ssusa June 15th, 2011, 06:51 PM Well ok maybe not 75% but most are filthy, polluted with people defecating, pissing there. And then you look at the uncontrolled dumping of waste from factories, sewers into the rivers and seas. It's not a good thing when this happens, especially when the fresh water is polluted as well.
Do you know all these for the fact or its just by default any thing in India is bad, dirty, etc. etc??

MeMumbaikar June 16th, 2011, 10:38 AM not much till now compared to the rest of the city (especially sobo)
but slowly development is coming there as a spill off from places in Parel etc.
btw nice pics mer101
India101 June 16th, 2011, 11:26 AM ^Quiet you.
And yes, if you can even see the Imperial Towers & Orchid Enclave all the way in Tardeo and Mumbai Central. And it's not hard to spot Palais Royale, looks fat even from this far away.
Williemore - Yep, that sure is the Spring Mills tower. There are a couple 60-70fl towers coming up around it. It will make a great looking cluster.
Theta1 June 16th, 2011, 11:29 AM Well Byculla would be worth millions for the property there, I am surprised no one is investing in that area.
MeMumbaikar June 16th, 2011, 11:46 AM Well Byculla would be worth millions for the property there, I am surprised no one is investing in that area.
some places like Kurla and Buyculla, lets say though centrally located suffer from demographic issues.
though i am sure it will change. Parel was once considered a shit place to live as well.
Theta1 June 16th, 2011, 11:49 AM When you say demographic, what do you mean? Slums etc?

williemore June 16th, 2011, 07:53 PM really?? Parel was good to my knowledge from all places I had visited... it was from chinchpokli or kalachowki onwards all the way towards masjid where most of the slums or makeshift dwellers took refuge... but some pockets like the back bay rd were all messed up... a part of Parel was predominantly a chawl area but not all... there are pockets near the Aryan school which are actually nice localities...
not much till now compared to the rest of the city (especially sobo)

bhargavsura June 17th, 2011, 04:14 AM Nice one there.
p2p4 June 17th, 2011, 05:09 AM The anti tree cutting lobby really suck big time. I am not for tree cutting but there is a thing called TREE TRANSPLANTING and there are a couple of companies based in Mumbai who do this kind of job.
Unfortunately in India, not many people know what tree transplanting is (quite literally uprooting a whole mature tree and transplanting it elsewhere). This industry of T.Transp. is so well developed in countries like Singapore / China that I am often at loss to understand why in India we can't even use such [existing] technologies.
How many times are these tree lovers going to beat their chests in saving trees? Save them at all costs buddies but there is also a thing called PLANTING AND CARING for more trees. Here again, tree farms are almost a non-entity.
Note - I have posted about Tree Farming in China eons ago and I need to dig it out. But to cut a long story short, tree farms grow trees from 'seeds to saplings to young mature plants' and then they get transplanted elsewhere with quite a lot of care given on their native soil structure and reintroduction to non native soils.
Yea, there was a plan but the central zoo authority rejected it on recommendations on heritage committe as they believe the new plan involves lot of tree cutting. So now they are back to drawing board.
anyways BMC maintains the gardens quite well, quite a few news gardens have opened in last one year which are in good condition like one on mahim causeway, front of plaZa, on dadar beach, powai promenade.Hanging gardens, maheshwari udyan, five gardens are erll maintained till today

as for tree transplantation, the local authorities have done it many times here. reason why people dont trust them anymore is that every single time they have done the transplanting the tree has died within a year. as with everything here the ideas are there, but the implementation is strictly third world. or worse

I do agree it been a mistake to chop the mature coconut tress and replace them with a different species which will take years to mature like the ones near Oberoi & Trident Hotels.
p2p4 June 28th, 2011, 04:51 AM There should be more greenery. The trees are planted too far apart. On a overcast day or evening it wont make a difference but on a hot summer high noon day, you just dont have shade.
Also - they could have built sand pits for dog-walkers to have their dogs discharge the poop. It is quite silly to ban dog owners from bringing their dogs.

Totally agree!
Not enough thought was given to maintaining the exisiting trees as well as new trees closer together.
The renovation of Bandra promanade is the way to do it with seating areas, greenaery, trees and many shaded areas.
Coconut trees would have been the ideal choice here & would suit the promanade as it did before....an opportunity lost :ohno:

There is no mall as such in powai, only standalone stores.Go karting is still popular.
now there is a lane jsut further up the main circle which has all the international chain of restaurants. Latest to open is Chili's

chotu32 July 5th, 2011, 10:15 PM Maybe not the apt forum to post this but good to know how Indian states compare to each other:
http://www.economist.com/content/indian-summary
and against US/China as a country:
http://www.economist.com/blogs/dailychart/2011/01/comparing_us_states_countries
http://www.economist.com/content/all_parities_china
very disappointing, when u consider the population of each of those states as opposed to the countries population
chotu32 July 7th, 2011, 12:08 AM If you mean tall buildings then no, only Mumbai has tall building except very few from kolkata/other cities
see
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_tallest_buildings_in_India
any updating to this link please send message to me.
not just tall buildings, I mean is there any other city in india which is so lively and where so much stuff is going on.

fsi problem anshul bhai......
I think mumbai would have extremely low real estate prices as well if the FSI is increased to say 5.
I dont know why FSI is so low anyways.

"heritage"
you cant build big with fsi of only 1.3
if fsi is 5 or so, then it would be large.
take that one world project.
17 acres and only 2-3 buildings in them.

williemore July 14th, 2011, 08:53 PM my guess is most pple who live here to this day are gujaratis in the stock exchange business... however two decades ago the demographics of this area was quite different... no offense to sensitive pple... m sure there is representation from every community... but to my knowledge, majority has to be small and successful stock brokers and big businessmen...
It is so low in that area? area just adjacent to AI and trident buildings? :bash:
I was in Mumbai a few days back and there was a sea wide difference in the old low rises and new highrises on Marine drive. Most of these low rises are old hotels I think many Parsis live there. am i ryt?

2.5 km long
actually it would have been awesome if they had made a continuous flyover run along the entire length of ambedkar road from kings circle with exit and entry ramps.
would be a 10-12 km stretch
