Berlin, the united German capital has a huge boom of skyscrapers constructing in the last years,
The tallest structure in the city is still from Soviet time, but city is more and more building its new face - with skyscrapers and Extra-ordiner architectural buildings like the Reichstag Dome.

Yeah, there is hardly a skyline in Berlin. But there are a few nice skyscraüers at Potsdamer Platz:

What I personally like about Berlin is that the city just offers everything! There are quarters with wounderful expensive houses, there are quarters with hugh ugly appartement blocks, there are parts with great historical buildings but on the other hand some very modern architecture. There are crowded streets but also nice rivers and even pleasent beaches at some of the lakes in Berlin.

Surely an exciting city!

I'm living in Berlin and i say: Berlin has no skyline!
Yes, there are some nice clusters which could be interesting for a 200.000-city, but they can't create a skyline for Berlin.

Berlin is great..
But there are no qualities in highrises..
But there is much space for those i think and also many plans..
Fact is that East-Berlin is the ugliest part of all cities I've seen in my live... one ugly communist-block next to another!
I cant understand how anyone could plan that!
But I give it a 9 because i love Berlin!!

As a city it gets a 10 without doubt, probably my favourite city in Europe. So much happening everywhere there, Potsdamer Platz has come up out of nowhere in the last 6 years or so, that part is a beautiful though small skyline. Alexanderplatz has a gritty urban feel to it and I like it, although I am really looking forward to the new developments to come. As it now stands, the skyline is a bit too dispersed, although the cluster is dense and has some nice height. I hope in future some more height is added....

Don´t know, sorry. But actually most people think that the new architecture of the Reichstag is quite beautiful, a succesful project. A modern element was integrated in the historical building without destroying its character - the dome is a real tourist attraction today - and the Reichstag is now a modern, practical parliament building.

Berlin doesn't have a massive, dazzling skyline but indeed, not every city has to have one. I've never considered Berlin as a "silhouette city", in my opinion Berlin is a perfect example of a street level city. And yes, a city can very well be urban without orgastic high rises.

Okay, this is JUST MY opinion, but I don’t understand why people on here think Berlin “needs” more skyscrapers. I mean it’s a European city and that why people love it. If I want to see skyscrapers, then Berlin is not the place I’m going to go. Also, I don’t think a forest of skyscrapers suits Berlin. It would over power the lovely, smaller building left in its shadow. Actually, if I had my way, most of those taller buildings wouldn’t be there. I’d prefer all the buildings be of similar heights, and for conform to the style and dimensions of the other buildings. But again, that just me!

One simply has to ask the question of "what is a skyline"? If by skyline you mean "highrise" then sure, Berlin is disappointing. However, skyline means more than that and I happen to quite enjoy dense midrise skylines with spires and occasional buidlings poking out all over the place than your average new world city with a section of highrise surrounded by absolutely nothing but single level blergh like I said before.

I spent a week in Berlin, and I have to say that it's much better in person than in these pictures. Potsdamplatz is very nice, although it doesn't fit in with the rest of old East Berlin very well. Nonetheless, the architecture of the city is very nice (except for the apartment commie blocks).

The view from the TV tower is great... especially when eating breakfast up there. :D

Wow, I like this one. 10/10 for Berlin. 100% more urban than lots of cities around the world which have 20 buildings on the downtown but sprawl everywere around. I like european cities style :)

europene skylines suck

Comments like this suck. Maybe an "I don't like europene [sic] skylines" would have been a better option.

wow berlin is great... wide avenues, big park in the centre that's incredible...the "flat" buildings reminds me a lil bit Moscow or Paris sometimes... it's a unique mix i though...i'd love to see more skysrapers at the Postdamer Platz or around... i think that's the perfect place for such structures.

In my opinion a city skyline is successful if it shows an evolution. Berlin is not New York or Dubai.......Nor should it be. It has had a great history, including mayhem by humans. Like a tree that has been badly pruned it recovers recreating major limbs then sprouts new branches, leaves and over time becomes grand again. I am lucky to have spent three weeks in Berlin and viewed the skyline from the Tower in Alexander Platz, The glass dome of the Reichstag and the man made mountain ? beyond the Olympic stadium plus many other vantage points. Berlin is unique and should be proud of that. Evolution.......give it time !
