POSIBLE nga mahinayon na gyud ang Panguil Bay Bridge (PBB) sa panahon karon ni Presidente Noynoy Aquino.

Ipaagi sa Public Private Partnership (PPP) ang katukoran sa PBB nga mag dugtong sa Misamis Occidental ug Lanao del Norte sa ubang bahin sa Mindanao ug sa tibuok Pilipinas.

Gipadayag ni Misamis Occidental 2nd District representative Loreto Leo Ocampos nga iya na nga nahinabi ang mga hingtungdang opisyal ilabi na sa mga kalihim sa DPWH, DBM, ug NEDA ug gituki ang kalabot sa pagpahimutang sa pipeline of projects sa national government , ang kalabot sa PBB.

Iyang gidugang nga ang tinguha alang sa katumanan sa maong tulay, natunong sa programa ni Presidente Benigno Simeon “ Noynoy Aquino III, nga magtinabangay ang gobyerno ug ang publiko pinasikad sa Private- Public Partnership .
Gani taas ang confidence level sa mga langyawng investors sa administrasyon ni Presidente Aquino, aron mopundo sa nasangpit nga proyekto.
Gipasabot ni Ocampos nga dugay na ng gipaabot sa katawhan ang katumanan sa panguil bay bridge, kay kini ang magdugtog sa Misamis Occidental ug Lanao del Norte lagbas sa panguil bay nga mao makadugang sa kaaktibo sad is og sa ekonomoya sa Mindanao.
Gani ang maong tulay ang maisip unya nga bridge of peace , bridge of friendship o kaha bridge of love.

The local govt of Ozamiz did what the city govt of Cebu did a few years back.
The LGU of Cebu offered its old terminal to RLC for commercial development of soon-to-be-constructed Robinsons Place Maxilom.
i just hope our city govt made the right move in inviting RLC to develop our agora terminal.
i know of several private prime lots around agora terminal that are also being offered to RLC :)

That's good! but city has establish that arterial road first so the site would not be a dead end. 20yrs. back, we really have an issue going to that site getting to the buses specially in the wee hours of the morning; that's basically the reason why the establishments there didn't flourish. I think city planning has to establish that road first to make the offer more promising.

Obviously the arterial road (dotted) was already considered long before and the city should have invested on it first before putting up the IBT. That should have spurred the growth of that area and made it more attractive to businesses specially with the link to the airport. Pagadian successfully implemented its bypass road and the IBT allowing buses from Ozamiz, Cagayan, and Zamboanga to pass thru it from all directions. As far as I know, all the lots along that road are now owned by local big timers and outsiders. Well, Ozamiz still has the reclamation area to boot and perhaps this where the greatest potential lies because of its proximity to the busy port and the public market. It will be more expensive to construct on reclaimed land because it has to be a mat foundation with piles but the return of investment is guaranted and faster; just like in any real estate rule, location! location! location!.

OZAMIZ City––Tourism officials graced the soft opening of MU Manor Hotel here on December 1, 2010 that coincided with the opening and lighting of the Christmas Symbols Festival 2010 of Tangub City.

The hotel, located at the Circumferential road in Ozamiz City, is owned and managed by the Misamis University (MU).

Gaisano expands to southern Leyte

MAASIN CTIY, Philippines—The Cebu-based Metro Gaisano retail group is expanding into southern Leyte with an initial investment of around P100 million.

Edward Gaisano, chairman of Vicsal Development Corp., said the company would develop a one-story structure owned by the city into its first supermarket and department store branch in this part of the Visayas.

Vicsal is a private family corporation primarily engaged in the retail business. It owns and operates the Metro chain of department stores and supermarkets.

Metro Maasin, which is scheduled for completion in the third quarter of 2011, will be put up at the integrated terminal and market within the reclamation area in Combado village, Maasin City.

The store would have a floor area of close to 6,000 square meters but Gaisano expressed optimism that the company would eventually expand its operations.

Under the agreement with the Maasin City government, Vicsal would undertake the project under a build-operate-transfer (BOT) scheme, which would allow the corporation to use the building without paying any rent.

However, at the end of 25 years, the Maasin City government may start collecting rental fees from Vicsal.

Maasin City Mayor Malone Samaco expressed elation over the project, which would benefit the city, initially by providing employment to about 300 workers and at the end of the 25-year-period, payment of rental fees.

“Instead of getting a loan from a bank to finish what we have started, we now have the Metro Gaisano as our partner,” Samaco said.

The city has spent about P40 million for the construction of the building, which has a completed foundation and several posts in place.

During the recent ground-breaking ceremony, Gaisano said the group decided to open a branch in Maasin because it believed in the great potential of the city, which has a population of 70,000.

“It’s obvious. Maasin is the capital (of the province) and is very near Cebu City,” Gaisano said in an interview.

He recalled that about 10 years ago, then mayor and now Southern Leyte Governor Damian Mercado invited the company to put up a branch in the city.

Gaisano declined the invitation at the time because the group was not yet prepared to branch out to southern Leyte. “But now, we are ready,” he said during the ceremony that was attended by Gov. Mercado, Representative Roger Mercado and city officials.

The company is also set to open the Metro Store in Alabang Town Center in Muntinlupa in the third quarter of next year, Gaisano added.

OUTSTANDING local government units (LGUs) in Northern Mindanao were recently given P1-million assistance as a form of grant for their high performance in planning, budgeting, revenue mobilization, financial management and budget execution, procurement and resource mobilization.

Under the Department of Interior and Local Government's (DILG) performance challenge fund (PCF) program, the towns of Naawan in Misamis Oriental, Damulog, in Bukidnon, and Clarin in Misamis Occidental are among the 15 fourth- to sixth-class municipalities that excel in the criteria of the interior department's "Seal of good housekeeping."

Mayors Jaime C. Roa and David M. Navarro of Naawan and Clarin, respectively, together with Damulog vice mayor Pacomeo S. Getigan, expressed their deep gratitude for the creation of the program towards a great help in fulfilling their future projects.

In a statement, the DILG said Secretary Jesse M. Robredo's program acknowledges sound fiscal management, transparency and accountability, good planning and good performance in monitoring of these towns.

The program aims to stimulate LGUs to put premium on performance in order to avail of counterpart funding to use in jumpstarting local economic development initiatives for the reduction or eradication of poverty in the selected areas.

Robredo said the fund is part of the P30-million initial budget for Fiscal Year 2010, which he has set aside from the department's savings as incentive for good LGU performance.

Next year, the DILG is also setting aside around P500 million to fund the program for "honest and responsible" town leaders. The amount is part of the P86.9 billion budget of the agency for CY 2011.

DILG-Northern Mindanao Regional Director Loreto T. Bhagwani congratulated the grantees. He is hoping the amount would be put to good use as counterpart to fund developmental projects in their localities. (Loui S. Maliza)

Northern Mindanao palay output down in 3Q

THE National Economic and Development Authority (Neda) in Northern Mindanao noted a slight decrease in the production of palay for the third quarter of this year compared to the same period last year.

Data from Neda showed that palay production went down by 0.17 percent with 139,115 metric tons (MT) as three provinces in Northern Mindanao recorded decreases in rice produce during the period totaling 59 percent less – Misamis Oriental with 29.5 percent; Camiguin, 27.1 percent; and Lanao del Norte by 1.9 percent.

Increased in production in Bukidnon from both irrigated and rainfed areas were experienced during the quarter posting 98,121 MT from the same period last year of 96,363 MT or a 1.82 percent higher.

Misamis Occidental also registered a higher production for the quarter against last year with 17,851 MT from 17,205 or an increase of 3.75 percent.

However, increases from both provinces cushioned the decreases of production of the three provinces.

Bukidnon’s irrigated areas, though, posted a decrease of 7.9 percent as there was lesser pest infestation and good weather condition.

Because of the late onset of the rainy season and insufficient supply of irrigation water in some areas in Valencia and Malaybalay cities, the harvested calendar for some irrigated areas were moved to the last quarter, the Neda noted.

In contrast, Misamis Occidental experienced increases in harvested areas as harvest calendar has advanced to the third quarter particularly in the municipalities of Bonifacio and Baliangao.

But even with the decline in production, the Neda said a nine percent increase in the average farm gate price to P15.44 a kilo pushed the value of Palay to P2.148 billion, which was nine percent higher than the previous year’s level.

The Neda also said rice sufficiency level during the third quarter of the year has reached 76.11 percent, 3.72 percent higher than the level recorded in the same period of last year.

Rice inventory as of September 2010 grew by 51 percent that could last for 95 days on the region’s overall daily consumption requirement of around 27,350 bags.

9 missing, 12 hurt in Tuguegarao hotel fire

POLICE said a fire tore through a budget hotel in Tuguegarao City in Cagayan province, injuring 12 nursing students and leaving nine missing.

The Cagayan province police chief said the fire started around 1 a.m. Sunday on the ground floor of the five-story hotel and raged for five hours before being put out by firefighters.

Senior Superintendent Mao Aplasca said many guests at the Bed and Breakfast Pension House along the Mabini and Luna Street in Tuguegarao City were nursing students who planned to take a licensing exam in the city on Sunday.

At least 12 were taken to hospitals with minor burns. Firefighters were able to enter the gutted building in midmorning to search for the nine reported missing by their friends.

It was not yet known on what caused the fire.

Mindanao railway opens in 2013

A RAILWAY connecting Cagayan de Oro to Laguindingan town in Misamis Oriental will likely be operational in 2013, an official of the Mindanao Railway Project Office (MRPO) said.

Engr. Salic Darimbang of the MRPO said the government is just waiting to complete the financial requirement of the project next year to fund the construction of the phase I-segment I railway and establish a link between Cagayan de Oro and Laguindingan.

Darimbang said Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Commission (LTFRB)-Northern Mindanao Regional Director and concurrent MRPO head Mandangan Darimbang is scheduled to fly to Manila next year to follow up on the budgetary needs of the project.

The MRPO official said Railway Undersecretary Glicerio Sicat has already directed Darimbang to meet with him in Manila on February 2011 purposely to have an update on the partnership between China, Saudi Arabia and the Philippines under the official development assistance (ODA) fund for the $1.33 billion railway project linking Jasaan town in Misamis Oriental to Linamon in Lanao del Norte.

He said China and Saudi Arabia vowed to contribute at least $985 million and $300 million, respectively, to finance the project.

The Philippines will have its counterpart on the remaining amount, which the Railway department is keen to acquire before 2011 ends.

However, Darimbang expressed apprehension in meeting the target completion by 2013 because of the change of administration as the government is still inspecting the prepared plans of the previous administration for the Mindanao region.

"Mukha'ng hindi makuha ang target dahil siyempre change of administration," he said, but did not anymore elaborate.
