my wild guess ... those are legends to highlight the new features of the new peso bill or
those are areas with security markings vs counterfeiting hehe ? :hm: :baaa:

Mr JC was discourage of gaisano rent rate but now he doesnt have a choice but to keep RR & place it in the new gaisano bldg which will be constructed next year before someone else gets it! Well I only know about mr. JC's plan except gaisano.

PAL, Cebu Pacific increase flights

MANILA -- Two of the country’s biggest carriers started to beef up operations on Tuesday as they anticipate a surge of passengers heading for the holiday break.

Leading budget airline Cebu Pacific and flag carrier Philippine Airlines (PAL) added more flights in selected destinations for the Christmas season, which is expected to last until the first week of January.

For this year's peak season, PAL said it added flights to five international (Los Angeles, Hong Kong, Bangkok, Riyadh and Singapore) and seven domestic (Zamboanga, Ozamiz, Puerto Princesa, Iloilo, Dipolog, Bacolod, and Cagayan de Oro) routes.

Five selected flights going to Guam are also using a bigger aircraft (Airbus A330), the same with the mid-morning flight from Manila to Davao, using the Boeing 747-400. The Airbus 330 plane can carry up to 293 passengers.

Meantime, Cebu Pacific will launch more flights to Bacolod (January 2), Butuan (January 3 and 5), Cagayan de Oro (January 3-5), Davao (January 2-5) and General Santos (December 30 and January 4).

Cebu Pacific is also set to increase trips to Iloilo (January 2), Kalibo (December 30, January 2-5), Roxas (December 30, January 2-5) and Tacloban (December 30). (Virgil Lopez/Sunnex)

PPA posts higher ship calls in 3Q

THE Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) has posted a total of 4,091 domestic ship calls during the third quarter of this year, an increase of 5.36 percent higher than the 3,883 ship calls registered during the same period last year.

Data from the National Economic Development Authority (NEDA) in Region X showed that major ports like Cagayan de Oro had an increase of 18.07 percent on domestic ship travels while Iligan posted around 3.31 percent and Ozamiz stood at 3.21 percent.

The PPA-Cagayan de Oro’s foreign ship calls, however, declined by 12.12 percent, or from 33 ship calls in the third quarter of 2009 to only 29 over the same period in 2010.

Despite the increases in the number of ship calls, the ports of Cagayan de Oro and Iligan posted decreases in the number of passenger traffic by 0.13 percent and 2.80 percent, respectively.

The port of Ozamiz, which accounted for about 74 percent of passenger traffic, recorded 17.99 percent increase.

Cargo traffic also posted an increase of 14.19 percent, from 980,200 metric tons (MT) in the third quarter of 2009 to 1,119,297MT against the same period in 2009.

Domestic cargo traffic contributed to the increase in the total cargoes handled by the major ports in the region. However, foreign cargo traffic handled mainly by the port of Cagayan de Oro decreased by 34.25 percent.

The private ports under the Port Management Office (PMOs) of the major ports in the region recorded increases in the number of ship calls and cargo traffic by 6.08 percent and 3.75 percent, respectively. Passenger traffic in the private ports of Iligan increased by 56.74 percent compared to the same period in 2009.

Cargo container traffic also posted an increase by about 16.24 percent, or from 45,636 containers in the third quarter last year, it went up to 53,047 during the same period this year, the NEDA-X data showed.

Meanwhile, the Mindanao Container Terminal (MT) registered a positive output of 28.30 percent to 136 for the quarter this year, which is higher than that of the same period last year of only 106 ship calls.

There were 58 foreign and 78 domestic ship calls recorded during the quarter this year catered by the MCT. (Loui Maliza)

Im not sure about the actual length of the zipline but I’m pretty sure that this is longer than the one in Bukidnon. What’s more exciting to hear is that after the zipline, cable car will bring you back to Hoyohoy park.

Neda board OKs P50B for infra, agri deals

The first National Economic and Development Authority (Neda) board meeting presided over by President Aquino approved yesterday a total of P50 billion worth of projects mainly involving agriculture and infrastructure works.

In a statement, the Neda said the projects were mostly intended to increase incomes of agricultural communities, build more classrooms, and improve road networks.

Among the approved projects were the Regional Infrastructure for Growth Project (RGIP), Road Upgrading and Preservation Project (RUPP), School Building Project for Basic Education (SBP4BE), Malitubog-Maridagao Irrigation Project (MMIP) and the Agrarian Reform Communities Development Support Program (ARCDSP).

The Neda board also approved the financing of the air navigation facilities for the ongoing Laguindingan Airport Development Project, as well as the change in scope, cost increase and supplemental loan of the Northrail-Southrail Linkage Project (NSLP) Phase I.

The RGIP alloted P4.7 billion in credits to local government units (LGUs) for use in planned infrastructure to improve the investment environment of LGUs.

Funded by the World Bank and to be implemented by the Development Bank of the Philippines, the RGIP will finance “off-the-shelf” and “shovel-ready” projects such as roads, hospitals, and water supply and sanitation, among others, according to Neda.

The P34.16-billion RUPP will enhance the efforts of the government to improve and preserve national roads, it said.

The project will be implemented by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) across the Philippines, targeting various provinces such as Davao, Agusan del Norte, and Nueva Ecija, among others.

The SBP4BE, to be implemented by the Department of Education, will help build 680 classrooms in 170 schools in Central Luzon and Calabarzon.

The P960-million project will be supported by a P800-million grant from the Australian Agency for International Development (AusAID) as well as government funds.

SBP4BE will employ the Principal-Led School Building Program approach, making the recipient schools as the implementing units of the project under the supervision of their respective School Division Superintendents.

The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA)-funded MMIP II aims to develop irrigation and agricultural facilities in North Cotabato and Maguindanao, targeting 20,866 households in these areas.

Additionally, the P7-billion MMIP II of the Department of Agriculture (DA) will also support seed production farms and post-harvest facilities, and potable water supply facilities, among others, according to Neda.

The ARCDSP, a project led by the Department of Agrarian Reform, aims to increase household incomes of 35 Agrarian Reform Communities (ARCs) in Bukidnon, Misamis Occidental, Saranggani, Sultan Kudarat, South Cotabato, Maguindanao and Lanao del Sur.

The P2.5-billion program to be financed by the Italian government will have four components — agricultural and enterprise development, local capacity building and strengthening, community infrastructure development support, and project management.

The Neda board also approved the financing of the P755.24-million air navigation facilities of the Department of Transportation and Communication’s Laguindingan Airport Development Project.

The Korean Export-Import Bank (KExim) will finance P629 million for the navigation facility, while the government will fund P126.24 million.

The change in scope of NSLP 1 includes procuring level crossing devices, clips and insulators, and increasing quantities of work items. The revised project cost stands at P4.16 billion, from P4.05 billion.

The project will be sourced mainly from the Korean Government’s Economic Development Cooperation Fund and the KExim.

The NSLP 1 aims to upgrade the South Manila Commuter Rail Project, with Phase 1 covering the line from Caloocan to Alabang.

15 out-of-town contingents to join 2011 Sinulog parade

CEBU CITY, Dec. 22, 2010 (PNA) – Fifteen provinces and cities outside Cebu will join some 30 local contingents in next month’s Sinulog grand parade, which will also feature 500 performers for the grand finale.

The Sinulog 2011 edition will pay tribute to the Chinese community and celebrate Chinese influence in the local culture and economy.

Sinulog Foundation Inc. (SFI) executive director Ricky Ballesteros said although they cannot match the production numbers during the opening of the Beijing Olympics, they will try to do something similar to give the parade an authentic Chinese feel.

Aside from the performances, the stage and street décor for the grand parade will also have a touch of Chinese, including the use of huge drums and other Chinese musical instruments.

The contingents will still perform the traditional “two steps forward, one step backward” Sinulog dance, but organizers expect the music and props to feature Chinese influences.

“Even our fireworks display and the stage will have Chinese-themed design. There will also be a dragon dance during the finale. We have done our research to make sure that our tribute to the Chinese community will come out well,” Ballesteros said.

As they complete the preparations for the parade on Jan. 16, he urged the contingents to also do their research so they can come up with new and unique concepts for their story line, costumes and props.

“There are 15 out-of-town contingents joining next year, that’s why the locals are expecting tough competition. So I hope the contingents will also go out of their way to come up with something unique and new so the audience will see a bigger and better Sinulog next month,” Ballesteros added.

Among the contingents from Mindanao that have confirmed to join are the provinces of Lanao del Norte, Surigao del Norte, North Cotabato and South Cotabato, and Tangub City.

From the Visayas, contingents from Tacloban City, Dumaguete City, Ormoc City, Bayawan, Bais and Siquijor will compete, as well as the Province of Masbate in Luzon.

The number of out-of-town contingents is higher this time compared to the previous Sinulog, which saw only nine contingents competing.

Organizers expect a total of 50 contingents to participate in next month’s festivities. (PNA)
