The facade is nice. I like how they used glass, stone, and metal. And even if it does look boring, you have to admit that PBCom bulks up Makati's skyline.

i like the one with reflecting top.
i've been there monday last week. my workmate has to borrow something but i didn't want to drop by at the office so we agreed to meet at PB Com for a dinner. use the backdoor. there's a separate set of elevators for the parking levels and foodcourt. no need for ID. just tell the guard where you're going just in case he asks. i have some night photos from the outdoor area but i haven't uploaded them yet. perhaps tonight? and of course, Mandy will be there to tour us around...(around: meaning upper floors)...right Normand?

this is a question I posted before in the old threads... I think it was in January that there were news that PBCom bank will be undergoing a merger... I think it was Prudential Bank which is buying PBCom.... I'm not sure of the current status of that merger though.. but do you think that PBCom Tower will change its name after the buy out?

anyways... here's a shot that I took of it about 3 years ago...

@pau_p1...

Prudential Bank was bought by BPI with BPI as the surviving entity.

Philtrust Bank made an offer to buy PBCom a few months ago. However, one of the 3 major owners of PBCom - the Luy family, did not agree to the deal and a tender offer was also a failure. Both have already made their official disclosures to the Phil Stock Exchange and the media about this.

Francis20
March 4th, 2007, 04:55 PM
you mean Equitable-PCI? Quite unlikely for BPI to enter into a buy-out option. gusto nila maungusan ang Metrobank in terms of assets. so malamang sila ang bibili ng banks.

baka East-west bank ang bibili sa PB Com. Hula lang. But it should be a relatively large bank. In fact, I also heard that RCBC is also planning a merger with another bank. Think of RCBC plaza named with something else.

Francis20
March 4th, 2007, 04:56 PM

baka East-west bank ang bibili sa PB Com. Hula lang. But it should be a relatively large bank.

Philtrust Bank has failed in its attempt to buy PBCom.

Allied Bank is the next known potential buyer of PBCom. Allied Bank's Lucio Tan and PBCom's Luy family are relatives by marriage.

Eastwest Bank is not in the equation. You may have thought of Eastwest Bank because PBCom Tower is a joint development of PBCom and Filinvest Asia Corporation (jv of Filinvest Devt Corp and Reco Herrera Pte., Ltd.). Filinvest Devt Corp and Eastwest Bank are both owned by Andrew Gotianun.

Ortigas & Co. to build RP’s tallest structure; expansion plan bared (http://www.bworldonline.com/BW090108/content.php?id=043)

PROPERTY DEVELOPER Ortigas & Co. Ltd. Partnership is erecting in Pasig City what it hopes to become the country’s tallest building.

The 75-storey structure will rise on a one-hectare property in Ortigas Center, Deputy Chief Operating Officer and Shopping Center Division Head Joselito F. Santos said in an interview last week.

One Galleon Place will become the country’s tallest building, beating the 52-storey PBCom Tower in Makati and the world’s eighth tallest building, the 69-storey Shun Hing Square in Shenzhen, China.

Mr. Santos said the skyscraper would be divided into two portions — the upper half dedicated to a five-star hotel and the lower half for office units.

No date has yet been given for the project. "It is in the plan. As of the moment, we are still concentrating on our other projects," Mr. Santos said.

The Ortigas group also plans to start the second phase of renovating Greenhills Shopping Center in San Juan by 2010, as it adds at least 50,000 square meters more to its 100,000-square meter floor area.

"We plan to have a bigger Greenhills [by setting up] new buildings and having better amenities. We plan to invite brands like Mango and Zara although we are not going high-end with our stores," Mr. Santos said.

The company also wants to widen the space of the mall’s bazaars, which he said gives Greenhills its unique identity.

Aside from expanding Greenhills, Ortigas & Co. is also expanding the Music Museum by 2010 so it can have up to 1,000 seats where plays, concerts and other performing arts can be held. Construction will start next year, Mr. Santos said.

Like other property developers that have diversified into the outsourcing industry, Mr. Santos said the company would start the construction of two of four business process outsourcing (BPO) buildings at Tiendesitas in Pasig by the fourth quarter.

The company earlier disclosed a plan to build four BPOs at the Tiendesitas complex to take advantage of the growing demand for office units from the outsourcing industry. "Demand is still strong," he added.

The four-storey BPO buildings will stand on a 20,000-square meter property. The first two buildings are expected to start operating by the first quarter of 2010.

"We hope to start the construction of the third and fourth buildings by the middle of next year," Mr. Santos said.

"The BPOs will not compete with the residential buildings although they have become a bigger component of the company’s business portfolio," he added.

The company earlier said that it was spending P15 billion over the next decade to convert a 12-hectare property in Quezon City into a mixed-use community.

The project, which will target the middle-income market, will consist of residential condominium units and townhouses.

It will have 5,000 units in low- and high-rise buildings, with price tags ranging from P2.5 million to P3 million per unit.

The first phase of the project will involve the construction of five buildings this year. — K.J.R. Liu

I heard the top 5 floors of PBCom aren't occupied. Is this true or it's just a rumor?

it depends. if you are reffering to the spire/antenna, then it's true. it's not a liveable floor. but if you are referring to the top 5 lievable floors, then it's not true. 53rd floor is occupied. i guess by Mitsubishi and a subsidiary or was that 52nd?

PBCom Tower is located on Ayala Ave in Makati's central business district (CBD). PBCom Tower holds the record for being the tallest building in the Philippines. As of 2008, it is 98th in the world. This 52 storey high building has an 8 level radio tower. The building was a joint development project of Filinvest Asia Corporation (FAC) and the Philippine Bank of Communications. PBCom is one of the oldest banks in the country. The whole building was designed by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill, LLP. The exterior is double glazed that created curtain walls reflecting a fusion of art and function. The interiors are mixed with glass, stones and metal.

8/10

9/10 for being the country's tallest scraper.
7/10 the design was a bit boring. No 'wow' factor.

i Used to work on the 17th floor of PBCom Tower... Beautiful tower, inside-out! Simple. Sleek. Love the glass curtain facade. I didn't have the chance to go to the top floors though :( I'm not sure what company occupies the uppermost floors, but I'm pretty sure they have a great view of the metro! :)

and by the way, most of the tenants at PBCom are either Banks or BPO companies (Call Centers).. hehe :)

Unfortunately the highest floor of PBCom that I was able to go to was just the 40th floor (i had a job interview).. Sana lang talaga magtayo din sa Philippines ng legit na Tall Building, like KL's Petronas Towers or Taiwan's Taipei101.. yung tipong office tower talaga na maihahambing mo sa notable skyscrapers around the globe.. yung Gramercy nmn kasi residential bldg and so far di ko talaga type yung design kasi walang dating.. mas okay pa din yung PBCom Tower.. Kung pwede nga sana gawa sila ng World Trade Center dito sa Pinas like that of New York City's wherein multinational and local companies could rent office space since I've noticed as the years go by companies from all over the world ay nagsisi-invest na dito or nagtatayo ng branches/offices nila dito at palakas pa ng palakas ang BPO industry.. ung WTC kasi dito saten parang pang-bazaar at events lang eh (no offense) hehehe..

May chances pa rin tayo, sana matuloy yung Ayala tower 2 and 3, siguradong office yan.

this, for me, is a boring building. it looks like a large refrigerator. the bulkiness creates the illusion of being stout rather than the more desirable effect (at least in my book) of appearing as if soaring or piercing, making it appear awkward or out of harmony with the surroundings.

Gramercy na pero hindi pa tapos.

I love PBCom, it has a mighty look for being one of the tallest in our city. I would even prefer it as the tallest compared to GT or LKG.
