India101 November 20th, 2008, 08:11 AM I really like the first pic! The Imperial of to lonely. We need a 50 and a 55 floor close by.
powai_mumbai November 20th, 2008, 05:54 PM ITs high time that these Fiat taxi's should be stopped on mumbai roads...Look at the bumper, its not even aligned properly, its falling apart...
We need Limos to ply on these roads.......
bhargavsura November 20th, 2008, 06:11 PM How I wish Quadros knew Internet and this forum!!!

We've talked about the taxis a zillion times.
Wait, LIMOS in Bombay???? I hope those disgusting American inventions never hit Bombay's roads. EVER.
bhargavsura November 21st, 2008, 01:38 AM how are limos disgusting? Just because poor ppl can't afford it doesn't make it disgusting. The Indian PM travels in one and by making fun of it your are making fun of the Indian PM and that deserves some ass spanking in an Indian jail.
Either you don't know what you are talking about, or you don't have any knowledge about it!!! I don't know what to say about you man!!!

I don't see what you get by making these silly statements all over the place.
[In the end most forumers will tend to ignore you and you will lose any respect and relevance in this forum. I think you have lost relevance and respect amongst 98% of the SSC India forumers. The remaining 2% will also put you in the ignore list.

Well some of us did think it was sarcastically amusing initially but most people didn't. Now I think very few people find his posts/sarcasm amusing. They are mostly irritating. If he wants to irritate people on a virtual world, then the best thing is all forumers should simply stop replying to his posts.

How do they mow the lawns in India? Any machinery like Lawn Mowers, tractors, rollers used?
Luckystreak December 11th, 2008, 12:24 AM How do they mow the lawns in India? Any machinery like Lawn Mowers, tractors, rollers used?
No. We have more ecofriendly alternatives. This bifunctional lawn mowing system mows the grass and gives instant manure for the grass to regrow.

i just hope that its a city parking lot managed by parking lot attendees who have full pledged control over the parker's cars. If not, then its a menace that Bombay needs to go about fixing soon.

KB335ci2 December 14th, 2008, 03:01 AM I knew that the subject of "unruly parking" would be raised. The guys who manage parking lots like the one above (bang in the middle of busy commercial areas) make use of every bit of available space, and although it seems unruly and disorganised, there is a sense of order in the organised chaos.

Cov Boy December 15th, 2008, 04:52 PM Too bad Watson's Hotel is still so decrepit
Its an outrage to let such a building decay!
Found something interesting from Wikipedia:
After Watson's death, the hotel lost its popularity to the Taj Mahal Hotel. In the 1960s the hotel was closed and sold to a private owner. It was subdivided and partitioned into small cubicles with independent access and let out on rent. Over the years, apathy toward the building by the residents has resulted the building decaying; and is now in a dilapidated state. The atrium was subsequently used as a dumping ground and has several illegal constructions. The building currently has 53 families and 97 commercial establishments. Most of the commercial establishments are chambers of lawyers attached to the adjacent Bombay Civil & Session Courts and to the nearby Bombay High Court.[1][2]

India101 December 24th, 2008, 01:40 AM Depends on how old the pics are, some of the buildings are getting the once over by looking at the scaffold on the rear buildings but saying that there could be many improvements made to Cuffe Parade by making a better water frontage as well and perhaps even a Marina?
Hmm...a marina would look nice.
India101 December 25th, 2008, 10:24 AM erm, i think painting them might be the better proposition
Well it would... but some of those buildings must be 60 years old and with the monsoon every year...mold grows all over them:ohno:.

Hi
I just wanted to put in my two cents about Monsoons, Mold and Mildew(the dreaded 3M Corporation).
From what I have been seeing, many of the buildings in Mumbai, in all India for that matter, are quite elegant, clean and modern on the inside. However, the exteriors all have that sorry run-down slum-like look because of the 3M's. Has there been any effort to come up with any innovative solutions for the problem? I understand that all glass-clad structures are not efficient for a hot, tropical climate either so it would make sense for some type of solution.
Also the older structures like Monuments and those great Bombay Chawls seem hopelessly lost in grime, dust and disrepair. Improving and highlighting the great designs of the chawls and marketplaces would certainly help with business and tourism. However, in thread after thread, I see the same thing. Has the idea of Civic responsibilities and Urban aesthetics reached India? Or are the businesses struggling to stay afloat and perhaps can't afford to improve?
I don't mean to sound negative, its a constructive question. Sorry if the topic has been discussed before !!!!

Apart from the reasons you mentioned above i have noticed other things too which contribute to ugliness of mumbai ( rest the india falls in this too) building exteriors. That is lack of maintenance and flower pots.
Once constructed a building exterior rarely gets maintenance, no painting, no repairs , no nothing.
on top of that people love to put flower pots on the balconeys and water them in their boredom. The excessive water seeps down and makes rest of the building below them very dirty. I was surprized why no body noticed that , what happened to common sense people. i have seen nice buildings with dirty muddy marks from flower pot watering and no one seems to care about it.
I am not saying do it for others but please keep the exterior of your building clean so the price of your own property will stay high.
bhargavsura December 31st, 2008, 03:12 PM Mano ya na mano, kuchh building main bhi dirty politics hai. Many people want to become secretaries and eat the building's maintenance money. So a lot of them are refrained from getting a new coat of paint.
