Well it starts on March 11th or is it 13th?

Micheal Holding came out yesterday saying that non test nations should not participate in the World Cup & are just making the tournament very long, which is true, but you gotta give the guys a chance, not all the countrys in the world play the sport so its nice they get a chance to play in the BIG stage, plus they might pull of some surprises.

SA team has asked for their training venue to be changes cos of the surface of the pitch, it was making all the balls bounce head high for the batsmen, so they got more head practice than batting practice :D

Well, nearly TWO upsets after the first round of the warm-up matches. The ICC doesnt regard these as full ODI status games, so no new records can be set...

Poms thrashed Bermuda
WI beat Kenya by 21 runs
SL beat Scotland by 159 runs
Newly crowned number 1 team in the world SA nearly was beaten by Ireland:lol:

Bangladesh beat NZ
Aus beat Zim by 106 runs
India beat Netherlands by 182 runs
Pak beat canada by 77 runs

Is it just me or is this tournament looking looking like a disaster? Explosions in hotels. Planes crashing next to Oz training field. Earthquake. Bad pitches. Incomplete stadia. Shock warm up results.

What next? Rioting? Zimbabwe winning the WC? All teams except windies sent home for excessive ganja intake?

Earthquakes? ^^

Anything's possible. Anything except Zim winning. (Although in the two ODI matches I've attended in my life, Zimbabwe won both. But that was before Mugabe really did his damage.)

Doomsday or negativity? Dursboi got the spirit of cricket.:) Oh well, one thing for sure Zimbabwe would not win the wc, or even get out of Group D. And SA and AUS meet march 24, im glad its on a saturday which means + 15 hours for Sydney time! that way i can sleep all sunday...

Oh well, one thing for sure Zimbabwe would not win the wc, or even get out of Group D.

I wish Zim still fielded a good side. Even 6 or 7 years ago they were capable of almost anything. In 2000 I saw Zim defeat SA (now that was a shocker to 20,000 screaming & drunk folks at Kingsmead!) and West Indies in ODIs. And it was wonderful when they beat India in Harare in 2001 in a Test.

If they were even 75% as strong now as they were then, perhaps they could win one match against the WIndies or Pakistan, and maybe cause a little havoc in Group D. Unfortunately, they're not even a shadow of what they once were. :ohno:

Although I'll cheer for SA, if the Proteas falter, I'd like to see the Windies win. There's something magical when a side wins on home soil.

What sucks most is that I can't actually watch the matches because the US TV rights were sold to a satellite company, and I use cable. :ohno: (Even if we had a satellite, I doubt my wife would let me spend $200 to order the World Cup.)

Windies playing Pakistan today in the first game?

Predictions anyone?

I dont trust Pakistan, there form leading up to the WC was pretty woefull, but that can all change in a flash & they showed us this before. Windies have home advantage & it is the first game, so Im expecting them to do the job, but dont be surprised if Pakistan steal it.

Well the young stars of the windies helped beat Pakistan by 54 runs at Sabina Park, Kingston. Samuels top scored with 63 and man-of-the-match Dwayne Smith got 32 runs and took 3-36 of 10 overs with the ball. Not bad start for the hosts.

The official attendance was not released, but not sure if it beat 24 222 at Newlands for the 2003 wc opener....but still a great atmosphere that is missed in oz, where there is more drunks than drums:)

Woolmer has been Pakistan's coach since June 2004 © Getty Images

Bob Woolmer, the Pakistan coach, has died din a Kington hospital after being found unconscious in his hotel room hours after his side's elimination from the World Cup. He was 58.

Although Woolmer played 19 Tests for England, it was as an international coach he really made his mark, first with South Africa and then, after a spell as the ICC's High Performance Manager, with Pakistan.

Born in India, Woolmer made his mark in a strong Kent side in the 1970s as an allrounder, a pugnacious middle-order batsman and medium-paced seamer. Although his England career was just getting started when he joined World Series Cricket, there were already signs that his early promise was not going to be fulfilled.

Police are now treating Bob Woolmer's death as suspicious, Mark Shields, the deputy commissioner of police, told a news conference in Jamaica.

"We have already informed the Woolmer family of these developments," Shields said. "Having met with the pathologists, our medical personnel and investigators, there is now sufficient information to continue a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of Mr Woolmer, which we are now treating as suspicious."

Pervez Mir, the Pakistan Cricket Board spokesman, told AFP: "The police suspect that Woolmer may have been murdered. They have started an investigation." Unconfirmed reports suggested there had been signs of strangulation.

Shields said the police had been in close contact with the Pakistan team management, the Cricket World Cup committee and the ICC, but he would not speculate on the cause of Woolmer's death. "It would be inappropriate for me to make any comment at this stage as we have still not got the final official report from the pathologists," he said.

Talat Ali, the Pakistan team manager, told Geo TV they had not been given full details by the police. "They have not made any reference to poisoning or anything yet, as some reports are suggesting," Ali said. "There is no information at all that this poison could be involved. Investigations will carry on so we cannot come to any conclusions right now."

Ali denied Pakistan were not allowed to travel. "There are no police restrictions on the team," he said. "As planned for now, we are flying back on Saturday."

Woolmer, 58, was found unconscious in his hotel room on Sunday and pronounced dead shortly after at a Jamaica hospital. Woolmer's family said after speaking to doctors they expected his death came from a stress-related heart attack. An autopsy completed on Tuesday was inconclusive, but investigators were waiting for the results of toxicology tests to see if they helped determine the cause.

Woolmer murder: No arrests yet

Jamaican police have categorically denied on Skynews that any arrests have been made in connection with the murder of former Pakistan and South Africa coach Bob Woolmer on Friday morning.

This is contrary to reports aired by New Delhi Television who indicated that a man was being held in custody by the Jamaican police.

"I don't know where that's come from. That's nonsense, as far as I'm concerned. There's actually no truth in that," said Jamaica's deputy commissioner Mark Shields.

"I can unequivocally dismiss that, unless someone's given themselves up in India and we don't know about it, but I think that's highly unlikely."

A murder inquiry was launched into the death of Woolmer after a post mortem revealed that the world reknowned coach was strangled.

The 57-year-old was found dead in his hotel room last weekend, a day after Pakistan had been eliminated from the World Cup by minnows Ireland.

Man, how close was that match??? SA almost snatched defeat from the jaws of victory. Stopped breathing there several times. But what brilliant bowling from Sri Lankan whiz, Lasith Malinga, at the end! 4 out in 4 balls and one ball at the end that almost ended everything and missed the stumps by millimetres! That 4 in a row must surely be a World Record or WC record.

Yes Roman, u right it is a new WC record, his the first dude in WC history to take 4 wickets in 4 consecutive balls.

Please tell this is some kind of sick joke, because its not fucking funny anymore! Why is Justin Kemp in the squad? he is in my opinion the biggest WASTE in the squad! Either Dale Beikenstien or Niel Mckenzie, as for leaving out Andrew Hall, that was the biggest bullet in the foot, then the 1 that when right through was US putting them into bat first!

April 8th, 2007, 07:39 AM
You know...I am an avid supporter of Australia; but deep inside I still feel for South Africa. I remember how they were a cricketing superpower in the 90s under Cronje and had an excellent batting order with the likes of Cullinan, Kirsten, Cronje etc. I even remember the contributions from Rhodes, Kallis, Klusener etc. But somehow, they have never had the luck of succeeding when it mattered most, i.e. the World Cups.

I know times have changed & the players are different, different bowlers, Graeme Smith as captain etc. They are still a force to be reckoned with - but whenever I see their batsmen struggle and the lower-order tries to rescue the team, it reminds me of the South African team of the late 90s under Cronje.

Very hard-working team, very committed and spirited - but their batting simply never clicked when they really needed it. I just hope they do some serious regrouping and work out their batting so that they can at least make it to the Finals of this WC.

Q-TIP

Aus next play Ireland, SL, and NZ, so some interesting movements about the top can occur.

SA next plays WI, NZ and Poms and cant really afford to drop a game, if they want to avoid australia in a semi-final clash again:lol:

NZ next plays Ireland, SL, SA and Australia, and are the only other team undefeated in the world cup.

SL plays NZ, australia, and Ireland, and face a similar path to australia, with some possible things to go wrong.

These four will be in the semis, but in what order is interesting. I can only see australia dropping out by losing a semi-final, coz once australia gets to a final, it is even harder to beat the team on that day...

Then god only knows why they took Telemachus & Bosman along, they just having a brilliant fucking holiday free of charge! Brutal. Thats one word of describing the win last night. Well, this was the wake-up call Ntini needed. SA have 7 days to rethink tactics for the semi against Pontings boys. Wonder if Ntini will be included?

What a fucking game, please god, please let this forms stay for us,
& Brad, I dont think you the hoodoo, I think the SA team just cant play on a Sat, coz all the matches we have lost so far has been on Saturdays!!!!!

Credit to Andrew Hall, I said it from the beginning, the pitches in the windies suited his type of bowling, & last night was proof of this, Ntini just hasnt come to the party in the tournament, maybe his thinking of his baby at home.
Also Pollock bowled brilliantly yesterday, I hope he starts getting some wickets now. I still rate him as the best in the world.

anyway

Semi finals HERE WE COME! HALL & ALL!!!!

ITS GOING TO BE 1999 ALL OVER AGAIN & THIS TIME WE WONT HAVE DONALD TO FUCK THINGS UP!

Martsbra

hehe poor donald!

If we'd won the semi against NZ/SL, im sure we would have played aus in the finals anyway, so good luck to the boys! I hope Ntini got a wake up call but these wickets dont suit him! As soon as we get a pitch that suits us-we're brillliant! I think its a good thing we playing aus on a slow low pitch, as opposed to NZ/SL who have good slow blowlers and medium pacers that are difficult to get away. And cross fingers we beat aus, then we return to the fantastic fast and bouncy wicket to scuttle out NZ/SL! (in a perfect world)

I think smith just stop saying "fantastic" when he gets interviewed and smoke a few joints, coz he is way too serious! But well batted smithy!

Oh and I didnt watch the game yesterday! (l listened...)
