Lotto outlets’ bets average P116-M a month

THE National Economic Development Authority (Neda) in Northern Mindanao noted an average of around P116 million lottery bets recorded in the region every month.

Based on Neda-Northern Mindanao data, lotto outlets of the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) throughout the region posted increasing cash bets by people trying their luck in winning millions legally.

During the second quarter this year, bet collections increases to P699.054 million from P632.706 compared to the same period last year.

Records by province revealed that Misamis Oriental shared 49 percent of the region's total bets, followed by Bukidnon with 36 percent, Lanao del Norte has eight percent and Misamis Occidental with seven percent.

The Neda also noted an increasing number of lotto outlets in the region.

From 249 betting outlets recorded in January to June 2010, two additional outlets sprouted during the same period this year.

Misamis Oriental has 134 outlets, leading three other provinces in Northern Mindanao — Bukidnon, 59; Lanao del Norte, 36; and Misamis Occidental, 22.

Neda’s previous quarterly reports did not include the government’s income on lottery. However, due to insistent demand from the fourth-state, it was realized as the government’s economic monitoring department also considers it as one of the factors that affects the economy. (Loui S. Maliza)

Electric tricycles debut in Naga City on Peñafrancia Fiesta; e-jeeps on Christmas

NAGA CITY, Sept. 15, 2011 (PNA) -– The city government here has entered into a partnership with a private firm for the deployment of a fleet of electric vehicles into the city’s public transportation scene as the local government steps up its fight against the worsening air pollution.

City mayor John Bongat on Thursday said air pollution over the city is principally caused by smoke emissions of gas-fueled motor vehicles and the shift from these types of vehicles particularly in public conveyances to environment-friendly units would dramatically improve the locality's air quality.

Bongat said 70 percent of the around 3,000 passenger jeeps and tricycles plying the city streets are smoke-belchers and their operators were already warned and advised to fix their defective engines and exhaust systems or face penalty as provided for by the Clean Air Act of 1999.

Under the partnership agreement, Enzolutions Inc., a Manila-based private firm engaged in renewable energy generation and development of innovative clean technology products will initially field 50 units of electric tricycles (e-trikes) in the city starting this week timed with the celebration here of the fiesta of Our Lady of Peñafrancia, the patroness of Bicolandia.

The celebration of the regional fiesta started on Sept. 9 with the “traslacion” procession that transferred the image of the Patroness from the Peñafrancia Shrine to the Naga Metropolitan Cathedral where the eight-day novena is being prayed and observed. It will be culminated on Sept. 17 by the fluvial procession at the Naga River.

These 50 e-trikes are part of Enzolutions’ program of fielding 1,000 units of electric tricycles nationwide. By December, Gabriel Zamudio Jr., its managing director, said 500 passenger e-jeeps from the firm will hit the roads of major thoroughfares of the country and some of them will be in this city.

Zamudio said Enzolution’s electric vehicles program is in association with Eco-Merge Philippines, Inc., a Filipino-Japanese joint venture firm involved the development of solar energy projects all over the country, and Gerweiss Motors Corporation, the leader and the pioneer of various models and types of electric vehicles in the Philippines.

Eco-Merge will put up solar-powered charging stations within the year as a necessary component as the e-trikes program goes full swing and in anticipation of the e-jeep deployment, he said.

The same firm is also behind the ongoing establishment of an 11-megawatt solar power farm in a 22-hectare property in the nearby Pili town which is expected to be completed within the year. In a statement, Eco-Merge president Edgar Morada said this project is in partnership with the Australia-based engineering firm, SMEC Philippines Inc.

Bongat said that under the electric passenger vehicle program, the city government will endorse drivers who will operate the units under a lease scheme to be entered with Enzolutions.

The deployment of the initial number of units of electric vehicles in the city is contained in the project’s first phase which aims to determine its commercial viability and demonstrate to the public the technical aspect of the vehicle as a cleaner and economical alternative mode of transportation, the city mayor said.

A study shows that an electric tricycle would do away with five to six liters of gasoline equivalent to P200 to P300 a day. Daily battery recharging costs only around P45 and based on the research conducted by the University of the Philippines-National Center for Transportation Studies, gasoline-fed vehicles emit fine particulate matters that bring serious illness to people.

The emissions become even worse due to vehicle age, poor maintenance, lubricant misuse and fuel adulteration, it said. (PNA)

Police probe presence of Mindanao-based rob gang in Cebu

CEBU CITY, Sept. 15 (PNA) -– Police intelligence officials said some members of the robbery group believed to be responsible for the botched heist inside a shopping center in midtown Cebu City last Sept. 5 are in Cebu.

Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) Intelligence Chief Tomas Santander said the group arrived in the city last Thursday.

Santander said his office is still verifying how many members of the group are in Cebu, but he said he suspects that they are either out to avenge the death of their companions or are planning to stage another robbery in Cebu.

Three members of the so-called Quiapo-Cabando robbery group, based in Ozamiz City, were killed by the police during a chase, following an attempt to rob a bank teller delivering P1.2 million in cash to a money changer inside Robinsons Place at Fuente Osmena in Cebu City.

The robbers killed two security guards, and wounded the bank teller and two policemen.

Santander said CCPO is coordinating with the Cebu Provincial Police Office and the Police Regional Office 7 to determine the whereabouts of the group.

Possible robbery targets like banking and other financial institutions and malls have been informed, he said.

Santander urged the public to be vigilant and to report to the police the presence of suspicious-looking strangers in the community.

He described the group as a branch of the organization to which the Quiapo-Cabando group, led by Junjun Cabando, also belongs.

Cabando, also known as Dionesio Cabatingan, was among those who carried out the botched Sept. 5 heist. Police tagged him as its mastermind.

He was wounded by policemen in pursuit but escaped. He reportedly left Cebu in disguise by hiring a motorboat from Tangke, Talisay City.

His companions who died in the hands of police officers were Mario Dapitan, Antonio Adelan and Melencio Quiapo.

Santander said while the manhunt against Cabando continues, the police will remain on alert for reports on the presence of an affiliate robbery group.

CCPO has increased the number of police officers in crime-prone areas. A team of motorcycle-riding Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team members will be deployed soon to patrol the streets. (PNA)

Murag di man cguro sir, I heard this is the former Municipal Hall as Municipality of Misamis. and I observed sa building pang municipal hall jud ang design. then ang OSROX park daw is also the former Municipal Plaza.

mao jud nay task sa mga cheerdanders sir blue, Itsa2x ang show. haha. pero in La Salle University cheerdance competition last Wed, ang pinakagrabe na sayaw sa cheerdance kay ang STHM, pang-death dance naman ilang gibuhat as in gipakyaw ang mga itsa2x moves pero paghuman nila sa cheerdance ang cheerleader nakuyapan ug ang usa kay napakog ang ulo sa kamot. Naa pa jud hapit malamba ang usa ka cheerdancer kay murag lihuk daw, maigani nasalo ra. :lol:
