Grand Parade a Major Breakthrough

The City of Good Life as what Oroquieta is popularly known held its 2nd Grand Concept Parade around the capital last October 14, 2011. Now on its 2nd year the parade is a major attraction in the city’s month-long October celebration and a prelude to the city fiesta. Thousands of spectators watched the fabulous Grand Parade unfold as the first float left Oroquieta City Fish Port at 4:00 p.m.- the designated starting point of the said activity.

The Grand Parade was participated by forty ( 40 ) contingents showcasing their respective themes and concepts with identical but colorful artistic costumes and designs. There were a total of twenty three (23) idea inspired floats paraded in that afternoon. The parade goers were amazed to see inspired design floats like ” Avatar”( with their exotic blue body paint ), the neatly inspired costume.. urban invasion “Mango Lane”( backed by “We built this City” rock music) and a lot more. Culminating the Grand Parade was the 2nd leg of the spectacular Pyrotechnic Competition and live band concert by Calla Lily and Imago at the MOPAC grandstand early in the evening. The City Government through the City Tourism Office presented monetary awards to the winning contingents .The Champion-Misamis Occidental National High School; 2nd Prize-Mango Lane; and 3rd-Prize-Mindanao University of Science & Technology received P50,000, P30,000 and P20,000 respectively. Several special awards were also accorded to seven (7) winners who got P5,000 each. Nonetheless, the LGU float led by Mayor Jason P. Almonte also joined the parade depicting J.K. Rowling’s magic and sorcery movie “Harry Potter.” The people of Oroquieta were thankful to the LGU under the leadership of Mayor Almonte and SP Members under Vice Mayor Harry Guantero for being supportive in the said affair.

Meanwhile, City Tourism Officer Mr. Jay Lorenzo stressed, “ We have twenty eight (28) float entries this time compared to last year’s only five( 5). This is a major breakthrough a long queue of floats and parade watchers along the parade route can attest to that. We hope to see the Grand Parade as a major tourist attraction In a few years to come making it a City of Good Life indeed.”(ocm-miso)

we all know our firemen are ill equipped and they get some help from
some volunteer fire brigade from various pvt organizations.

POWER industry stakeholders in northern Mindanao have warned of a looming power crisis that could result in another long and hot summer without enough supply of electricity. This early, the National Grid Corp. of the Philippines (NGCP) has resorted to another power supply curtailment in Mindanao. Stakeholders fear that economic losses from a repeat of the 2010 Mindanao power crisis next year could cost the isLand's economy even more.

Even now with normal water levels for Lake Lanao and the Pulangi River feeding the isLand's hydroelectric power plants due to the ongoing episode of La Niña, the NGCP has already issued repeated "yellow" and "red" alerts following the reduction of the Mindanao Grid's contingency reserves to zero. There has also been a reduction in generation and an imminent overloading of transmission lines due to preventive maintenance on two major power-generating plants. In August alone, the NGCP declared five "yellow" and one "red" alerts. "We fear a repeat of this gloomy situation in 2010.

The recent declarations of yellow or red alerts by NGCP further confirmed that the Mindanao Grid has shor tage of capacity necessary to provide the required ancillary services as specifi ed in the Grid Code. This is not a good sign considering that we have ample rains and we don't even have El Niño yet," said Engr. David Tauli, senior vice president for engineering of the Cagayan Electric Power and Light Co. (Cepalco). Department of Energy (DOE) fi gures show electricity generation in 2010 was reduced by 6.33 percent (or 430 million kwh, excluding losses and station-use) compared to 2009. This reduction in generation represents the unserved electricity due to power supply shortage in Mindanao in 2010. Estimated economic losses using the ratio of the gross national product (GNP) to the total kwh sold or P144 per kwh in 2010 multiplied by the 430 million unserved kwh in 2010 translates to P62 billion in economic losses for Mindanao. Within the franchise area of Cepalco covering Cagayan de Oro and the municipalities of Tagoloan, Villanueva and Jasaan, Misamis Oriental, the reported total unserved energy of 15.6 million kwh translates to P2.2 billion in economic losses using the same ratio. NGCP issued a yellow alert notice for the Mindanao last Oct. 17 due to a scheduled preventive maintenance on one unit of Steag State Power Inc.'s coal-fi red power plant in Villanueva, Misamis Oriental. A yellow alert is issued by the NGCP when the "contingency reserve" is less than the power generated by the largest synchronized generating unit in the grid. As of 11 am on Oct. 19, NGCP raised the alert level from yellow to red due to a scheduled maintenance on one of its ancillary service providers, the 2nd unit of Therma Marine Inc.'s 100-megawatt power barges.

According to NGCP, the shutdown of one unit of Steag's power plant and Unit 2 of TMI's Power Barges reduced the "contingency reserve" in the Mindanao Grid to zero. This prompted NGCP to declare the Mindanao Grid on red alert status. However, Steag completed maintenance works on its unit 35 hours ahead of schedule at 1 pm last Oct. 24 resulting in normalization as of 9 am Oct. 25. The Grid Code mandates that a red alert be issued by the NGCP as system operator when the "contingency reserve" is zero, when there is generation deficiency, and when there is critical loading or imminent overloading of the transmission line or equipment. Flag carrier Philippine Airlines on Saturday said it expects to resume full domestic operations starting November 24.

In a post on its Twitter account, PAL provided a link indicating its domestic flight schedules.

"PAL resumes full domestic operations starting 24 November 2011," it said.

It said departures and arrivals for international flights are at Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 2.

However, operations for domestic flights are split between NAIA Terminals 2 and 3.

Those at NAIA-2 include:

- Cagayan de Oro
- Cebu
- Davao
- General Santos
- Iloilo
- Kalibo
- Legazpi
- Laoag
- Puerto Princesa

If Red Ribbon is only a food cart, then where would their cakes come from?, Cagayan? Or they will certify a local baker to do the job for them. If its a full store and restaurant, they also serve the best "pansit palabok"!
