolod, Legazpi, Naga, Laoag, Tagbilaran (Bohol), Butuan, Cauayan, Siargao, Surigao, Tuguegarao and Zamboanga.

Passengers with check-in luggage will just add P100 to "Go Lite" fares upon booking.

Cebu Pacific, which operates the youngest aircraft fleet in the country, will take delivery of 3 brand new A320s in the last quarter of 2010.

OPAPP presents GRP Peace and Development Agenda to LVGP Confab
Monday, October 11, 2010

OZAMIZ CITY--PRESIDENTIAL Adviser on the Peace Process Secretary Teresita Deles stressed on Friday, October 8, here that peace in Mindanao has always been in the consciousness of the Aquino administration.

Speaking before some 300 participants to the League of Vice-Governors of the Philippines’ (LVGP) Mindanao 1st Island Conferece being held in Bethany Gardens, Ozamiz City, Deles said the matter was included in President Benigno Simeon Aquino III published Social Contract with the Filipino people during his campaign sortie.

“Please take note that out of the 16 provisions of the contract, the number 14 provision focused on the issue of peace in Mindanao,” she said.

Deles said the current government has come up with a four-point policy on national security that includes the elements of governance, delivery of basic services, economic reconstruction and sustainability, and security sector reforms.

“The four elements constitutes the pillars of the government’s security policy for the entire country, but, very conscious that major areas of the country are still rocked with armed conflict, the President has committed to revive the peace process on the basis of a comprehensive understanding on the root causes of the conflict under clear policies and driven by a genuine desire to attain a just and lasting peace,” Deles stressed.

Deles said as earlier announced by the President, his administration is ready to resume talks with the breakaway faction of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF).

“We have even informed the Malaysian government of our request for Malaysia to resume the role of a third party facilitator of the talks,” she added.

She reiterated the government’s pledge to bring a just and peaceful closure to the peace track on mutually-agreed upon terms, with due diligence and utmost sincerity.

Spearheaded by the Office of the Presidential Assistant of the Peace Process (OPAPP), the government will participate fully towards completing the tripartite process started by the previous administration.
“Such includes the completing the legal form to address the limitations of the peace agreement. In pursuing these peace tracks, it is the welfare of the families and communities on the ground we wish to ensure and uphold,” she said.

To avoid the mistakes of the past government and restore confidence in the peace process, Deles said the President has approved the establishment of an advisory body to the different peace panels which will be drawn from representatives of the legislature, members of the 1987 Constitutional Commission, former Supreme Court justices and chairs of the government negotiating panel and representatives of local government.

On the issue of the government’s recovery plan for conflict zones in the country, which includes those in Mindanao, she said, the program has a time frame of only three years.

“Given the multi-faceted challenges of communities recovering from conflict, interventions of less than three years will not be enough but more that this would not be sustainable,” Deles explained.
During the period, she said, communities would be asked to draw up a plan within a three-year prospect and detailed one-year physical and financial plan that would become the basis for pushing forward convergent peace and development efforts on the ground.

“By January next year, we hope that the program would be in full blast. As we make peace on the table, the government is determined to build peace on the ground. We will not be able to do it without the cooperation of all stakeholders,” Deles told the participants.

Deles believes that at the end of P-Noys term, peace in Mindanao will be achieved. (NEPTALIE BATOLENIO)

San Vicente Bajo, Oroquieta City- In a report made by the City Engineer’s Office to the office of the City Mayor and indorsed to the Sangguniang Panlungsod for appropriate action, the 40-M Commercial Port is now 60-70 percent completed.

However, with the indorsed letter from the City Mayor for a response of the report, the Sangguniang Panlungsod presided by Hon. Vincent Guantero for the City vice Mayor is on official business decided to call the attention of Grace Contractor and other personalities where a recommendation for an additional 5-Million is now in question.

In the said report, City Engineer Napoleon Neri, Sr. recommended as it is concluded that a 5-Million additional funding is requested by the Contractor to finish the project as it is nearing its date of completion, due to reasons that because of the re-designing of the reinforce concrete piles they need the said amount to recover the amount in re-designing the reinforced concrete piles.

It may be recalled that the rehabilitation of the San Vicente Commercial Port is under the built and transfer scheme as embedded in R.A. 6957 as amended by R.A. 7718 during the term of former City Mayor Jorge T. Almonte now representing the 1st District of Misamis Occidental in the House of Congress.

The project contractor, Grace Construction Corporation wins the bidding and for the cost of the rehabilitation as to the built and transfer scheme, the project will be paid 10-million a year of completion for four (4) years to the amount of 40-Million.

The project started last January 21, 2007 and to be completed on January 22, 2009, to be exact, 730 calendar days of construction, but with some reason beyond control, the local government of the city extended its completion on December 31, 2010.

Accordingly as what the City Engineers Report sighted, that in its plan of work, 17 linear meters is the measurement of the reinforced concrete piles to be used in the foundation of the port, however, the Contractor re-design the measurement of the reinforced concrete piles as it go deeper in the seabed.

Grace Contractor Corporation find it deep so it begun re-designing the reinforced concrete piles to 24 linear meters in the midway of the port and change it again as it nears the end of the port to 30 linear meters long, with due consideration and importance, the date of completion is extended to December 31, 2010.

Some other engineering problems came out like the coconut tree needed in the filing of the piles was delayed because of the coconut tree resources is hard to find especially in its specific height, others were the weather condition that make it more problematic.

In the recent SP regular session, Mr. Philip Tan, Grace Construction Liaison Officer said that the 5-M additional funding requested is to be used for the RCF and the total lenght of the project at 99 meters will be finished, however, if this will not be approved then the project will be finished in its contract schedule but this will only be at 90 meters long.

With the letter request for the additional funding to City Mayor Jason P. Almonte, as the new administration, has to think it over for budget consideration and the truthfulness of Grace Contraction Corporation in its schedule of completion.

In the recent regular session, the SP as it was indorse by the Office of the City Mayor to make necessary actions, passed a resolution into the effect that Grace Construction Corporation and other personalities must attend the next session for further study of the additional funding request and the real status of the San Vicente Bajo Commercial Port.

However, insiders said that the new administration wants the project to be completed on or before December 31, 2010 as it is scheduled in the contract. With the requested 5-million additional funding they said” lets cross the bridge when we are there”.

PPA wants Iloilo port, four others privatized

MANILA – The Philippine Ports Authority has announced that it pushing ahead with its decision to privatize at least five state-controlled ports in the Visayas and Mindanao as part of the Aquino administration’s strategy to allow the private sector help the government in funding infrastructure projects.

Ports eyed for privatization include those of Davao, Cagayan De Oro, Iloilo, General Santos, and Ozamiz.

PPA general manager Juan Sta. Ana said the government is reducing its presence in these port facilities in line with the government’s private-public partnership.

“We are really reducing government intervention in running the ports,” he pointed out.

Sta. Ana added he expects all of the PPA’s more than 100 ports to be privatized before the end of the Aquino administration in 2016.

Three of the five ports already have private cargo-handling operators.

A subsidiary of International Container Terminal Services Inc (ICTSI) operates Davao port; Oro Port runs Cagayan De Oro port; and Asian Terminals, Inc. and ICTSI jointly operate General Santos.

These ports handle the bulk of local and international trade in Visayas and Mindanao.*PNA

Gov't has resolved Mindanao power shortage‏

MANILA, Oct. 17, 2010 (PNA) -- The government has resolved the power shortage in Mindanao and the region is now brownout- free, Energy Secretary Jose Rene Almendras said over the weekend.

"Since Thursday (Oct. 14), Mindanao is zero brownout and we expect that for the rest of the year. But every two weeks, we will continue to hold meetings in preparation for 2011," Almendras told reporters.

Almendras said the issuance of Circular 10-0011 "mandating the rational utilization of all available generation capacity in Mindanao and directing the attached agencies, National Grid Corporation of the Philippines and all industry stakeholders" helped to address the power supply situation in Mindanao.

The circular directed National Grid, system operator of the country's power grids, to use any and all available capacity for 45 days to maintain load generation balance in the region to meet the demand for energy at any given time.

Almendras also said Energy Regulatory Commission's ruling allowing National Grid to dispatch power from Power Barge 117 and 118 also improved the power situation.

PB 117 and PB 118, owned by the Aboitiz Group, have a combined total capacity of 200 megawatts.

"Considering the urgency of the power situation in Mindanao, the Commission hereby deems it necessary to clarify that National Grid may dispatch PB 117 and PB 118 as dispatch reserve," the ERC said.

National Grid stopped procuring electricity from PB 117 and PB 118 around September as ancillary service because the circumstances that allowed the company to source electricity from the barges were no longer present.

Ancillary services refer to power supplier-driven services that are necessary to support the transmission of electricity from power resources to load customers to maintain the stability, reliability and quality of power services.

Dispatch reserve or back up power service refers to the fast start capability of a generating unit to be immediately synchronized to the grid.

National Grid spokesman Cynthia Perez Alabanza, for her part, confirmed that there are no more power outages in Mindanao.

Alabanza said the ERC ruling allowed them to once again buy power from the two power barges.

"If the supply is dispatchable reserve, the price (of electricity) is spread out among the grid," Alabanza said.

National Grid will pass on the cost of electricity from the two power barges to distribution utilities at a cost over P7 per kilowatthour.

The rate from the two barges, however, will be blended with other charges such as cost of electricity from hydro and coal plants in Mindanao.

National Grid also reported that the Maramag-Bunawan Line 1, with a rated capacity of 330 MW, was energized and looped to the grid on the first week of October.

The improved 138-kiloVolt line from Maramag, Bukidnon to Bunawan, Davao City will improve the stability and reliability of power transmission services to Davao and other southern Mindanao areas.

National Grid said its transmission facilities in Mindanao – transmission towers, lines, and substations – have been fully operational and ready to deliver available power from the generators to the grid users.

Both back-up lines are intended to reinforce and improve the current primary lines and increase transfer capacity from the north to south of Mindanao.

National Grid said about 90 percent of the total generation in the grid comes from the northern part of Mindanao. The Mindanao grid was designed for a “two-way” flow of supply that is evenly dispersed between north and south.

"It is essential for the generation supply to be balanced between the north and south portions of Mindanao. More baseload plants must be located in the south," the company said in a separate statement. (PNA)

basin next yr pwede na ma-take home tanan apil bukog nyehehe
Naay customer gi pa sign og waiver kay gusto niya i take home ang ila left over. New style ni nga policy?

i heard some big resto and even caterers dont allow their customers to
bring home salads and other foods that easily get spoiled to avoid food
poisoning in order to shield them from lawsuits that may arise because of the spoiled food.

We'll see how it goes..

Always had a problem with that bus terminal location after you disembark from the ship coming from Cebu etc. since it seems to be located at a dead end if your traversing the business district. Ideally, it should be just off the highway so the inbound and outbound buses can just come through easily. That's why we always like that old "Lilian Express" terminal way back when. If I remember correctly, that's how those vans to Pagadian flourished as they were parked right in front of McDonalds at Geegee Mall before, which is closer to the port. Are they still there?, well, just reminiscing the old times.

There are no more passenger vans parked near geege mall. Its true that ozamiz ibjt is in a dead end.
there were plans before by the city govt to open new roads at the back of ibjt.
These proposed roads will have link to the airport road and to Brgy Carangan and Brgy Bañadero.
Actually this proposed road will be part of the on-going airport road rehabilitation project.
i would like to think that the city govt will still push through with the proposed ibjt roads even if they plan to sell the lot at ibjt :)

^^ the city govt needs to build new roads at the back of ibjt if they really intend
to sell the ibjt lot to mall owners in order for this prime commercial
lot to become attractive to prospective buyers.
It was recently announced that the city govt is currently negotiating
with Metro gaisano to acquire this lot at ibjt.
i have no idea why they choose metro gaisano over SM or Robi :)

Pero basin that time, bye bye PAL na, welcome back airphil...

If you have a chance to fly from/to OZC, then go for PAL and savor the moment while they are still visible :)

Exactly, major retailers would always go for the prime land along major thoroughfares in provincial cities; even SM in Cagayan de oro had a hard start-up because of its location as compared with Limketkai. Mayor Co in Pagadian is lucky to have C3(where Robinsons is) and Gaisano along its major road. Anyone coming from Cagayan to Zamboanga won't miss it.
