I don't know how you manage to get these nice pics!!!

One question, why on Earth were two of my pictures deleted??

They were from Bombay and I don't like my pictures deleted w/o my notice or w/o giving me a reason!!!. I have had this argument before as well!!!

Both the pictures have been posted before. One of the pictures is by a photo journalist who had given permission to post the photo in showcase gallery only. The other photo is by one of our existing forumers and has been posted quite a few times before. Plus the photos are somewhat old.

I think the flyover would look terrificly ugly. There is mall on one side. Why would they put flyover in the road for a short distance. The reason the picture looks disturbing is because of the traffic. I think a lot better discipline and some strict traffic laws enforced by the cops would help the scene make a lot organized one.

In all fairness, whoever took the picture, captured a "perfectly" indisciplined moment. The area is usually quite disciplined. The pedestrian problem arises from the fact that the commercial buildings on the west generate a ton of pedestrian movement, to and from the mall (lunch hour - food court - get the picture?)

I'm not sure I get what you mean.
The current setup is really stupid, they change the direction every 10-12 hours with that stupid rope-barrel setup.
The flyover was originally built keeping in mind the bandra-worli link coming up close by. All the traffic from there will fall into this road.
Also, I really don't think there is much of a 'law enforcement problem' there, its the same thats all over the city. According to me they should have made it 2-ways. The same way they are forced to rectify the Sion bridge, once the sea link is up, they will have to rectify this.

thank you ... you can't believe how much I'm looking forward to it. :)

I agree the rope barell thing looks like a weird way of lane-merging. A better signage and proper road design might have helped. But I absolutely would not like to see a flyover coming over this place.

Again as I said above, if people are disciplined in driving and if they use courtesy in driving, then I think traffic would be a lesser mess and it would be a better scene. It has 3 lanes on each side.

Again as I said above, if people are disciplined in driving and if they use courtesy in driving, then I think traffic would be a lesser mess and it would be a better scene. It has 3 lanes on each side.

Firstly, the rope-barrel arrangement isn't permanent, and it does not merge lanes. In fact, it directs north/ south-bound traffic onto the flyover, depending on the time of day.
You have no choice, the flyover's up already, as part of the traffic management/ infrastructure system of the BWSL :)
The mall (Atria) opened much after the flyover. We're all aware of traffic manners in India, so there's no point going on and on about it. If you have a suggestion that could change the way people drive, let's hear it (other than - strict driving schools, driving tests, national awareness through the various forms of media etc.)

Read some points in the article.

It did make some points in the article- most were bitter truth. Had hard time swallowing them :). But such people often fail to mention the positive side of the society and I am sure their view would be completely positive in the next five years. These years are crucial for Bombay's infrastructure and I am sure Bombay is going to have its own way to prove all of its critics (though I was one of them before few months :)) in the world wrong, and it will give India a new name.

Manhattan? Mumbai wasn't designed to look like Manhattan.

It looks like some pan-American city like Panama or Sau Paolo.

The only difference if you compare Mumbai to Sao Paulo you can see red roofings and red roofings from the top in Sao Paulo which looks absolutely beautiful along with great high rises. And in Mumbai, you can see a few high rises along with gray roofings- which you have to figure out what those are!

Great photos!

What is that brown water? Sewage? if so how disappointing.

sewage and pollution. you'll find the same all around india's coastline near major towns

shallow sea water is not brown, its a lighter shade of blue

qwertyasd
March 11th, 2008, 08:17 AM
exactly! that is sewage! untreated at that!

Jai
March 11th, 2008, 09:00 AM
With all due respect, that's may not be the case BB. Granted, Mumbai's coastwater, Perrier it may not be, but even here in Hawaii shallow landfilled water is the same color. I'm sure that up along the coastline, where its natural coast, it looks more natural

http://img374.imageshack.us/img374/7092/bombaymapqa7ic1.jpg

But its nothing that reclamation land beautification can't fix... just wait it a decade and I'm sure it'll be fixed ;)

Bombay Boy
March 11th, 2008, 09:25 AM
well the land off bombay is rocky, so you cant really say the mud is making it brown. you just need to stand next to the ocean in bombay, and its not chanel no. 5 you're smelling for sure. there is a project underway for taking most of the waste about a few kms away from the coast and its almost complete, but the problem is a that a huge amount of waste just flows into the sea from defecation, to open sewages, to the mithi river

even in goa the water near the south or north is much cleaner than near panjim

Suncity
March 12th, 2008, 07:33 AM
Besides pollution, the brown look could be attributed to churning of sand and silt due to tide action?

If you look closely there is greenery its the height of the pic & quality.

Mumbai has no shortage of trees and in some parts its very green.

Bombay is bustling Metropolitan. Concrete & Glass jungle is what we want to get those 60% of Bombay population out of slums & into proper housng. Dont take the bait from those environmentalist bullshitters. they got nothing better to do.

I like this one. Planet Godrej's wideness & being tall enuf really fills up the lack of highrises in that area. All concrete or all glass, we need both at this point to fill up bombay's skyline.

its pretty hush-hush right now, they have not gotten all permissions and its not exactly 'socially acceptable'. so expect to hear about it only when its well advanced

I agree its an awesome photo!

Also its very interesting & new to new to hear of this 7 Star hotel, with Marinas! & private chalets!

There are many patches of barren land around the WTC and all round that area which can have more buidings, marinas etc.

Look how brown the water is on in the pic compared to the other side! :ohno:

Does anyone know what are the Twin Towers (Under construction- one it looks like its almost built, the second half way through- the tallest buildings in the area) to the left of the Sheth Beaumonde in the picture?

Are they Imperial Towers?

there is some major sh*t going down in bombay nowadays, mostly behind closed doors. dont know how many will see the light of day, but lots of exciting projectsI wouldn't doubt it. The India/DB Tower at Marine Lines pretty much came up out of nowhere. But about this hotel, do you know if it is a highrise project? If that's the case, it has a potential to be immense!

That's a huge area they have there, and the nearby CBDs were built with an FSI of 5. An article IU posted said that the India/DB Tower was built according to those regs, and that is a much smaller plot. Regardless, I just hope that the development would allow green spaces. That whole area was once grass space, before the slums encroached.

Any other rumors you can fill us in on?
