But you are all naive in thinking that good PR = turning a blind eye. Thats not true. Good pr = concentrating on the good parts.

PR is different from policy. If PR generates tourism jobs, who low skilled are likely to get those jobs. Ie it benefits them.

Which is why Incredible India shows good campaigns and not slums.

Powai lake is a circular while one in ahmedabad is a river,elongated one. Hiranandani side is developed with walkways,kids area,musical fountains, and a main garden in the middle. By end of the month there will be a refurbished Ambedkar udyan where boating activities takes place. Something similar to ahmadabad one is done in Juhu,it isnt wide as AHMD one. They have removed enchroachments,strengthened the side wall,work wil start on jogging track,cycling track amd walkways.By the end of the year it wil b complete. It starts from Mithibai college and ends near PVR juhu

It was completed in 1992 (not 2012!!!) unfortunately during the 2008 Mumbai attacks, it was blown up by terrorists :( They had to demolish the entire thing, so India had world's second tallest building for 20 years and then we lost it :ohno:

@sunny, only the foundations were complete for India tower and has been hold for over a year. Btw it was supposed to be completed by 2016 not 2012. But with this delay, and if it takes off, it will be completed by around 2017-18. sucks though.

What is that area to the left of the pic with the dome & are those stables for the Racecourse?

What river flows by the slum?

That slum is ripe for development hehe.

demolish the eyesore on right... encroaches on prime land like leeches.

The slum rehab is already in the works. DB Realty and Lokhandwala had pitched proposals to redevelop it.

Cov Boy - yup, those are stables and that's just a drain next to the slum.

Is it only me who thinks that exterior walls of apartment buildings (especially in Mumbai) are un-necessarily too thick?

One just needs to look at the 'windows' of these apartment buildings and the walls are easily , anywhere between 1.5-2 feet in depth (or more).

Certainly these walls don't need to be THAT thick do they?

It was completed in 1992 (not 2012!!!) unfortunately during the 2008 Mumbai attacks, it was blown up by terrorists :( They had to demolish the entire thing, so India had world's second tallest building for 20 years and then we lost it :ohno:

Many of the older buildings in the middle east and asia have thick concrete walls too.. in Australia, the walls, u can punch a hole into em using ur hand (no seriously)... the walls are made from plaster of paris/ gyprock... and u can easily hear a conversation from the next room :ohno:

@sunny, only the foundations were complete for India tower and has been hold for over a year. Btw it was supposed to be completed by 2016 not 2012. But with this delay, and if it takes off, it will be completed by around 2017-18. sucks though.

There actually were some 100 floor building proposals in the last decade, but none of them materialized except India Tower which is sadly on hold, cuz the design is so modern.

Are you talking about dry walls? Then they are interior.

Prasad, I do not know the actual reason. But the walls are perhaps too thick since they are made of bricks (maybe two brick laid side by side and then comes the gunneting process with cement), which all contributes to thicker wall. The walls in taller structures here are also thick as well and they use cement bricks/blocks. Normal houses in countries like United States are raised on wooden structures and the sidings are sometimes vinyl or bricks based on preferences or laws. The depth of these walls (at least in my home) is about 3.5". The depth might be more on taller structures like buildings.

Thicker walls in the buildings are there to form a solid foundation and maybe structure rigidity. That's my assumption.
