Greetings from Canada!
I've chosen the wonderful Japan to do my term paper on, and I need some help from Japanese natives (and even foreign expats) please!
What would you say, from the list, is the three major problems facing contemporary Japanese democracy (from the past 30 years to now)?
-Nationhood and citizenship
-The rule of law and access to justice
-Civil and Political Rights
-Economic and social rights
-Free and fair elections
-Democratic role of political parties
-Government accountability and effectiveness
-Civilian control of the military and police
-Minimising corruption
-The media in a democratic society
-Political participation
-Government responsiveness
-Decentralisation
-Democracy beyond the state (external influence)
As of yet, I believe that corruption and external influence has largely been a barrier to democracy (even though it as been improving).
Please contradict my decision and suggest other factors listed.
