The top is odd-looking. I wonder why they decided that it will have multi-corners on top? To give more corner offices?

I think its just over 200m...if i remember it right. I hate the podium...they should take lessons from Rockwell. The rest of the building has a good setback design though.

Yeah, no kidding, eh? Although the reason why it irks me is why didn't they just buy the lot beside it and extended the podium? Made it nice and guarantee that it won't be wall to wall! :rant:

Overall, its such a beautiful building and I just love looking out my window to see its grandeur and beauty everyday! :cool:

considering its geometric intricacies, union bank probably spent more money on this per unit sq meter than any other developer in manila.
but it paid off-- for it is now a sky-high fashion statement isn't it?

that's right. made it become my fave ortigas skyscraper. i think the design has something to do with the logo of union bank, which sort of points upwards. i dunno. just my guess. oh by the way, i read several CB Richard Ellis and Colliers articles, and they haven't made mention of this building as addition to the supply of leasable space.

^^ Oh that's not too bad. When in comes to skyline rankings and best skyscraper awards, Emporis didn't consider the existence of Philippine skyscrapers such as Union Bank and RCBC Plaza back in 2001 since they didn't have height stats despite my entries and photographs showing proof that they do indeed exist. The practice continues up to this day....

now that's bad. it's the right of the building owner not to disclose the height for several reasons. the photos should be more than enough to prove their existence. these structures are not ones that could skip one's notice.

is union bank really taller by 17 meters than one san miguel tower?
from a distance, it seems like san mig's is taller.
i guess most of the panoramic pictures i see of ortigas are biased in favor of buildings nearer to edsa..
also, if 1 meter is equivalent to 3.28 feet, then union bank must be taller than seattle's space needle tower, WOW!
union bank, pbcom of makati, and petron megaplaza should build open-air viewing platforms, even bungee jumping take-off sites, hahaha

perhaps the most exquisite and multidimensional skyscraper in the philippines, this one.

its infinitesimal features, relative to its huge size, always make it worth the second look.

But reality is, the other side could very well be covered entirely by another skyscraper. :(

i don't think OCC's final roof height will be taller than Unionbank Plaza's.

Nadissapoint lang ako sa UBP nung nakita ko siya ng malapitan ay iyong podium nya. Pero overall ang ganda!

Chris, the blurry clouds and streaks of traffic light suggest that it was taken using long shutter speeds - siguro mga 10 secs. that's possible for SLR and prosumer cams. and using a tripod of course. :)

By the way, this is my fave Ortigas skyscraper before.

still is, kaso mo indi na ako mahilig ng skyscrapers. hehehe....i think they've lost their luster. for me. i'm thinking that...well, when Armageddon comes these structures will be gone. what took years to get built, it will only take an instant to destroy.

AAAHHH! My fav building in the Philippines! More architects/designers need to take a look at this magnificent building and build MORE of these types, even taller...it surely stands out among the monotony of box-type scrapers surrounding it!.....FBGC, Ortigas, Libis, Makati, Bay City, Manila, Filinvest, Araneta, Roxas Blvd, Cebu City... are you listening!!....it may cost more, but WOW what an impact!!!

Simula ng maghukay sa property na yan at hanggang sa tumaas ay World Finance Plaza ang billboard na nakalagay.
Hindi ko na tuloy nakikita mula sa 22nd Floor Strata ang mga nagmo-motocross dyan sa dating Payanig sa Pasig(Metrowalk na ngayon).

wats the reason why ganayn podium nya

they could have done better. they should consider the "corner lot" advantage. the right side of the podium serves as a firewall becasue it lies exacltly at the property line..and its acceptable..but the 3 remaining sides are facing streets:ohno: changing its podium finish could help to take that impression off.

union bank obviously maxed out the floor space within its land title specs.

but i agree that they should have put some extra architectural details on the podium's sides which face the corner streets.

as for the sides facing adjacent lots, they probably thought ahead, thinking it would be ultimately blocked anyway---should another building sprout from them anytime in the future.

how come gt, lkg, ayala life-fgu, pbcom does'nt have any concrete firewall (yata.)

yeah, OCC has been stealing the limelight on that side of ortigas center, and some even say OCC is more attractive.

i will have to say though that Union Bank complements OCC's beauty.

i was wondering, is the ground elevation at Unionbank's area really low? If you look from afar, the BSA Twin Towers look a lot higher than the Unionbank Plaza.

maybe because BSA Twins are really a lot higher than UnionBank. i don't notice any terrains on that area of ortigas.

^^ true. I think the BSA twins are much taller than originally thought. 197 meters might only be the roof height.

if that the case bsa twins are taller than golden empire, 1 metre is the difference between get and unionbank

I like the structure of this building. but i don't know if it's just me but i think the glass tint isn't good. it's glass alright, but i think it absorbs too much of the light it looks boring at a certain lighting. but when the lighting is good though, oh my, it's stunning. 8.5/10
