View Full Version : Dashwood House reclad | City of London | 73m | 19 fl
PFarrey February 18th, 2008, 10:53 PM When you see this in person I think it looks very nice. Looking at the over run I doubt they ever had intentions to try and hide whats behind it. It also gives the building that extra floor's worth of soar. Anyway I prefer this to the dark crown that we got with Willis. Its worth looking at the render london lad posted at the start of the thread, the over run was always going to be transparent. I like the way this has turned out.

BeestonLad February 19th, 2008, 12:39 AM It looks like they could put the cladding over the existing concrete columns in the corner, are they going to do this? I think it would look better. Looking at the renders above its hard to tell what the plan is, but I suppose if they were to do this then they would have already done so?
Horizon911 February 19th, 2008, 12:51 AM The facade overun hasn't been completed and its clear, in the pic above, that the glass hasn't been installed on the overun part where the crane is. When all the glass has been installed, the plant and machinery works will be almost hidden, at least to a untrained eye.
cstubbies February 19th, 2008, 12:51 AM a few pics from above

LostJohnny February 19th, 2008, 01:31 PM nice one! Great to see it from above!
milkymilky February 19th, 2008, 09:06 PM Looking a lot better but those corners are still niggling, they're gonna look even more obvious when it's complete
rickster2k February 19th, 2008, 10:32 PM ...and as Darren said the light glass on the overrun just looks like a big fence around the top.
mulattokid February 20th, 2008, 10:25 AM ^^ To be fair, it also appears like that on the above renders.
nice pics btw :)
ill tonkso February 20th, 2008, 01:06 PM ^^To be fair, it IS a giant fence :p

LostJohnny February 20th, 2008, 11:39 PM If only. Ah well, looks nice in the sunlight- Today from behind the Heron tower site.

Salad Fingers February 25th, 2008, 03:34 PM Here's how it's looking now from the Barbican... A few months difference between these before/after pics:

There's something else going up in this pic (between the two Barbican towers), but I'm not sure what it is? Whatever it is, it's slow progress... Anyone know? thanks

Salad Fingers February 26th, 2008, 10:02 AM Ah yes - guess it must be, thanks.
DarJoLe February 28th, 2008, 06:58 PM All done now. Just a couple of stray panels to replace and a buff and polish and she's ready on the outside.

Do building reconstruction projects exen top out?
Anyway, it won't be long before the new exterior is completed.

I suppose on this occasion it would apply, the building had 4 storeys added to make it look a little less stumpy.
sam-whit-kid March 6th, 2008, 10:20 PM when i went on my school trip to the docklands we stopped at a station and i looked out the window up to the sky by chance and we were straight underneath this building! it looks fantastic to me. i like it in the pictures but now i like it even more!
snail456 March 7th, 2008, 07:34 PM arn't SKANSKA breaking the law by putting their company name at the top of the tower lol.

Technically yes, a breach of contract with the CoL 'skyline advertising' code.

There are a few at Straford and the big re-build over the bus station at Chelmsford that do it too - maybe the laws have changed or been relaxed?
The base of the building (which I didn't get any shots of today) still remains unclad and appears very much under construction still :

Ah the law only applies to the Square Mile.
milkymilky March 14th, 2008, 12:15 AM The facade overrun is looking a lot better now its completed and uniform
wearethefuture March 14th, 2008, 12:26 AM Double post, sorry, please delete.
wearethefuture March 14th, 2008, 12:26 AM I agree, i think on the whole this building has turned out really well (although i liked the old facade), has a kind of optical illusion with the lighter panels going on which i like, nice little touch of colour here and there, overall a nice an improvemment on the skyline.
NothingBetterToDo March 14th, 2008, 01:48 AM I like the facade overrun - but overall the cladding looks a state.
The different corner cladding is major schoolboy error - and the lighter coloured glass panels just look messy.
potto March 14th, 2008, 08:46 AM I noticed the render sheen the other day in the bright sun after a storm, the cladding overrun is the only guaranteed good bit though, i quite like the overrun appearing much lighter as it highlights the fronds like an aquatic organism
milkymilky April 6th, 2008, 11:28 PM couple of shots from today, not much has changed. Looks OK from a distance as a background building but not impressive close up really

chest April 7th, 2008, 12:12 AM looks fine, all part of the 'extreme makeover' the City is currently undergoing, though I think the Stock Exchange Tower reclad has had the most dramatic effect, a miserable grey building that seemed to suck the whole life out of the whole skyline has been transformed in to something glossy and new...cheers for all the photos today.
TomD'07 April 7th, 2008, 11:12 AM thanks for the photos; i wish the stone cladding on the corners went all the way up though, but it still looks fresh and clean, a good background building.
lath April 7th, 2008, 03:25 PM On the latest renders of heron tower, dashwood house is on some of them and seems to have some multi coloured fins added to the glazing. Also on the latest photos of dashwood house there seems to be slots in the sides of the glazing, which i originally thought was just bad detailing. Does anyone know if the fins will be added, i have not seen any renders with them.

fitz44 June 13th, 2008, 06:44 PM Ah the forgotten tower! Thanks Luke great composition - but unfortunately this is turning out a bit dull when compared to all the other developments going on.
jimbo June 14th, 2008, 05:21 PM this reclad and conversion really has been super speedy. Great work by Skanska. Now they can move across the road and get cracking on Heron.
chest June 14th, 2008, 09:35 PM I actualy quite like this..along with the Stock Exchange etc its all part of the masive makeover of the City

sam-whit-kid June 15th, 2008, 12:41 AM im a fan of reclads. there the only way you can be certian there will still be a building about with a little height or soar, and thay always look better afterwards!
ferge June 15th, 2008, 12:53 AM This ones turned out superb, I reckon... I might actually prefer it to the stock exchange reclad, because this one seems a little more subtle and not as.. gleamingly new
fitz44 July 5th, 2008, 07:19 PM http://i202.photobucket.com/albums/aa278/fit3xl/london/various061.jpg
Sitback July 5th, 2008, 09:23 PM Well I think it's fucking hideous.
jayo July 5th, 2008, 09:27 PM I quite like this.
Doesn't stand out or give a big empression on the skyline.
Like a filler really?
:)
ill tonkso July 6th, 2008, 01:09 AM I like it but it looks like a boring version of Birminghams Snow Hill Offices.
NothingBetterToDo July 6th, 2008, 01:13 AM Well I think it's fucking hideous.
I agree - the random strips of lighter cladding really add to overall crappy nature of the building :|
JDRS July 7th, 2008, 01:49 AM Hmm, not quite the Stock Exchange reclad is it.
gazzab1990 July 7th, 2008, 11:24 AM But I wouldn't call it hideous (assuming its the first tower you see between the Gherkin & Tower 42 when exiting Liverpool St. Station by McDonalds?) I couldn't really see the different coloured cladding, its an OK block that's clean & inoffensive. I liked it before the reclad anyway.
NothingBetterToDo July 17th, 2008, 02:31 AM ^^ Yep - here is the view when you exit Liverpool Street station
http://img292.imageshack.us/img292/3237/dashwoodvx0.jpg
dirtydog July 17th, 2008, 10:08 AM I think it looks hideous from some angles yet somewhat okay from others. I think using clear glass for the overrun is a big mistake, and quite inexplicable. Overall I think it is rather shoddy, especially given its prime location.
DarJoLe September 23rd, 2008, 12:30 AM I believe we have ourselves a completed project.

twilight_2008 September 23rd, 2008, 01:18 AM Nice picture. Broadgate also looks stunning in this.
potto September 23rd, 2008, 01:47 PM It has turned out ok. Far more fluid in appearance than before which is a good thing as the Victorian terrace below stands out more. Creates a bit more drama as you come out of Liverpool St. again another positive. Thats about it though.
GazKinz October 12th, 2008, 10:38 PM One more for the record

GazKinz October 12th, 2008, 10:58 PM Yep, the foyer has been all kitted out too.
Medo October 12th, 2008, 11:13 PM Job done nicely, I don't even remember what it looked like before the reclad. :D
wjfox October 12th, 2008, 11:30 PM Great, I'll move the thread.

I like this. I think the glazing is slick, and I don't mind the opaque panels, they aren't too overpowering IMO. Same goes for the coloured stripes, hard to notice them from far away, but up close they add a little bit extra to the scheme that makes it more interesting. Considerably better for the area IMO.
Luke October 14th, 2008, 08:14 PM Any shots of the ground floor/entrance?
wjfox May 15th, 2009, 09:43 PM http://www.willfox.com/images/skyscrapers/dashwoodhouse/5.jpg
ferge May 16th, 2009, 02:21 PM Great shot there, Will.. Almost something quite continental about it, a little Frankfurt-like (well, never been so probably not, lol). They make a great trio, I'm presuming Heron will start to appear in this view with time? Will it be behind 99Bishopgate from here or behind the left tree?
NothingBetterToDo May 16th, 2009, 08:11 PM Good pic, an excellent reclad next to a rubbish one.

Actually, Heron will appear some way off to the left. You can already see it if you walk a bit further to the right.
