This didn't happen overnight. It shows the complete ineptitude of the local government as it slept (or ignored) while all the open lands were taken over. Now suddenly after it's all gone, it has woken up and is trying to do cosmetic surgery.

It'll look pretty cool when the Sealink is finished, and BTW by that time a lot of Mumbai's current u/c highrise projects, including the twin towers in Tardeo, will be complete too.

I can't wait for someone to propse something over 300m, or even over 400m, in Mumbai.

Thats because you see marine lines / worli / bandra / powai most of the time.
suburbs are highly underrated here . 10-12 floor towers are in abundance all over mumbai ! Unlike the north american cities , which peak at the downtown and are pretty much flat elsehwere , Mumbai is quite tall as a whole

Thanks Suncity, great pictures. I like the palm trees in Bandra and the greenery in Nariman Point (NP) but I always thought the buildings in NP are a let down. Reliance can afford to tear down their building and build something better and flash.

You can see SD Towers coming up well too behind the brown residentail tower and you can see The Legend still as not finished construction in the distance! as well as other construction activity.

We have a render of that building in our archives, but I am not sure about the names, I just know that the shape matches one of the renders at our forum. Anyways, I think it's MARATHON NEXTGEN

The like the 6th photo, the building is very art deco and it looks great plus the balconies.

The 8th photo is great shot of Parel with Worli next to it too with its towers as well as the skyline in the background.

I guess it could be Nextgen Era. It does look like the Marathon Nextgen complex. The building in the exact center seems to be Marathon Innova.

Where is Infinity Mall and that building pictured below Infinity Mall? Is that a new residential building? Needs painting.

What is that pylon doing in the middle of the road next to the Mall????? That is so dangerous. I mean the electro-static energy emitting from that! Or what if a car or bus hit it in an accident.

its at andher-link road. that pylon was there much before the mall or indeed most of that road came up. they should take steps to bury the lines there now that there is development around it, though since its a main line it might be quite expensive. overhead wires look ugly

Although foreign styles are nice, they always seem to love injecting Greco-Roman or Gothic themes into buildings, but never attempt to blend much traditional Indian style in.

Many of the buildings in the first set have mini-parthenon type features on the top - why not attempt rajput style mini-domes, or temple architecture inspiration for a change? Or East Asian styles for that matter.

howcome all the tall buildings in Mumbai are residential towers? Why don't they build more commercial towers that dominate the skyline? Residential buildings don't look as good as the commercial ones. Even the commercial highrises in Mumbai look like the residential ones. It's just an observation. Maybe it is more profitable to build residential highrises.

Maybe companies prefer midrise buildings.

The faulty planning of socilaist Indian planners who were very afraid of growth of cities. They didn't plan for the growth because they believed in decentralization - a nice concept on paper but something that doesn't work in reality. So commercial development was discouraged for a long time.

residential buildings are made up of flats that are sold outright and the builder is out of there after having made a tidy sum, so it justifies more flats per plot (i.e. higher buildings). office buildings are usually owned by the builder and he rents/leases out space, which then come under our archaic rent/lease laws. this is not profitable enough to justify the higher construction costs and also there are no incentives for higher office buildings from the government nor any zoning laws for high-rise areas

also high rise flats are sought after for their view, fresh air, less noise, etc. with flats in higher floors going at a premium. most people who rent offices mostly care about costs. so a cheap low-rise is quite acceptable
