Mahratta May 24th, 2009, 05:01 AM Those aboves pics almost look like Paris ;) Good finds IU. You can't compare Bombay to Paris in terms of historical architecture. There's very few cities that can compare to Paris. More Indian cities need to start preserving their historical architecture. Bombay is doing it better than most, but then its in the old Indian cities that most historical gems lie ;) hopefully, all of South Bombay's buildings can be restored to that degree. The cleanliness of South Bombay really surprised me. Hopefully they can maintain the good work. India101 May 24th, 2009, 05:25 AM ^^I was just saying how good it looks. Mumbai may have all the gorgeous sky scrapers, but it does not have the infrastructure. Delhi has the infrastructure, but no skyscrapers. We need a combination of both. India101 June 13th, 2009, 05:43 AM Would Gurgaon be considered world cass? Its pretty clean, not many homeless people, glass claded buildings. IndiansUnite June 13th, 2009, 05:48 AM ^ Infrastructure is woefully inadequate. I have looked at pics at other thread and it's amazing. forget world class, Indian cities can't even seem to to stand up to newbies such as Jakarta, Ho chi minh city when it comes to international quality skyscrapers. this is slowly changing however with the likes of brigade northstar and lanco. todscreen June 14th, 2009, 04:55 AM ^^you are demented. whats with people measuring a city's wealth with its skyscrapers? people only build them when land is scarce. India doesn't have such a problem because it's a huge country unlike the rest of the world. India101 June 14th, 2009, 05:39 AM ^^When ranked by density India is 29. 1.1 billion people in 3,287,263 of land isn't too good. So you can say we don't have a problem. Its pretty clean, not many homeless people, glass claded buildings. I have been to gurgaon; part of my family lives there. I have also travelled on the Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway, and been to DLF City. The Skyscrapers are beautiful, and the expressway is also beautiful. It isn't as heavily populated, and you do not see many beggars there. But it still does not have the proper infrastructure. Roads are virtually non-existent. Gurgaon is basically like a village, with skyscrapers instead of small huts. There are no proper roads, inadequate power supply, waste management is a huge issue, it does not have adequate water supply. It doesn't have a bus transit system. It's missing so many things that one would see in a world-class city.. Trust me. Gurgaon is nowhere close to being one. Just having glitzy malls & skyscrapers doesn't make you a world-class city. Hope they do something to fix India's "Millenium City". I think Chandigarh is India's world-class city. Coolguyz June 20th, 2009, 06:26 AM lovely.. would be even better if they tore down those art deco crapolas and build real beautiful skyscrapers. well.....Mumbai has the second largest number of art deco buildings after Miami with a promenade, so tearing them down wont be a good idea and plus many of them are getting a makeover one by one. pbuddy June 20th, 2009, 07:25 AM I love the art deco buildings! We should build skyscrapers behind them lol..but never get rid of the art deco buildings! Renovation would be nice, though. IndiansUnite June 20th, 2009, 08:21 AM Why would you want to pull down those buildings? Their similar yet subtly distinct architecture lends character to the skyline and sets it apart from other skylines. With the Coastal Regulation Zone norms in place, the AD buildings are going no where. The first line of the MD skyline is going to remain AD'd till kingdom come. Building skyscrapers behind the AD buildings and the railway tracks ala DB tower is the way to go. That's pretty much what's going to take place with all the chawls being redeveloped. This guy I know from college lives in one of those AD building smack in the middle of MD. He had no idea what an art deco building was until I told him. http://img40.imageshack.us/img40/4176/iconeek.gif India101 June 20th, 2009, 08:27 AM I hope they never get rid of them. These buildings are so incredibly ugly, you wonder why they put any effort on the crappy stylistic elements like random vertical lines and strange grids and half assed curves. There should be a regulation on the ugliness of buildings. Thats what it has come to. _GrapeWine_ June 30th, 2009, 08:01 AM ^^ All of them might not be looking ugly when they were new...consider Suraj Millennium, we have seen few nice photos of it...the only thing probably is they are maintained poorly from outside. There should be regulation for outer maintenance of buildings. Every building has window panes with all different colors, which adds more to ugliness, I think. India101 June 30th, 2009, 10:46 AM Suraj Millennium is not poorly maintanied. Well kinda is. Its just that the builder painted it a atrocious shade of pink. Cov Boy June 30th, 2009, 12:18 PM What are those two black half finished buildings in these pics? Been like that for sometime. Demolish them! They add to the ugliness of the cityscape. Bombay Boy June 30th, 2009, 01:01 PM they are gone. those are old pics Cov Boy June 30th, 2009, 01:14 PM Excellent! Thank you! I guess you should present the designs you like to the developers. Animesh definitely has a point there. Look at these towers from frankfurt. http://highendfood.files.wordpress.com/2009/01/frankfurt_skyline.jpg Compare them to the Mumbai towers. You'll get his point. Its not just about the developed countries. Look at the building that dot the developings skylines around us such as manila, jakarta, kualalumpur and the likes. Samrat June 30th, 2009, 04:22 PM Wow! great pics of the skyline of Frankfurt am Main. The pencil shaped building is the Messe Turm(Tradefair tower) and is 256.5 metres tall which was the tallest building in Europe till recently. The light blue coloured building in the middle is the Commerz bank building and has a height of 259 metres(with antenna). Left to the Messe Turm is the European Central Bank building(42 storeys and 149 metre tall) My sincere thanks to bairagi for this photo:cheers: bairagi June 30th, 2009, 04:30 PM Wow! great pics of the skyline of Frankfurt am Main. Look at these towers from frankfurt. I think the new buildings that are upcoming are nice. Give Mumbai a few years. By 2013 you will see a change in the buildings and their designs. It's just a matter of time. dhim100 June 30th, 2009, 07:50 PM I think the new buildings that are upcoming are nice. Give Mumbai a few years. India will certainly have many beautiful skylines in future but they will never be like this. They will be unique and unparalleled in the world, reflecting our unique culture, taste and lifestyle. arijeetb July 1st, 2009, 06:03 PM Simply Brilliant:cheers: kviv314 July 1st, 2009, 06:54 PM india's (esp bombay's) skyline will look like this soon (say 2020 for sure)...but only from far away! say from bandra worli sea link in bombay. haha...come closer n then the filth n khadda's in roads n open gutters n god knows what else will become visible. bairagi July 1st, 2009, 07:51 PM india's (esp bombay's) skyline will look like this soon (say 2020 for sure)...but only from far away! say from bandra worli sea link in bombay. haha...come closer n then the filth n khadda's in roads n open gutters n god knows what else will become visible. Money is not the issue here. The problem is there's no will. Neither political nor public. Indian government and the corporate have enough money to build atleast one model skyline like that of frankfurt in any one of the upcoming urban centers. But the attitude is chalta hai/why care.. Many poorer countries in asia, africa and latin america have pretty decent skyline in their capital cities. But look at Delhi. Even the upmarket CP skyline looks so ugly. Unitech grande in noida and lanco hill developement in hyderabad looks great in renderings. Don't know how they will turn up to be when built. Or they will ever be buit to their full glory at all. Delhirocks July 1st, 2009, 08:09 PM does CP skyline looks ugly...are u sure about that boy.....humnn....need to see the city well...get well soon dude bairagi July 1st, 2009, 08:32 PM Well, may be i need to see more.. but from whatever i've seen of it in pics and in my few visits, it did look ugly compared to other modern skylines.. n why do u think i'm sick? If being self critical means sickness to u then it is u who needs to get well soon.. being proud of your city is good.. but u need to open your eyes to negative side of it as well.. it is this kind of attitude which is preventing us from seeing the truth.. yashchauhan July 2nd, 2009, 11:06 AM yar CP is not that bad..........infact i find it pleasant some times..........specially to know that it is the only good skyline in india which has as beautiful landscaping and world class on ground infrastructure....CP is the only world class downtown in india! Marathaman July 2nd, 2009, 11:11 AM Its because Indians are not supeficial in nature. We do not care about outward appearences, only about true intrinsic qualities  Bombay Boy July 2nd, 2009, 12:02 PM yar CP is not that bad..........infact i find it pleasant some times..........specially to know that it is the only good skyline in india which has as beautiful landscaping and world class on ground infrastructure....CP is the only world class downtown in india! bairagi July 2nd, 2009, 01:09 PM original CP skyline pic.. towers look so dirty.. like tall jatt blokes..
