gtmashok March 14th, 2011, 02:18 AM ^Relax he's being sarcastic.
Well, that's some strange sarcasm there. For me at least, the comment did not sound like one.... strange..
SSCaddict March 14th, 2011, 06:24 AM Although you missed quite a few things - biggest arms importer, malnourished children, sex ration, illiteracy, maoist rebellion etc etc ....
i think you jumbled up sex ratio and ration card
btw well done jodhu

Suncity March 14th, 2011, 06:04 PM i think you jumbled up sex ratio and ration card
If they really rationed sex, the intellectual columnists would also put all blame on a "tyrannical" government for such a policy.
Suncity March 14th, 2011, 06:06 PM I have deleted Rizawan Mithawala's photo of Mumbai skyline as he doesn't like his pictures of Mumbai to be posted in this forum.
mihir1310 March 15th, 2011, 01:31 AM Well the real question is that with so many luxury towers kissing the supertall margin, coming up in the city , do we even have so many people who actually live in those apartments ? Too much of the cityspace is being taken over for the purpose of the super rich.
KuwarOnline March 15th, 2011, 06:23 AM Here we just post building above ~35 floors, which offcourse for superrich people, there are hundreds of ongoing projects in/around Mumbai, which we dont discuss here.
bharatiya March 15th, 2011, 07:31 AM These ultra high end apartments arent being bought just by the rich in Bombay. There are plenty NRI investors and even corrupt politicians creating strongholds with their Swiss bank accounts.
So the real estate market is solid :)
Marathaman March 15th, 2011, 01:29 PM
If they really rationed sex, the intellectual columnists would also put all blame on a "tyrannical" government for such a policy.
What is your issue with "intellectuals"? You keep cursing them in every post.

Marathaman March 15th, 2011, 05:01 PM ^^ Intellectual SUCKS
Yes. Because intellectuals show your real face in a mirror. Nobody likes that :)
Euromast March 15th, 2011, 05:07 PM No, they are just "Bakarchods" and we have lot of those types. They are just like old guy sitting under the "Peepal tree" in a village and piss off everybody with their talks and by the way now they have INTERNET also:-)
Conflicting perspectives about the intellectual established the critical tone about the societal role of the public intellectual. Typically, the right-wing perceives intellectuals as too-theoretical, with shallow roots in real life; while, quite generally, in that perspective, the term ‘intellectual’ has negative connotations in the Netherlands, as having ‘unrealistic visions of the World’; in Hungary, as being ‘too-clever’ and an ‘egg-head’; and in the Czech Republic, as discredited for aloofness from reality

MeMumbaikar March 15th, 2011, 05:25 PM I personally am not too thrilled about this private residential skyscrapers popping up in mumbai.
Not that i am against them in any way but not too thrilled about them either. Just dont care.
Commercial real estate super-tall skyscrapers. Thats what the city needs.
Preferably located close to a major railway station.
Those dont seem to be happening. Only one i can think of in the super tall segment is India tower (which atleast is mixed use)

I think he means "pseudointellectuals" which are far too common in our country. One only has to go to NDTV or TOI to find them.

and i will be frank. Even if Mumbai does develop a skyline we need to ensure that older buildings built in the 70s atleast have a fresh coat of paint. Some of the buildings in nariman point are falling apart and just too ugly.

p2p4 March 17th, 2011, 05:00 AM have a look at them in Bengal. After the debacle in Japan CPM "intellectuals" have urged the govt to scrap the project in Jaitpur
You haven't been to the Konkan coast of Maharashtra. Perhaps that is the reason why many question the stupidity of those who oppose the Jaitapur Nuclear project. The entire Konkan coast is a very rich and bio-diverse area with fertile soil that feeds half of Maharashtra. The Andhra-ite governor who approved the project and gave the go ahead should have lobbied hard to have the nuclear power station built in Andhra Pradesh !
And these so called (Indian) intellectual scientists who claim that no calamity can harm the Jaitapur project, I wonder how and why their super IQed acumen did not help the Fukushima engineers who are still battling out the partial meltdowns.
ANyways... I do not want to derail this thread. Anyone who wants to debate on the topic of Jaitapur N.P can email me or PM me. I would be very generous in giving my viewpoints for not having the nuclear power stations on the western coast of India
Marathaman March 17th, 2011, 05:03 AM No intstead we should build mega thermal projects which cause far more harm to the soil, people and environment. Let's ban clean, green nuclear power which can only cause harm in a once-every-1000-years disaster.
p2p4 March 17th, 2011, 05:33 AM Since when have Nuclear Power stations in India been clean?
Where does the spent nuclear rods get dumped? Thought of that? Where does the water gets pumped into? Thought of that? Ever BEEN to localities where there are nuclear power stations IN INDIA where people tilling the land have been harmed far more? I would be very very happy indeed to enlighten you on this.
I never said NO to Nuclear Power. All I am saying is NOT ON THE agricultural and bio diverse WESTERN COAST OF INDIA ! There are enough places in India where the NPs can be built.
No intstead we should build mega thermal projects which cause far more harm to the soil, people and environment. Let's ban clean, green nuclear power which can only cause harm in a once-every-1000-years disaster.
Marathaman March 17th, 2011, 05:37 AM All coasts of India are bio-diverse btw. Nuclear reactors can only be built near coasts, and yes, please tell me what harm has been caused by Indian nuclear plants thus far, and how it is worse than the harm caused by thermal power plants which release mercury and arsenic into the surrounding areas along with toxic fly ash and radioactive contamination.
think-tank March 17th, 2011, 07:34 AM All coasts of India are bio-diverse btw. Nuclear reactors can only be built near coasts,
Last time i looked germany and few other countries didn't exist near the coastline. There is this nuclear plant in India called Kaiga Atomic Power Station which is like 40kms from the coast and in UP and Rajastan which are very far from the beach....anyhow, to shutdown the reactor you need saline water or other reactor coolants which doesn't necessarily mean the plant has to be near the coast line.
Marathaman March 17th, 2011, 07:40 AM I should have said "most", not "all" as they need large volume of water for coolant. If not the coast then they are situated near some large freshwater body.
KuwarOnline March 17th, 2011, 12:04 PM ^^+1 NP requires huge amount of water so yes if possible most of them built near sea, if not then near fresh water reserve.....

Is the crane still there because there is last-minute construction going on? Or is construction over?
BTW, can someone tell me for the Worli-Haji Ali link, is it extension of the present sea-link?
Cov Boy April 14th, 2011, 01:19 AM Construction is finished.

Yeah you may pass through. But I live in Lokhandwala. I know you are referring to the new buildings behind the petrol pump just after Infiniti. But those buildings in the pic are definitely Oberoi Splendor in JVLR

zoxtannin April 29th, 2011, 07:03 PM well said... you can even make out the color variation in them... did you also see the pot belly one in the front? Can you EVER imagine he can run for 50 meters and catch a terrorist? Indian police is a joke.... I remember, during british rule they said calcutta police was as efficient as scotland yard. Now its a bunch of unfit old jokers working for politicians... same all over india.

There are plans (very preliminary) to overhaul (http://entertainment.oneindia.in/bollywood/news/2010/manish-police-uniform-010610.html) the Khakhis ! Lets close the argument there - too early to talk about it. Back to pics!!

Coolguyz May 6th, 2011, 04:18 PM Wow, beautiful road. By the way, when are they getting rid of the Premier Padminis?
A lot of them have vanished, some are left. The Drivers themselves are getting newer vehicles, mostly Santros. Some others who are sick of the Padminis but cant buy a new vehicle sell their permits to Call cab companies.

aksstar May 6th, 2011, 05:16 PM ^^ Thanks for the pics CG. Question for the forum members. What will it take to improve the quality of roads and better marking? The roads above makes tiny villages in China look world class and this is Mumbai we're talking about.
murlee May 6th, 2011, 06:11 PM Exactly!! Proper lane marking on that road without that Premier taxi would have looked out of India!!

what you see in those pics are conrete roads.
they are smooth to travel on (ie no bumps)
Mumbai needs concrete roads everywhere.
about lane marking hmm i dont know different type of paint sprayed regularly?

I guess I'm talking about the quality of construction. It appears to be standard at best and I can see several small bumps in those pictures as well. Part of it also has to do with lack of landscaping and maintenance (i.e. keeping it clean) But that's probably true for most roads in India but I expected roads in Mumbai to be better than the rest or at least as good as Delhi.
