View Full Version : Japanese Inaka(rural) town
castermaild55 February 27th, 2007, 06:14 AM I like a beautiful rural town more than a big city:)
at first....
岐阜県郡上八幡(Gifu prefecture Gujyo-hachiman) The Town of Water.
Y6pItZTJq1s
The limpid stream Nagara River is famous for "ukai", the fishing method catching ayu (Japanese trout) by using tamed cormorants. Hachiman Town of Gujo City in Gifu Prefecture is located on upper stream of the river and stands silently surrounded by green mountains and clear waters. In downtown, Yoshida River, the tributary of the Nagara River, streams clearly and the Gujyo Hachiman Castle built by the warrior Endo Morikazu has been watching the town's history through 400 years.

for example
Nakasendō...

there were 69 main towns from Edo(tokyo) to kyoto at that time
it seems ghost town because they were isolated...

It is 2 hours by bus on the north of Nagoya. You have to take a Shinkansen to Nagoya from Tokyo to get there.
I'm plannig to go there this summer, after a short trip to Kyoto.
This town is wonderful, it is in some way similar to the town of the famous "Spirited Away" anime from Miyazaki.
Japan is a wonderful land!

Seems to be in the middle of mountains.
I'd love to go there in the fall sometime.
castermaild55 January 26th, 2013, 06:00 AM Genkai shūraku
Genkai shūraku (限界集落?, literally limited village, also translated as marginal village) is any village that has experienced depopulation and in danger of disappearing altogether,
largely because more than half of the people living in the village are over the age of 65.
Such villages are generally found in mountain villages and outlying islands.
Villages facing this sort of situation have seen the functions of a community - local government autonomy, maintaining of roads, and ceremonial occasions - rapidly declining,
and are facing losing these altogether.

in case of Otari village, 70% of population is more than 65 years old
