BIRTH CITY : CIPUTAT ::: Nothing good except very beautiful childhood.... And HERO Supermarket right in front of my housing complex..... Really .... really.... really ...hate the traffic jam there.... It has been existed there since I was just a baby (end of 1980s) ... BANDUNG :: Likes ::: Enjoying cipularang highway ... before entering BANDUNG .. Dislikes::: Beggar, unclean, traffic jam caused by JAKARTANs like me, "real" chaotic to me ... who used to live in small city... BATAM Likes::: spending my elementary years here.... living good and nice.... every month My family always goes to Singapore.... just for windowshopping (it was quite cheap for pre-economy crisis era)v ..... THe view of BARELANG BRIDGE is among the most beautiful sea-view I've ever seen..... I even cant get the same feels when in Bali... THE 2ND coolest airport in INDONESIA rightafter SHIA in JKT..... Even comparing to the new airport built for post-ecomonic crisis era.... Dislike::: UNCLEAN.... UNCLEAN..... UNCLEAN....... Worst PUBLIC TRANSPORT.... hehehe ... most family uses private car here.... so actually nothing's wrong ... JAKARTA Likes::: JAKArtans is very openminded and open-minded people I've ever met... Spending my elementary years here in MENTENG area .... Living in KEBON SIRIH neighborhood and then now living in TOMANG neighborhood.... Malls just amazing .... Public transport is the best ever....in INDONESIA (i said BUSWAY).... Some spot to visit ..... pokoknya asik dehhh..... Always excited being on JAKARTA HIGHWAY.... Dislike ::: TRAFFIC JAM ..... and bla bla bla similar to it ... Massive economy gap I've ever seen in INDONESIA (According to my experience dalam berpindah-pindah .... PALEMBANG Likes::: C'mon nggak afdhol, If come to this city but never try its own PEMPEK ... menghirup CUKO Plembang ... hemmmmm.... I loved MALBI, LAKSAN, RAGIT, .... and many-many-many more..... But the most notable thing is ..... I GAIN MANY FAT HERE (in fact AKU MEMANG DAH GENDUT ... tambah gendut pulak ... hahjahaha) AMPERA Bridge is really massive ... hahaha love it ( :( sayang sekarang warnanya merah ) ... Dislike ::: (I've got to be honest) In this city (which I spend my junior high school era) ... I cant make so many good friends... I dont know why .... But, the most annoying thing in PALEMBANG is the high criminal rate here....(it is the highest rate I've ever discovered dalam pengalamanku berpindah-pindah Palembang is the most UNSAFE city to walk in public area during the night.... (even during the day in some MARKET) ..... It is very scary to take an oplet in TANGGA BUNTUNG or KERTAPATI (considering PALembang's "preman" site.....) ... PEKANBARU Likes ;;; Spending my senior high school era here.... Love it... I made so many friends.... Before I first come to this city (after leaving PALEMBANG), I highly underestimate this city ..... In fact, I discover many good things ..... THE CLEANEST CITY I'VE EVER BEEN in INDONESIA (perfectly maintain even in suburb)...... WIDE AVENUE ....even when this small city comparing with another big city in INDONESIA .... VERY CARE LOCAL GOVERNMENT made me really happy (note: many projects start by the govt)..... PLUS, after I came to this city.... This city starts many new development (of 4 star hotel and malls.... wooohoioooo)... So I really feel how fast It change only from 2003 to 2006 .... Some new roads and lane addition took place in spreading area over PEKANBARU.... The most amazing thing I've discovered is city designing, parks, good drainage system ever, garbage management and HOW govt get rid out of those beggars in ROAD INTERSECTIOn .... To travel from north to south in PEKANBARU will take you to 25 km journey.... while to travel from west to east in PEKANBARU will take you to 19 km journey .... DIslike ::: It is the hottest (in real meaning).... I've ever been .... It is highly recommended to wear a cap when walking down the street..... KULITKU MENJADI GELAP BEGITU PINDAH KE KOTA INI ...pfffff. hate it.... HELP ME>>>>>>>>>> The closest mountainous view is 100+ km while the closest beach view is 200+ km... Can you imagine???? Another way is JUST TRAVEL to propinsi tetangga ... BIAYA HIDUP SANGAT MAHAL DI SINI.... STANDAR HIDUP KETIGA TERTINGGI SETELAH BATAM & JAKARTA ..... Theoritically, there is no unique food originally come from PEKANBARU .... make this city residents become "FRANCHISE"-minded ever ...... Hate it .... I cant stand with those HAZY day ..... Inhaling the air at that time were very difficult..... PEKANBARU annual haze festival (the view is great tho... but made me really100x sick)... TOLONGGGGGGg .... Ohhhh, I'll post the text above in my blogs ...... Nice thread.... uneg2 yang tidak tersampaikan .... rilham2new February 21st, 2007, 05:54 AM Ohh ketinggalan .... MEDAN Likes ::: Have so many realtives here ..... Really cleannnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn.....nice and beautiful downtown..... nice nightlighting.....c'mon JAKARTA masih kalah ama MEDAN kalo soal lampu-lampu di malam hari ..... FOOOODDDDSc ...... :D :D :D :D .... Terutama kawasan KAMPUNG KELINg.... love to have my cuisine-visit there.... hahaha ..... SOTO MEDAN in KESAWAN..... Most of all, I love SOTO UDANG in TEBING TINGGI (my mother birthcity) ... BIkA AMBON, BOLU MERANTI, LAPIS LEGIT .... I guarantee when you visit MEDAN, you wont leave MEDAN emptyhanded without taking some Medan cakes.... Yummy ....hahaha ... My lovely grandma lives in such a nice neighborhood in MEDAN BARU ..... can walk on foot to go to many places.... The malls .... WOW SUN-PLAZA (even it is much better, when I compare with the best shopping centre in JOHOR BAHRU ....)/..... Looks a lot like Mal Taman Anggrek ... Discover multi-story building here... so much ..... Road-scapenya cukup bagus.... Kalo di kawasan pemukiman mewah dekat WOLTER MONGINSIDI .... wuihhh, serasa di SINGAPORE (nggak bercanda .... aku serius .... asli....) JALAN ZAINUL ARIFIn .... the site of OFFICE building .... make it simply like I'm in Jakarta... Dislike ::: The airport is so small .... comparing to its busy traffic..... FYI, this airport even only a bit larger than SSK II airport in PEKANBARU and much.... much ... much.... smaller than HANG NADIM BATAM .... TRAFFIC JAM.... Kesawan and area near BPD Sumut...... discover by yourself lah ..... Ini yang paling mengerikAn..... paw25694 February 21st, 2007, 10:19 AM Kehidupan berpindah-pindah made me discover some new things in the new city.... new friend ... different attitude of person ... every single city I lived before .... ..... LA (los angeles, bukan lenteng agung), sayang jauh. dislike: 1. surabaya, reason: freakin' hot there 2. bogor, reason: jenuh & traffic 3. luxembourg, bikin bete..!! pengen kesana lagi ga kesampean... !!! materialistus August 23rd, 2007, 11:12 AM places i've lived in di indinesia : Malang/Surabaya (mid to late 80s). i was small and barely remembered. Malang at the time was relatively pleasant compare to other indo cities. it was clean, quaint, colonial, with adequate amenities and green spaces. i think the tempreature was alot lower then as i still remember the fogs in city centre in the mornings. most of the infrastructures were originals from the dutch period. so it felt more like living in a small european town. with the original bakeries, restaurants, cinema, apotek, etc. in the area where we lived, behind the museum, there was an unkept park & reservoir called beatrix park. I also remember the zwembad with some of the original parasols and furnitures in the balcony café. The local military airport had Merpati flight to Jakarta & Bali. There was no traffic and even the kampongs along the brantas river were clean with the whitewashed houses more reminiscent of greek/portoguesse villages than slum. But unfortunately, things has changed since for the worse. And I wouldn’t call it my hometown now. It’s a hometown lost. Denpasar (early 90s) briefly before our escape. Even bali was a lot cleaner then and more original then. This was before it became the ‘in’ place amongst European and Ozzies during mid 90s. we lived in around seminjak. there were less tourism business then. Most of the Balinese were still concentrated on original way of life. Which I guess what most tuourists came for. But i remember it was a bit too hot, and because air conditioning was quite expensive at the time, we only had one in the living room. it was hell. ha... ha... ha...I don't think can you live without air conditioning in indonesia ! XxRyoChanxX August 23rd, 2007, 08:56 PM manado/minahasa- openminded people, family oriented, and you can go to tomohon for some cool air. bunaken for some relaxing time, I just remember having fun living there. LA (Los angeles)-I like the fact that you meet different type of people here in LA, it's diverse, I love The beach and the weather is not so bad either :) icracked August 24th, 2007, 02:14 AM Likes (I didn't include all the cities that I liked such as Tokyo, Singapore etc..) Honolulu, Hawaii - VERY clean, safe, friendly people, tons of shopping malls (also home to the World's biggest open air mall), great public transportation, TONS of things to do, stable weather that's not too hot nor cold average is 74 degrees year round, some of the World's best beaches, centered in the middle of the Pacific ocean which means tons of nice trade winds, very diverse although majority of the people here are Japanese decent, and Honolulu is the only major U.S. city that has free health insurance for all citizen 0-19 years old. Dislike (I didn't include all the cities that I dislike ) San Francisco, California - Too dirty for me, too many homeless and druggies, crappy public bus transportation but the light-rain/heavy-rail system is some of the best, sometime it gets cold (last winter it was 34-45degrees F). Also I hated my roommates there which makes me dislike SF more. Oakland.California- A gangster paradise although the Downtown of Oakland is extremely clean and tidy. Outside of downtown Oakland, everything looked worn downed, graffiti and just plain trashy. Kona,Hawaii- Absolutely nothing to do. Its a town where things move by very slow, nothing really happens at all. There's no malls or anything, just little shops here and there and a black sand beach nearby. Boring town. materialistus August 24th, 2007, 11:52 AM Agree! Honolulu was no.9 on Monocle liaveble cities waaaay above Singapore (at #17). But then I thought this thread was for places in Indonesia only ???? anyway. Honolulu facts : Population: 380,000. International flights: over 200 international flights to 27 destinations, plus domestic connections. Crime rates: murders,15; domestic break-ins, 6,209 (2005). State education: school system is underfunded. The main debate among lawmakers is whether the centralized state-run system, the only of its kind in the US, should be maintained. Two universities serve the island's 53,000 students. Health care: Hawaiians boast longer life-expectancy rates than anywhere else in the US. Eight hospitals offer excellent care. Sunshine: annual average, 2,830 hours. Temperature: in January the average temperature is 23C, in July 27C. Wired: a number of hotels and internet cafés offer free or cheap access, but the city is by no means a wireless hub. Tolerance: in the 1990s mixed marriages between the island's diverse ethnic communities began to outnumber unions between partners of the same ethnicity, increasing diversity and blurring racial lines. Also offers same-sex benefits. Drinking and shopping: from exotic tropical drinks in kitsch tourist traps to cocktails beneath beachside cabanas, Honolulu can sate anyone's thirst. Most bars are open until 02.00, clubs are open until 04.00. The Japanese market means there's a high-number of luxury goods stores. Transport: a $5.2 billion (€4billion) fixed rail system is in the works. Honolulu has the best bus network in America, and few taxis. The city has purchased 40 environmentally friendly buses equipped with GPS systems, which will cut fuel costs by over 20 per cent. Local media: Honolulu has two dailies and one weekly paper, all of which reflect a narrow local focus. The same is true for the city's magazines and television stations. International media: a selection of international dailies and magazines are available at a few newsstands and hotels. Green space: though the city has few parks, its environs comprise one of the most magnificent natural spaces in the US. Access to nature: has access to little else. Environmental initiatives: the city is embarking on an ambitious programme to modernize waste management, reduce its reliance on landfills, and limit the effects of waste water on the island's ecosystems by replacing the decrepit sewer system. Monocle metrics: bungalows by Vladimir Ossipoff, short flying time to Japan, excellent weather and boundless opportunities in a variety of sectors could make anyone take to wearing a muu-muu. ace4 August 24th, 2007, 11:54 AM let me try...
