Mindanao railway project ‘too expensive’

THE National Government would no longer consider the long overdue Mindanao railway project (MRP) for budget allocations in 2012 because it’s expensive.

In his visit to Cagayan de Oro recently, Department of Finance (DOF) Undersecretary Gil Beltran said for a 100-kilometer railway project alone, costs the government P66.5 billion (US$1.33 billion).

“It’s too expensive and impractical,” said Beltran in a press forum.

He said the most practicable transportation project as of this moment is an expressway for the Cagayan de Oro-Iligan corridor “because it is cheaper

The railway is expected to link highly urbanized cities like Cagayan de Oro, Iligan, Zamboanga, Pagadian, Dipolog, Marawi, Cotabato and Davao.

Hi Adrian! Actually, there's no more accounting staff in Metrobank branches. For a new branch, they're looking for tellers, new accounts clerk and clearing clerk only but a background in accounting is an advantage. Since Oroquieta and Ozamiz branches of Metrobank are under the area of Metrobank Zamboanga, officers of newly opened branches are usually sourced from their reserved pool here except for branch head who is usually pirated from another bank in that area. You can apply online and indicate that you want to be assigned at Metrobank-Oroquieta or you can send your complete resume to the Area Head, Metrobank-Veterans Ave. Branch, Veterans Avenue corner Gov. Alvarez St., Zamboanga City. The latter would be the better option since screening of application letters is done by the area head. Hope this will help. Goodluck!:)

Mayor Binay leads opening of OTC

A soft opening and blessing of a multimillion peso flagship project of the Almonte administration was held on October 14, 2011. The project- Oroquieta City Town Center which consists; a one stop shop commercial stalls, refreshment and food establishments, ATM machines , public and private offices, hotel, conference and multipurpose halls, swimming pool, a spacious parking area with modern Integrated Bus and Jeepney Terminal located in Barangay Canubay a 1 kilometer drive from the city proper. It is a P180 million PNB assisted project.
No other than Mayor Jejomar S. Binay Jr. the city Mayor of Makati was the Guest Speaker who was introduced by Oroquieta City Mayor Jason P. Almonte. In his speech he relayed messages from his father VP Jejomar Binay Sr. who is supposed to deliver a keynote speech but prior scheduled speaking engagement with Filipino businessmen in Arizona made him decide to send his mayor son instead. In that message Mayor Binay said that the sisterhood pact between Makati and Oroquieta made Oroquieta City very special to him and his father. It can be recalled that during the incumbency of then Mayor Jorge T. Almonte and Makati Mayor Jejomar Binay Sr. the sisterhood pact was sealed. In his keynote speech the younger Binay remarked, “ Oroquieta has the potential aspects for development considering its location and being a capital city of Misamis Occidental. You have a seaport and a 45 minute drive airport necessary for tourists in coming here.” He also said that as local executive in a prestigious and leading financial hub in the region he can highly recommend Oroquieta to foreign investors for them to invest here.
Meanwhile, 1st district congressman Atty. Jorge T. Almonte stressed, “ We don’t want an idle non-performing property just go to waste. We were able to transform this property into an income generating all in one leisure and business complex, the first of its kind in Misamis Occidental” referring to the site of the town center that was once vacated and left idle for a long span of time by SPDA-Bunotex. He also thanked the people and the LGU of Oroquieta led by his son Mayor Jason P. Almonte.
Another guest speaker Misamis Occidental Gov. Hermie Ramiro shared the same views with the congressman extolled the people to be thankful to have a project like the Oroquieta Town Center. She said that very soon the city will have another multimillion peso centerpiece project- the restoration of the Provincial Sports Complex or the MOPAC Grandstand. The sports complex is a priority flagship project of the Governor with a counterpart of the congressman’s Development Fund. It can be remembered, that MOPAC Grandstand was host to regional and provincial athletic meets before it was razed by fire in 1996.

Yes, you can send your resume via snail mail or LBC if you want it delivered fast. Anyway, for qualified applicants who are in Oroquieta City and nearby areas, you will not be asked to come to Zamboanga. An HR personnel will go there to conduct interviews and examinations for qualified applicants. To be frank, applicants with good personality will definitely be considered for front line positions (tellers & new accounts clerk). Since it will be a new branch, it may start with a few personnel. Ideally, a new Metrobank branch is composed of a branch head, branch operations officer, a teller, a new accounts clerk and a clearing clerk. In case you passed but will not be considered for Oroquieta branch but you are offered to be assigned here or in other Metrobank branches in Zamboanga Peninsula, I suggest you accept it because once additional personnel is needed for Oroquieta branch, you will be given priority if you wish to be transferred. :)

@ Zamboguy. Just a clarification, is Metrobank Ozamiz under the area of Metrobank Zamboanga or is it under the jurisdiction of MBTC Cagayan de Oro? Misamis Occidental is part of Northern Mindanao in which CDO is the regional capital. Most branches of banks operating in the province are under their regional offices located in CDO. I had applied once in a commercial bank in Ozamiz and I was asked to come for a pre-employment examination at CDO.

Metrobank Ozamiz and the soon to open Metrobank Oroquieta are under the Zamboanga Area Office. You may also try to submit your resume to any of the 2 Ozamiz branches. If you do that, be in business attire. You may be interviewed by the manager. :)

Hi Adrian! I'm sorry I can't answer the 1st question. As to your other question, I suggest you submit your resume ASAP as the screening of application letters is already on going. Sending it via LBC or other private courier directly to Zamboanga-Veterans Branch is the best option. Just for your info, the new area head of Metrobank Zamboanga is a Cebuano-speaking former manager of BPI-Ozamiz branch. :)

If you mean help you to be considered for employment, I'm sorry I can't do that. What I can do is give you some tips to increase your chances of passing the screening process. The first thing that the area head will read is your application letter. Make sure that it is very well written. If it contains errors (misspelled words, incorrect grammar), chances are the area head will no longer bother to even peek at your CV. Your academic performance is also very important. The more failing marks you have, the lesser your chances are of being considered. If you can impress the area head with your application letter and transcript of records, you can already expect a call for the schedule of your interview and examinations. Goodluck! :)

The radio commentator suspects the ambush may have had something to do with his constant criticism of Misamis Occidental 2nd District Rep. Leo Ocampos’ businesses in his radio program “Ratsada 1494 - Fight for Change, Kausaban Para sa Tanan”.

On Tuesday, Maestrado had announced on his radio show that he will reveal evidence that the Ocampos' businesses did not have a permit. Despite the ambush attempt, Maestrado still revealed the evidence against Ocampos on his radio show on Wednesday.

Also on Tuesday, the court dismissed a libel case filed by the lawmaker against Maestrado.

Ocampos, for his part, denied having a hand in the attempt to kill Maestrado.

He even suggested Maestrado may have staged the ambush himself. He also said it is also possible many others are angry at Maestrado for his criticisms on his radio show, and alleged lack of ethics as a media person.

Thanks to the "CSI" tv series. SOCO has found a bit of glamour in their role as key investigators. Just look at how proudly they wear their shirts with the big print at the back. Add that lashing commentator with a "dyed hair" and you will have a perfect take for the press. Another day in the life of the press, police, and politics!
