Golden Shower: Tangub City's next attraction

Tangub City (15 July) -- IN an effort to add attractive sites to the city and in response to the concern for global warming and climate change, Tangub City in Misamis Occidental encouraged its employees to plant trees.

The city government purchased 747 saplings of Golden Shower (Cassia fistula) from the Agriculture students of Northwestern Mindanao State College (NMSC) through their president Atty. Philip Tan.

This tree will normally reach 30 feet up to 40 feet and same with its width. Mostly located from Luzon to Mindanao, Golden Shower is not only an ornamental flower, but it is also used as a medicinal plant that can treat ringworms and other fungal infections.

The 747 plantlets were planted around the city, including the City Plaza, by city officials and department heads with Atty. Philip Tan, Mayor Tan and some members of Siyaget sa Kinaiyahan Volunteer Movement.

Earlier, these saplings were presented and turned over to the city government through Mayor Jennifer Wee Tan during the Employees Monthly Mass early this month at the Function Hall I.

During the turn-over, Mayor Tan emphasized that besides helping the environment recover from its dying situation, Golden Shower will also be drawing tourists when the trees shed their leaves and bear showy yellow flower in the years to come.

She wanted each household of the city to have one tree so that in time they will mature, they can produce such colorful flower. Mayor Tan also reminded the employees that Golden Shower is the city flower.

Prior to the turn-over, Mayor Tan and Atty. Philip Tan already planted the Golden Shower at the barangay entrances of the city namely: Silanga, Sta. Maria and Sumirap.

This idea is patterned after Japan when they visited the place. According to the mayor, the cherry blossoms are lined up along the street of Japan where many tourists and local people stop for pictorials. They wanted the same thing for Tangub. (Tangub City IO/PIA-Tangub City i-Net) [top]

OZAMIZ CITY--HAYAN adunay nay kaugalingon nga building ang Philippine National Police (PNP) Ozamiz City kon hingpit na nga masugdan ang pagtukod sa ilang buhatan.
Kini ang hiniusang pahayag sa mga sakop sa kapolisan nga misaksi sa gipahigayon nga ground breaking ceremony, Nobiyembre 25 sa luna niiini luyo nga bahin sa OzamizCity hall.

Ang ground breaking ceremony gipangunahan ni Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) secretary Jesse Robredo, Ozamiz City mayor Nova Princess Parojinog-Echavez, sakop sa Sangguniang Panglunsod sa pagpanguna ni Ozamiz City-vice mayor Rolando Romero, mga sakop sa PNP ug mga sakop sa Fraternal order of Eagles diin si Robredo miyembro usab.

Sa iyang kabahin, gipadayag ni Ozamiz City engineer Romeo Cabrera nga taud-taud na ang hangyo sa PNP ngadto sa local nga pangagamhanan sa Ozamiz sa pag-donate og lote alang sa ilang plano nga tukuran sa ilang kaugalingon nga building.
Saysay ni Cabrera nga usa sa tulo ka klase sa luna sa yuta ang gipangayo sa kapolisan.

Dugang sa city engineer nga ang type A mao nga nagkinahanglan og 1000 square meters, type B 600 square meters ug ang type C 400 sq.meter.
Nasayran nga ang type C ang gihatag sa LGU Ozamiz alang sa pagatukoran sa ilang bag-o nga building.

Ang building sa PNP Ozamiz nga pagatukuron adunay sukod nga 8 meters X 12 meters, duha ka andana nga adunay roof deck.
Nasayran nga ang building sa PNP adunay kinatibuk-an nga gasto nga P9 M. Naayran nga ang PNP adunay P5 M samtang giingon nga tugbangan usab kini og P5 M sa LGU Ozamiz.

Hinuon, gipaniguro ni Cabrera nga aduna nay nasayran nga P2.5 M ang LGU diin posible nga madungagan pa kini.

Gitinguha nga sa sunod tuig masugdan na ang pagtrabaho sa nasangpit nga building.

Gipadayag ni Ocampos nga wala siya magtuo nga makuha niya ang nasangpit nga posisyon ilabina nga bag-o pa lamang siya nga kongresista.

Nagtuo si Ocampos nga ang iyang mga kauban nga kongresista adunay dakong pagsalig kaniya hinungdan nga gisangonan siya sa maong posisyon.

Robredo inducts more than 2000 Barangay and SK officials in Ozamiz

OZAMIZ CITY--LOCAL Government Secretary Jess M. Robredo on November 25 inducted into office more than 2,000 reelected and newly elected barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan officials in the Oct. 25, 2010 elections.

Robredo administered the oath taking of 2,080 barangay and SK officials from Ozamiz City, Clarin, Tudela and Sinacaban, Misamis Occidental.

Ozamiz City has 51 barangay chairperson, 51 SK chairmen, 357 barangay councilors and 357 SK councilors. Clarin has a total number of 464 barangay and SK officials, Tudela; 528 and Sinacaban 271.

In her welcome remarks, Ozamiz City mayor Nova Princess Parojinog-Echavez thanked Robredo for coming to Ozamiz and pledging support to the Aquino administration.
She also urged the Barangay and SK officials to be the leverage for social transformation in Ozamiz City.

Robredo, who was guest of honor and keynote speaker in the mass oath taking, introduced by Director Loreto Bhagwani, DILG regional director X.

In his address, Robredo urged the barangay officials to work closely with the municipal government in order that programs and projects they plan to undertake are well coordinated and get implemented the soonest possible time.

He admonished the barangay and SK officials to exercise their duties and responsibilities the best way they should, pointing out that executive and legislative functions inherent in their positions should not be abused, rather must be carried out always in favor of the greaternumber of people living in their respective communities.

"Barangay and SK officials should always bear in mind that in initiating and implementing programs and projects for your constituencies, there is need to involve people in your communities to ensure achieving success," Robredo said.
The DILG chief particularly cited expenditure of barangay funds, which should be done with the involvement of the residents to make things very transparent, "otherwise, you will be suspected of engaging in irregular transactions."

"In other words, you should administer your respective barangays with utmost dedication, transparency and commitment not only to ensure succeeding in every undertaking, but more importantly, to keep the trust and confidence of your constituencies."

Robredo cited his experience as mayor of Naga City where all the programs and projects he designed and implemented benefited fully the residents of his city. As a result, his administration has been cited not only by other towns and cities nationwide, but gained approval by different international agencies.

Aquino wants Mindanao to become Land of fulfilled promises

MANILA, Nov. 30, 2010 (PNA) -- President Benigno Simeon Aquino III on Tuesday assured the people of Mindanao of his support by pushing measures that will make the southern island a “Land of fulfilled promises”.

The President issued the assurance at the presentation of “Mindanao 2020,” a peace and development framework plan expected to be fulfilled in 20 years, 2011 to 2030.

“I am here to serve you, not boss you around. Mindanaoans are also my boss just as every citizen in every part of the archipelago,” Aquino said.

Two key advocacy groups from Mindanao, the Mindanao Lawmakers Association (MLA) and the Confederation of Provincial Governors, City Mayors and Municipal Mayors League Presidents (CONFED-Mindanao), through a joint resolution, presented the program to President Aquino today in Malacañang.

The program envisions the people of Mindanao from all cultural and socio-economic backgrounds to attain a sustainably uplifted quality of life through collective achievement of a peaceful, developed and integrated Mindanao.

Witnessing the program presentation were various Mindanao stakeholder groups from the business sector, local government, civil society, youth, peace and development advocates and donor agencies.

The key projects to be delivered in Mindanao are in the fields of infrastructure, agriculture, peace and security and poverty alleviation, among others.

“We will ensure that appropriate intervention is immediately targeted and sent to highly-impoverished and vulnerable areas. Mindanao will be at the core of our social development and poverty alleviation program, such as the Conditional Cash Transfer program”, the President said.

The President said that long-term programs are being set for internally displaced persons in cooperation with development partners such as the European Commission.

To capitalize the agricultural strengths of the region, the government will push for the agricultural development of Mindanao by transforming it into a modern agricultural center and the nation’s food basket.

MANILA, Nov. 30, 2010 (PNA) -- President Benigno Simeon Aquino III on Tuesday assured the people of Mindanao of his support by pushing measures that will make the southern island a “Land of fulfilled promises”.

The President issued the assurance at the presentation of “Mindanao 2020,” a peace and development framework plan expected to be fulfilled in 20 years, 2011 to 2030.

“I am here to serve you, not boss you around. Mindanaoans are also my boss just as every citizen in every part of the archipelago,” Aquino said.

The key projects to be delivered in Mindanao are in the fields of infrastructure, agriculture, peace and security and poverty alleviation, among others.

The President said that long-term programs are being set for internally displaced persons in cooperation with development partners such as the European Commission.

To capitalize the agricultural strengths of the region, the government will push for the agricultural development of Mindanao by transforming it into a modern agricultural center and the nation’s food basket.

19th Christmas symbols Festival opens

TANGUB CITY--It started with a simple concept of putting a Christmas Tree in the middle of the plaza to keep alive the small city during Christmas season.

Then the following year, the man at the helm of running the city made it sure that his first lady will have something to look forward to during the Holidays, so he added another Christmas Tree in the plaza and the rest is what they say is history.

This was recalled by City Mayor Philip Tan during the opening ceremony of the Christmas Symbol Festival, a month-long celebration that features gigantic Christmas symbols lighted to its glory using indigenous materials that would reveal the ingenuity of Filipinos, especially the Tangubanons where hundreds of people witnessed the grand evening affair.

“Bag-o ming kasal adto, gimingaw man gud siya sa ilaha, mao nga aron malipay siya akong gibutangan og Christmas Tree hangtud nga daghan na ang miduaw,” Tan added.

From a single Christmas Tree in the middle of quiet plaza to a glowing Christmas wonderlands, Tangub City is what it is now and is known for.

The city through the years has been the favorite destination of visitors, both foreign and local, during Christmas just to witness the gigantic symbols, added Tan.
On its 19th year of staging, mayor Philip Tan who started the event and now thank all the Tangubanons for their trust and confidence to their leaders and the visitors, foreign and local alike, for their continued support and making their city the Christmas Symbol Capital of the Philippines.

Department of Tourism 10 (DOT) director Catalino Chan III, during the opening ceremony, congratulated the leaders of Tangub for the resounding success of the event.

Misamis Occidental vice-governor Henry S. Oaminal thanked the Tangubanons and its leaders for their contribution in making Misamis Occidental the most visited destination in the country because of its Chritsmas symbols festival.
He added that Tangubanons' unity to produce the best and grandest display of Christmas symbols by far, would show that the rest of the country can learn a lesson or two from the Tangubanons in facing and overcoming obstacles that the country is facing.

In a separate interview, former Mayor Jennifer Tan, now the Area Unified Tourism Organization (AUTO) co-charmain, Regional Tourism Chairman and Director, who was pleased on that night thanked her people for all their support 18 years ago is a product of love and years after it is now generating love.
She pointed out that the month-long festival that ends on Epiphany is the best example of unity.

She also challenged her constituents of sustaining the said activity for the next years to come and the local leaders should be selfless in their commitment to serve the people.

The grand opening was witnessed by thousands of people coming from different places of the country.

Jollibee sets big plans for coffee chain

MANILA, Philippines - Jollibee Foods Corp. is expanding its gelato and coffee unit, with its top official baring a plan to triple the number of Caffe Ti-Amo stores in 2011.

In a recent interview, Jollibee chairman and chief executive officer Tony Tan Caktiong said the company is targeting to open at least 10 Caffe Ti-Amo cafés next year.

“We want it to be a mix between company and franchised stores,” Tan said.

Jollibee held the soft opening of its third Caffe Ti-Amo branch in Greenbelt 5 in Makati City on November 20. The café serves caffeinated drinks and gelato, an Italian version of ice cream.

The chain, a brand from South Korea, already has two outlets in the country—at The Annex in SM North Edsa and in SM Manila.

“[We are] looking for new locations. The important thing is [foot] traffic,” Tan added.

Jollibee first announced its plan to enter the coffee and ice cream food sector in May, when it inked a joint-venture agreement with Caffe Ti-Amo Korea Co. Ltd.

The venture, to be the master franchisee of Caffe Ti-Amo in the Philippines, will be equally owned by Jollibee and businesswoman Pamela Tan.

Established in 2006, the Caffe Ti-Amo chain has grown to 269 stores in South Korea.  

The Jollibee group operates the country’s largest network of restaurants through its brands which include Greenwich, Red Ribbon, Chowking, Manong Pepe and Mang Inasal. Abroad it has 375 stores including China-based brands Yonghe King and Hong Zhuang Yuan.

Jollibee’s 9-month profit rose 16.3% to P2.15 billion as revenues grew 10.4% to P38.42 billion.

Shares of the company rose 2.5% to P82 on Thursday’s close.

Napocor cuts rates in Luzon, Mindanao

POWER consumers in Luzon and Mindanao will enjoy lower electricity bills after the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) ordered National Power Corp. (Napocor) to adjust its power rates.

In the next nine months consumers in Luzon will enjoy a P0.34 per kilowatt hour reduction while a P0.26 per kilowatt hour cut for consumers in Mindanao.

Meanwhile, in Visayas, the electricity rate will increase by P0.09 per kilowatt hour for the next 20 months.

The adjustments will take effect in the next billing period. (Sunnex)
