Great view of the expanding port! It has come a long way indeed from the original rickety single pier( was William Lines dominating then), to now having a large container area.

That is very true Blue!, the original pier is the one facing Bukagan hill. It was very tight, back then, the ships are not ro-ro type, the used the motorized boom with pulley to load and unload cargo, it was a sight to behold. The gang planks used by passengers to board is literally it! You have to be careful or else "lusot imong tiil". The adventures going to this port before is amazing and memorable. Now its a new era and hopefully PPA can put up a decent airconditioned terminal for passengers to pass thru, maybe a larger version of the supercat terminal in Cebu and Tagbilaran.

Mao na silay gabyahe sa una Tubod-Ozamiz or Baroy-Ozamiz vice versa on 50's yata until late 70's, naundang na pgsulod sa dagkong pumpboat with 50-70 pax cap... ambot kaha kng naa pa ba kron sa brgy annex (sa pastilan, Baraderohan nila) ang nabilin skeleton sa lantsang m/l DAHLIA katapusang lantsa sa Suizo Shipping...

He.he., so many memorable happenings on this port; it also happened before that there were two ships docked side by side so we have to go across the first one first. That was the time of the reign of William Lines then. Here's the famous ones to name a few: MV Victor, Miss.Occ.(Combination passenger and cargo), MV Ozamiz City( the best and most modern that time), MV Cebu City( fastest to Manila) and of course the fastest of them all, MV Iligan City( lots of students having beer at the roof deck!). All those times of adventure has change at Ozamiz port. Now, the gang plank is gated and you walk thru it like passing in a balcony - pwede pa mag picture taking!

Yes, Dona Virginia was the last modern ship for William Lines before the bigger RORO types came in like Mabuhay 1,2,3. Ozamiz port expansion was triggered by the RORO ships because the narrow single pier just wouldn't fit them. Also, the bus route to Cagayan flourished, thus you have the modern barge these days. By the way, there was a live band in one of those bigger Cebu ferries ship, it also had hot food in a fast food type restaurant plus the revival of the dedicated stewards who even assist the elderly in boarding the ships.

One of the smallest boats of Gothong before the glory days of Mt. Carmel, Fatima, Rule, etc. Dili pa ni siya RORO,. Tourist accommodation is a luxury, lest you end up in a "teheras" or that nylon weaved bunk bed, you have to pay or deposit ID for your beddings. Fall asleep early so the waves in Siquijor will just be a dream!

ive taken trans-asia before and it scared the hell out of me.
it was my first time with Trans-asia that time.
i said to myself that i will never take that boat again to cebu.
i was not able to sleep the whole night.

IMO, mas nindot bitaw kung pintalan na lang ang bldg kysa mag-cladding.
at least, kung sumhan ka sa color, pwede pintalan ug laing color kysa cladding nga murag permanent na.

One of the smallest boats of Gothong before the glory days of Mt. Carmel, Fatima, Rule, etc. Dili pa ni siya RORO,. Tourist accommodation is a luxury, lest you end up in a "teheras" or that nylon weaved bunk bed, you have to pay or deposit ID for your beddings. Fall asleep early so the waves in Siquijor will just be a dream!

Would be nice to have that since the old one is really cramped and linking it with a bridge to the new one should decongest it. It will also help ease pedestrian traffic by allowing people to cross-over the street, I can imagine that street will be clogged once it opens.

Please stop using the phrase "krisis sa Mindanao" o "kaguluhan sa Mindanao" on your news reports. Mindanao is a very big island. While a tragedy indeed happened in Basilan, it is only a part of a big land area. It is a disservice to all who live in Mindanao in peace. People who are not from Mindanao tend to think that there chaos all over here when there is none.

If a bombing happens in Makati in Manila for instance, you would not call it a "Luzon crisis or problem", would you? You have to be more sensitive and professional bec media has the ability to affect the consciousness of the viewers.

You can help the country achieve what it desires. Choosing your words well in your news report is matters a whole lot. -Mabel Sunga Acosta
