View Full Version : Melbourne SKyline in Ghost Rider
MG2 February 22nd, 2007, 12:16 AM Hey guys!
I know it's a big budget blockbuster with no brains type movie but has anyone been to see Ghost Rider yet? The storyline may not have been that great but backdrop, the sets and CGI was awesome and well worth seeing on the big screen. All you Melbourne poeple need to go watch it as well, you'll spend most of the time doing the 'Oh, I know where that is!!'
Melbourne really scrubbed up well, I'm so proud!! Already talk of a Ghost Rider II which, judging by the comments made by the director and producers about the location of filming, should also pretty much guarantee Melbourne and Central City Studios with another blockbuster.
Highlights include the Telstra Dome stunt scene, the footbridge and Yarra cop chase, the skyline shots and the Rialto featuring quite prominantly in one sequence :)

Grollo February 22nd, 2007, 12:41 AM It is a pity that the movie has got such terrible reviews.
KJBrissy February 22nd, 2007, 12:43 AM Yeah, the only reason I'd see it was to try and pick out the landmarks!
MG2 February 22nd, 2007, 01:03 AM That's the only reason I went to see it too but to be honest I was entertained the whole way through, which certainly surprised me. I'm sure it had alot more to do with the special effects than the storyline but it did have it's moments :)
Important thing is it set a US Presidents weekend box office record raking in over $60 million in it's first weekend which almost guarantees it a sequal to be shot most likely in Melbourne again :)

lol average review of 28%. At least its better than Norbit.
AUboy February 22nd, 2007, 02:44 AM Horrible reviews, but it's number one at the box office in the US. The production costs of the movie has already been made up apparently.
tayser February 22nd, 2007, 06:27 AM $45,000,000 on first weekend in the US according to www.boxofficemojo.com
eh let's face it, people will go watch shit (like me! I had to keep reminding myself that I'm 'watching a comic book')...
wowsim February 22nd, 2007, 06:34 AM It took $2.5m in its first weekend here, which is a very good start too.

shaggers_jr February 22nd, 2007, 07:46 AM I find it very distracting to wacth films made in Australia, especially Sydney. All I can see is my neighbourhood. It makes the suspension of disbelief quite difficult when Keanu Reeves is flying past the MLC tower.

I was just saying the same thing to a friend over email re: Ghost Rider....
Eureka! February 22nd, 2007, 08:11 AM I would like to see it just to point oput all the stuff. Good to hear another Aussie movie made number one in the US. Happy feet and now Ghost Rider.
Just find this. if you look closely at the background you can see the collins twins. you have to go up high to see them.
tayser February 22nd, 2007, 11:58 AM was the motorbike on the roof scene on top of 140W?
the bike tears the shit through Rialto's facade, but I couldn't pick that rooftop scene.
(lawl). :)
MG2 February 22nd, 2007, 11:53 PM Not sure which rooftop it was, but was able to pick out most of the other scenes. Great to hear it topped the box office. Final figures for the long weekend in the US were $52 mil, the largest opener for six months and Cage's most successful opening weekend by about $15 mil. It was number 1 not only in the US and Australia but also in 21 of the 24 countries where it was realeased this week. If next weekends taking are still strong we're pretty much guaranteed a sequal which is exciting :)

Qantas743 February 25th, 2007, 02:11 AM If they make a Ghost Rider II, I'm sure that Eurka would be used somehow.
Drunkill February 25th, 2007, 03:28 PM Eureka was used, didn't catch it in the movie, but in the trailer you see it. It's still got about 30 meters of the core exposed, but it's lit up.
It was pretty crap TBH, even for an action-y flick there was not much action. And the camera techniques were oh-so laughable, the spaghetti western zooms and dutch-cuts. I lol'd
I saw it with a few firends and two didn't realise it was in melbourne till they saw Telstra domes roof opening.
If they actually has a script, not some horribly disfigured book of Faust lying around on set, it could have been good. better.
auslankan February 25th, 2007, 09:38 PM Its about the money and in that department is doing very nicely, Its not an art film just one taken from a kids comic book so what do you expect for christs sake?.

AUboy February 28th, 2007, 05:44 AM A sequel to also be filmed in Melbourne was announced on Feb 9
tayser February 28th, 2007, 07:28 AM http://www.boxofficemojo.com/movies/?id=ghostrider.htm
$120,000,000USD worldwide so far.
Amaruu February 28th, 2007, 10:33 PM Sheesh bugger the Melbourne scenes, who is the babe in the movie? She is on the link above, she looks hot.
tayser March 5th, 2007, 04:32 AM Salaam Namaste: lol x 3.
MG2 March 5th, 2007, 05:00 AM The chick is Eve Mandes! $120mil so far! That's great, surpasing the movies production budget.
And I watched Slam Namaste last night, or the first hour of it! I was surprised at the quality of filming! The city looked amazing and they used so many locations! The story was hilarious to the point that it was entertaining. I'm gonna buy it to add to my collection :)
Blabbyboy March 7th, 2007, 03:55 AM are you sure the sequel was announced? i haven't heard that, and i thought that the state government would make a big hoo har about a sequel being filmed in melbourne.
mg2, if you like melbourne in movies, you just have to get that ridiculous jackie chan film Mr Nice Guy which was filmed in Melbourne in the mid 90s!
A r c h i March 7th, 2007, 07:38 AM I love Mr Nice Guy.
Qantas743 March 12th, 2007, 11:29 AM Saw Ghost Rider last night! The storyline and acting is pretty shit but I loved some of the scenes of Melbourne, especially when they do the fly over Collins St looking down over Collins Place and the Rialto. I loved the shot of the entire Eastern End of the CBD at night as well!
