Nixoderm February 25th, 2007, 08:32 PM Wowio, tripoli seems to be a very quiet city...
StormShadow February 25th, 2007, 08:40 PM I agree, some parts seem as if there is no activity going on. However, there is much more to this city, I'll post more soon.
moroccanboy February 25th, 2007, 08:55 PM this city needs alot of constructions..it looks so poor and underdevolpment
Nixoderm February 25th, 2007, 09:32 PM I wouldn't use the word poor but old comes to mind. It needs a new face lift pronto!!
StormShadow February 25th, 2007, 10:01 PM Well, it don't look as bad as some ppl make it seem. What this city appears to be is sparse, not so dense for a city of it's size. It does have some unique looking talls, so to speak.
These residential buildings seems it was constructed recently.

Artificial lake close to Assai Al-Hamra (Red Castle) and Al Saaha Alkhadhraa (the Green Square) is landscaped with palm trees as is much of Tripoli.

Nixoderm February 25th, 2007, 10:16 PM I like the Unique architecture but It looks more like a town than a city to me...
StormShadow February 25th, 2007, 10:17 PM BTW, what I meant by sparse is the coastal area where Tripoli's talls are located. Not the entire city of course. :)
Nixoderm February 25th, 2007, 10:19 PM \:P I guess so

StormShadow February 26th, 2007, 12:18 AM Question, Is tripoli the biggest city in Libya??
That is correct. It's population is about 1,682,000. Benghazi is the 2nd biggest city with a population about 660,147 - 950,000.
There is a Benghazi on this forum also.
Xusein February 26th, 2007, 06:51 AM Nice pictures, the Dhat al-Ahmat towers look interesting.
Matthias Offodile February 26th, 2007, 03:14 PM Tripoli looks better than I expected! soem really nice places ...
Moroccanboy said Tripolis is "so poor and underdevelopped". Well, poor and underdevelopped is something different at least in my eyes, but I agree with you on the aspect of more constructions....but Lybia is still rich and has one of Africa´s - if not the highest - HDI Index! So it can´t be "so poor and underdevelopped" as said earlier.
moroccanboy February 26th, 2007, 11:05 PM if libya is so rich, where is the money? from a country like libya i accept more!! niamey (niger) looks better.
education is bad, healthcare is bad, infrastructur is bad ..where are all the bn's kadafhi from the oil?
i heard from the people who have visite tripoli.they said, its so boring ! no nightlife.you become crazy there...everywere where u go u see the pictures of dictator kadaffi an his greenbook full with fairytales.
libya need educated person, like his sun..maybe than can libya become a second DUBAI inshallah..if we have still that scizofranic person..libya will never change
StormShadow February 26th, 2007, 11:11 PM Here is Niamey since it was mentioned.

friendsofthecity June 16th, 2007, 05:07 PM I have had a week trip to tripoli.Actually,I do agree with Moroccanguy to some extent that it's underdevelop with regards to many things like night-life,modern buildings,education,social-life and above all intolerant attitude litters the whole places.More need to be done in a country that's so rich as Libya---well,the wealth is oil.I wish to see many tall modern buildings springing up in tripoli.

Libya's military budget is as large as war-time budget.:ohno:
Carver02 June 18th, 2007, 11:54 AM I trust you guys that have been there when you say the place is dull with no night life etc. But, to me, this place looks gorgeous, at least from a distance. Being on the water, with nice open squares, sidewalk restaurants, those narrow streets with little stores and cafes, and some great Mediterrainean architecture give this city great charm.

Arabic is the official language of Libya, probably Italian and English is understood and spoken by a certain number of it's population.
Arab_10 March 24th, 2008, 08:12 PM can anyone get info on that tripoli tower project, it looks very interesting and the lott that the design is placed on is actually vacant. I wonder if they started the construction on it.

But the skyline is decent for Tripoli really I hope that the icomes from tehir huge oil production will help the lybian population.
They need to open their economy to liberalism and diversify it otherwise they won`t be able to compete !!
The Lybians are very similar to us ( specially the tunsiians of the SOuth culturally we are close we both speak the same dialect but other than that the mentality is different, they heatlh , education system is outdated ...

Libya has more Roman monuments then Italy. They have old Roman cities who are in good condition but they haven't got much tourisme..
Libya has in tourisme so much potential..

But how come Libya's HDI is high ? How come life expectancy of Libya is high ? ( 76.2 years ) ? How come all the pics shows very beautiful, clean, and organized images of Tripoli ? With very beautiful avenues and highways ?
I really need explanation on that.

Logicaly, i can't accept for example, lybia is more developped ( taking account on HDI) than SA or Morocco.

NOT according to atleast one foreign visitor to the city of Tripoli (hopefully that'll change for better when Gaddafi is gone).
Here is her travelblog excerpt..
The driving in Libya is pretty dreadful, in fact life in Tripoli is pretty tough on all fronts. I found myself constantly being reminded of experiences from our other 3 postings, but here it was all happening in the one place
Severan Arch, Leptis Magna. They drive like idiots, and fast - wrong way up a 3-4 lane road, no probs. Lots of accidents, we were sideswiped before we even reached the hotel (Eric also has an armoured Landcruiser, didn't seem to bother the battered little taxi though...), nobody bothered to stop. The hotel was quite good, with a bit of a view to the old Medina (city) and the corniche (coast). The rubbish everywhere was extreme - I have seen places with that much rubbish before, but not absolutely everywhere - the place could do with a recycling industry at the very least! Plastic is such a curse. There were some interesting touches, like the 2 semi-submerged fishing boats in the harbour - left there as a reminder of the American bombing of Gadaffi's palace, and banners everywhere celebrating his 38 years delivering freedom and happiness to the oppressed (he has just begun a program to build housing for the poor, he must have had a lot on his mind these last 38 years).

The weather was pleasantly cool and rainy after Dubai and the old centre, Martyrs Square or Green Square, (which I guess is named after the Libyan flag, a stunning piece of thoughtful design - it is plain green) has many dilapidated Italian buildings and small streets opening into little piazza's - some of the buildings are being restored and the area has great potential (found ourselves saying this a lot!) as it has a lovely European feel. The local women wear traditional clothing with headscarves but we didn't see any face veils - the men in long tunics and pants.

Tetwani February 24th, 2011, 12:20 PM Morocconboy earlier said that Libya is a poor country with poor infrastructure , while another person I met on a site said she was shocked with poverty rate among LIbyans when she visited Tripoli earlier this year.
But how come Libya's HDI is high ? How come life expectancy of Libya is high ? ( 76.2 years ) ? How come all the pics shows very beautiful, clean, and organized images of Tripoli ? With very beautiful avenues and highways ?
I really need explanation on that.
I'm shocked too, it looks so underdevelopped and dirty (except some skyscrapers) when you compare it with its neighbours (Tunisia, Algeria and Morocco)! :ohno: I was expecting a skyline like Dubai's one Where goes the money Mr Murdrer Khaddafi? :bash:

Long Live Gaddafi!
Sorry, I support Colonel Gaddafi (my opinion :) )
iTz man April 29th, 2011, 07:00 AM You know Qadafi had stoped spending on military like he used to do in the past. He was planing to expand his wonder water engineering project reserves to egypt and Sudan and also building houses for the poor. Is it a coincident then Obama wanted him out after him getting a bit soft for good for once after his long rule……..
