What else can dance troupes show to outdo their Sinulog victories?

The champions of the 2010 Sinulog grand parade are returning to Cebu in January to compete again for top prizes as the best dance contingents.

Tangub City in Surigao del Norte and Placer in Masbate province, both crowd favorites in previous Sinulog fiestas, are among the 12 out-of-town delegations that have signed up for the parade and competition.

The other dance troupes are from Ormoc City, Dumaguete City, Bayawan, Bais, Tacloban City , Abugay in Leyte, North Cotabato, South Cotabato and Lanao del Norte.

Tangub City’s Tribu Sinanduloy was the best entry in the traditional Sinulog-based category this year.

Masbate dancers won in the free interpretation class.

Organizers are preparing to handle heavy traffic and big crowds on the street.

“There are a lot of balikbayans and foreign tourists this year as usual so we need to double the alert level,” said Jack Jakosalem, chairman of the Cebu City Traffic Operation Management.

The first two weeks of January 2011 are expected to be the busiest, Jakosalem said.

“The visibility of our enforcers will assure the people of a peaceful Sinulog,” he said.

For crowd control, 10,000 students from different colleges and universities in Cebu City will help keep order in the Sto. Niño solemn procession on Jan. 15 and the Sinulog grand parade on Jan. 16, said Ricky Ballesteros, Sinulog Foundation executive director.

They will be reinforced by policemen from the regional office.

Ten Kaohsiung buses will be used as holding cells for people apprhended for petty crimes or drunken conduct.

All traffic enforcers will be on duty before and during the nine-day Sinulog festivities.

“We have disapproved pre-Sinulog leave requests,” said Jakosalem and will grant leaves only after January.

Meanwhile, free shelters for pilgrims coming to Cebu City for Fiesta Señor 2011 are “80 percent ready,” said Councilor Roberto Cabarrubias, who is in charge of Devotee City operations.

Free electric power and water will be provided by the Visayan Electric Co. (Veco) and the Metropolitan Cebu Water District (MCWD).

Two telephone lines and Internet connection will be provided by the Philippine Long Distance Telephone Co. (PLDT).

For the first tme, video footage of the Devotee City will be broadcast on the Internet through free video streaming sites like usastreaming.com.

The use of empty container vans for the Devotee City is an annual project of Sinulog organzers.

The shelters will open Jan. 13 in the afternoon until the morning of Jan. 17, the day after the Sto. Niño Feast Day and Sinulog grand parade.

On Friday, Jan. 14, Julie’s Bakeshop, Jollibee and Kopiko will distribute food. On Monday, Jan. 17, the container vans will be returned to 2GO of the Aboitiz Group.

The Devotee City will be located for the first time this year beside the Compaña Maritima building near City Hall and will accomodate 3,000 devotees. /with Correspondent Princess Kathleene Gabunales

Tax bureau in North Mindanao collects P1.4B

THE Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) Revenue Region 16 (RR16) collected a total of P1.43 billion in revenue taxes from July to September this year.

Esmeralda Tabule, regional director of BIR Northern Mindanao, said the total collection is higher by P261.42 million or 23.03 percent compared to the P1.165 billion for the same period last year.

Tabule said collections on “income taxes” worth P847.79 million also posted an increase of P158.69 million or 20.04 percent from last year’s P689.10 million.

The Value Added Tax also sustained an increase of P63.54 million or 20.04 percent, from P317.01 million to P380.56 million.

Percentage taxes also increased by P1.70 million, from P62.41 million to P64.11 million or 2.73 percent, but excise taxes also known as “sin” taxes, which are levied on non-essential consumer goods, dropped from P662,822 to P121,189 or negative 81.72 percent.

Other taxes that include documentary, capital gains also increased by P38.03 million, from P96.19 million to P134.21 million or 39.54 percent.

However, on a per Revenue District Office performance, Ozamiz City posted the highest percentage of increase, from P106.89 million to P140.01 million or 30.99 percent, followed by Cagayan de Oro, from P654.10 million to P840.2 million or 28.45 percent.

Also, Malaybalay City increased from P152.86 million to P187.32 million or by 22.54 percent; Gingoog City, from P49.79 million to P53.08 million or by 6.60 percent; and Iligan City, from P201.74 million to P206.19 million or by 2.20 percent. (PR)

i agree but the problem with greenwich crossing is that the distance between the next block is very short
such that there is a need for another traffic light at Grace hardware bldg junction to coincide with the traffic lights at greenwich.

Maybe they should divide routes for the tri-sikad & motorcab. kini sila ang naka traffic dinha dapita tungod kay usa ra ang ila agi-anan. Lisod butangan og traffic lights dinha dapita para ani nga mga transportation.

What a privilege we have as Christians. We don't have to trust in ourselves or our New Year Resolutions. There really is no such thing as LUCK. For God is a God of order and plan. He knows us better that we know ourselves. He even knew us before we were born. (Psalm 139). We can trust in the Lord.

"For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end. Then shall ye call upon me,and ye shall go and pray unto me, and I will hearken unto you. And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart. And I will be found of you, saith the LORD: and I will turn away your captivity, and I will gather
you from all the nations, and from all the places whither I have driven you, saith the LORD; and I will bring you again into the place whence I caused youto be carried away captive."
~Jeremiah 29:11-14~

The words in the above verse are so very comforting. The Lord "KNOWS" the plans He has for us. He is Omnipotent and Omnipresent. The study of the Character of God is such a awesome Bible study. Just that He KNOWS. I also am reminded of the verse when Abraham asked who He was and God
answered "I am that I am". He is and we are. Isn't that so profound
and yet amazing at the same time.

When I look at the vastness of the universe that the Lord God created I am overwhelmed with His love for me. What comfort, what peace and yes what joy. To think that He would have sent His son to die just for me and you.

We can daily go to God and ask for forgiveness and He wipes the slate clean.

"If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins,
and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness."
~1 John 1:9~

The above verse is written to believers.
What a wonderful promise we have.

Isn't this the way to start your NEW YEAR?

With your sins confessed and forgiven. The word of God also says that:
"For as the heaven is high above the earth, so great is his mercy toward them that fear him. As far as the east is from the west, so far hath he removed our transgressions from us."
~Psalm 103:11-12~

Always remember that the Lord God is FAITHFUL and JUST, but most importantly GOD IS LOVE. Notice here that God IS Love.
The word IS is a verb an action word.

"Blessed be the Lord, who daily loadeth us with benefits,
even the God of our salvation. Selah."
~Psalm 68:19~

This year lets TRUST the Lord to lead and guide us.

"I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt
go: I will guide thee with mine eye."
~Psalm 32:8~

My prayer and hope for you this new year 2010 is that you are encouraged you to live by faith. Remember that the Word of God tells us that "faith is the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things unseen". Take these words and memorize them and ponder them in your heart!

"Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen."
~Hebrews 11:1~

What do you have faith in?
Who do you have faith in?

Remember the song........
"....my hope is built on nothing less than Jesus Christ and righteousness.
I need no other argument I need no other plea it is
enough that Jesus died and that He died for me."

Let's start this New Year fresh. If you do not know Jesus Christ
as your personal savior... let me invite you to become a Christian.

It's as easy as ABC to give your heart to the Lord.
All you have to do is:
Admit you are a sinner. Romans 3:23
Believe Jesus died on the cross for you. Acts 16:31
Confess your sin to God and turn from it. Romans 10:9

If you are a Christian...it is time for you to decide. Will you turn the control of your life over to the Lord? Will you let Him guide and direct you?

I was studying and looking up verses and the Lord brought a thought to my mind. What does God expect from us or What does God want us to do ?

So I decided to go the Bible the inspired word of God and find out.
God's word is very specific about the answer.

"He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the LORD require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to
walk humbly with thy God?"
~Micah 6:8~

Here are some ideas for alternate ways to have a New Year party:
1.Take the family to a church candle light service.
2.Have a family fun night. Play board games together and watch a video.
3.Have a "Take Out Feast". Maybe some egg rolls, tacos, fries, onion rings.
A little from each of your favorite style of restaurants.
4.If you would like to toast the new year in why not try sparkling cider, mineral water with bubbles or make some lovely frozen beverages with lots of fruit. You don't have to use champagne. 5.Buy some munchies & ice cream so you can "veg out" with the TV.

Just want to share this article. Here's the explanation as to why there are error in the design of our new peso bills. This would definitely please few noisy critics of Bangko Sentral :)

The peso’s makeover from an insider’s view

MANILA, Philippines – You can’t please everyone.

This immortal tenet came to the fore once more after President Benigno S. Aquino III recently unveiled the country’s next generation of peso bills to replace the ones currently in circulation since the late 1980s.

Less than three days after the ceremonial launch of the banknotes, a few critics— mostly heard and read on various online fora—tore into several elements of the designs.

The bulk of the criticism centered on the beak of the so-called Blue-naped parrot on the reverse side of the new P500 bill (what was supposed to be red was rendered in a gray-brown hue) and the “mis-located” Tubattaha Reef on the reverse side of the P1,000 (the marker that was supposed to denote it on the Philippine map was located farther south than its actual position).

These comments were characterized by most observers as petty, with no less than President Aquino pointing out that the accuracy of Tubbataha Reef on the blue P1,000 bills is a minor issue since the bills are not meant to be used as navigation aids anyway.
The early criticism, which came long before the general public got hold of the actual bills, dampened the festive mood that initial met the introduction of the bills.

Nonetheless, one of the firms that helped design the new bills recently came forward to explain the process that went into the long and exhaustive process that went into creating the newest edition of the country’s money.

According to Design Systemat president Lito Buñag, printing banknotes is not like printing brochures.

“In producing banknotes, the reproduction technologies involved from implanting security features to the ‘intaglio’ printing of the visual content is far different from commercially printing brochures in the sense that the complete visual imagery of an object, landscape or a personality is not printed faithfully as in a four-color offset printing of a brochure,” he says.

Indeed, Buñag has a current banknote from New Zealand which where a local bird is rendered in blue and green colors while the real species is colored brown and orange.

According to him, two earlier studies prepared by his company representing the new P500 design at various stages of development shows a red beak on the Blue-naped parrot. This color was changed by the printers, however, to account for practical printing concerns.

“There was no error,” he says. “The design approved by the BSP (Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas) had a parrot with a red beak. But all the colors on the P500 have to be hues that are close to yellow.”

Buñag knows whereof he speaks, as his team has worked on previous Philippine peso bill designs before, dating back to the Marcos years.

“As can be gleaned from foreign banknotes, they are largely monochromatic,” he says. “This is not an error but a function of printing capability limitations. Intaglio printing is limited in full color reproduction.”

The Design Systemat chief also notes that the alleged “mis-location” of the Tubbataha Reef was, in fact, due to the location of a critical security feature on all the peso bill denominations.

This security feature—a smaller version of the particular species of fauna on the bills’ reverse sides—was located right on top of where the actual location of Tubbataha Reef on the map.

Faced with the choice of locating a key security feature on the standard position on the bill or locating the Tubbataha market correctly, the bills’ French printers decided to move the reef market slightly south on the Philippine map (thus leading to the criticism about its alleged mis-location).

The design concept and visualization hinges on selective decisions (choices) which happen in the technical process from ‘securitization’ to engraving to printing, etc.

Buñag adds that the world-famous reef is, in fact, not a single isolated location that can be denoted by one pin on a map.

“The reef is a vast marine park, now involving 90,000-plus square kilometers,” he says. “It is part of a million-square kilometer eco-region that spans the Sulu and Sulawesi Seas.

“Therefore, the location marker placed by BSP on what is a simple schematic diagram of the Philippine Islands—or an ‘abstraction’ as BSP Deputy Governor Diwa Guinigundo describes it—is not an error as it is very much within the vast area covered by the Tubbataha Reef Natural Marine Park,” he adds.

Despite the flak that the new bills received from a few noisy elements in cyberspace, Buñag expressed his pride and gratitude for having been able to contribute to the design of the country’s new peso bills.

“We would like to express our gratitude to the BSP for giving us this opportunity to do our share in the expression and projection of the Philippines’ vibrant history, culture and life through the design and visualization of the banknotes,” he says.

And yes, they can’t please everyone.

Phl eyes additional funding for PPP Center

MANILA, Jan. 3 (PNA) -- The Philippine government plans to tap multilateral institutions for additional funding for the operation of the public-private partnership (PPP) center, according to the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA).

Socioeconomic Planning Secretary Cayetano Paderanga told reporters that the government is in talks with various multilateral and other financial institutions that will provide additional funding for the PPP Center.

"There are some partners who are willing to commit.They are just want to help," he said.

Paderanga said an initial budget set aside for the PPP's Project Development and Monitoring Facility (PDMF) Fund is P300 million.

The NEDA chief said the fund will be used for the preparation of business cases and pre-feasibility and feasibility studies.

He added that the PDMF is a revolving fund for the PPP Center.

Philamer C. Torio, PP Center executive director, added that the acquisition of right of way (ROW) is not included in the PDMF.

Torio said agencies like the Department of Public Works and Highways, Department of Transportation and Communications and Department of Agriculture has a budget of P5 billion each for ROW acquisition.

Paderanga said the PPC Center will assist the agencies in developing projects that can be funded and implemented through a solicited PPP scheme.

He said the PPP Center is separate from the Investment Coordination Committee.

Last month, the Aquino administration presented a list of priority PPP projects that are ready for bidding in the first half of next year.

These projects include the P70-billion Metro Rail Transit (MRT)-Light Rail Transit expansion; P11.29-billion MRT Line 2 extension; P7.54-billion new Bohol airport; P4.36-billion Puerto Princesa Airport; P21-billion North Luzon Expressway-South Luzon Expressway link; P10.5-billion Cavite-Laguna Expressway-Manila side section and P3.07-billion Daraga International Airport.

For 2012 and beyond, the government identified 73 projects for its PPP portfolio.

Identified PPP priorities for 2012 and beyond include airports, roads, rails, water supply, irrigation, school buildings, health facilities, solid waste management services and other social support projects.

Of these, 28 projects requiring P263.5 billion in investments will be up for competitive selection.

In the power sector alone, 43 projects will be lined up for PPP with an indicative amount of P348.5 billion. (PNA)

15 electoral cases set for resolution — Rodriguez

MANILA, Philippines – The House of Representatives Electoral Tribunal has submitted for resolution at least 15 election controversies involving congressmen.

Cagayan de Oro City Rep. Rufus Rodriguez said the HRET is expected to decide on at least 15 quo warranto cases that were among the 63 election protests filed by losing candidates in last year’s congressional race.

“We are also bent on resolving the 48 electoral protests which are issues involving the canvassing and counting of ballots under the poll automation system the Commission on Elections implemented last year,” Rodriguez said.

He aired confidence all cases filed before the nine-man legislative-judicial body will be disposed of by the end of 2011. “We are going to make sure that six months before the 2013 elections, all cases will be resolved. But I believe we may be able to finish all by December, 2011,” Rodriguez said.

Rodriguez is one of six members of Congress in the tribunal. Three other members are Supreme Court justices led by Associate Justice Conchita Carpio-Morales, as chairperson.

Rodriguez said he expects 15 quo warranto cases to be resolved by January 31. These cases involve issues on qualifications of candidates.

On the other hand, the remaining 48 cases involve claims of cheating in the canvassing and counting of votes. These cases require recounting of ballots in questioned voting precincts.

The last case was filed by former National Labor Relations Commissioner Salic Dumarpa who accused opposition Rep. Mohammed Hussein Pangandaman of resorting to massive fraud to overtake the huge lead he posted prior to the holding of special elections in the first district of Lanao del Sur last November 13.

grabe, di na gyud ko suhito sa mga barge karon... atong high school ko every week ko gasakay sa barge and dolphin,
seal, ug swallow 1 ug 2 pa lang ato gabyahe... dayon gina-time-an pa nako ang dagan, pinakapaspas ang seal... and 10
pesos pa man to pamasahe adto oi karon 25 na man! :bash:
