alitezar March 4th, 2007, 08:46 AM Hi all,
Here you can post your favorite Persian song clips or funny dance ones from youtube or any where you wish.
It will be so fun to share your favorite music with others :)
Most of the Persian singers live in Los Angeles and produce their clips there.
Here are some of my favorite Persian songs
********Please respect each person's opinion and do not make fun of the musics they like and post since every individual's taste is different from others.

Omid_Sultani March 4th, 2007, 07:47 PM what? this is in Iran?

is it really? the lamborghini video?
Yes Mahdi, those 2 videos I posted here are Iranian. The singer is Mohammad Ghazizadeh. The Lamborgini-video is atleast partly filmed in Dubai.
Omid_Sultani March 4th, 2007, 07:51 PM Is that Laleh the one who is living is Sweden? If that is, then I live in the same city & almost went into the same high-school she went to.
shugs March 4th, 2007, 07:51 PM Something that gets me about all these young Iranian 'popstars' is that honestly they are not all that rich.. especially as most of the music is instantly pirated throughout the world and Iranians much prefer this method instead of paying for it.. not to mention these musics are not freely available throughout the world for regular record stores...
So what I was getting at is the videos.. Quite often there is an expensive Lamborghini and women in bikinis, strippers/pole dancers etc etc etc.. All these videos are beemed straight into Iran via satalite... Now I have seen a few 'making ofs' for these videos, almost all of the young artists hire these cars (which is the reason they do not often drive them in the video but instead have a half naked woman rubbing herself against the car)... These videos are effectively poisening the minds of the Iranian youth..
We (living abroad) can cut through the BS and we know it's just a music video, women do not all walk through the streets wearing bikinis (perhaps they do near beaches) and they do not often rub themselves up against cars (yeh ok I am being a bit sarcy here).. But as I said, we have the rationale to understand this is fantasy because we live in such 'free' climates..
Where as Iranians living in Iran DO NOT... they see this as being next to reality and therefore pine to live/move abroad and when they do see the reality is far from what they expected, often living in stark conditions with next to no money until they eventually start working 14/16 hours a day for the next 5-10 years OR give up and move back to Iran...
Sorry if you don't like my post, but these are often the social implications of these videos being obsessed by the domestic Iranian youth.

I read somewere that only the guitarplayer of System of a down is half-Iranian, half Iraqi. :P Rest are from Lebanon.
Omid_Sultani March 11th, 2007, 12:21 AM Iranian metal. It's so bad. Still better than Idin-style singers. :P
shugs March 11th, 2007, 12:37 AM Erm.. They are not Lebanese.. three are Armenians man... Because I was born in the UK am I English? :|
hundreds of results from Google... System of a down + bio:
Malakian, singer Serj Tankian, bassist Shavo Odadjian and drummer John Dolmayan, bonded quickly as friends but also shared Armenian ancestry and mutual disdain for perceived limitations. Their disparate tastes – Jaco Pastorious, Slayer, The Beatles, Faith No More, traditional Armenian folk music – assured from the onset that this would be a band less ordinary.

shugs March 11th, 2007, 12:46 AM I think it's Malakian who has family in Iran.. I read it in some interview in VH1 me thinks...
Omid_Sultani March 11th, 2007, 01:41 AM Well Sanchez, By nationality 2 are from Lebanon 1 from Armenia, while Malakian is half Iranian Armenian/half Iraqi Armenian, the rest are Lebanese Armenian.
We have a Iranian singer called Andy, he is also Iranian Armenian.
Yep shugs, Malakian is the one with family in Iran. :)

Marcialou March 30th, 2007, 09:00 PM I just watched some of the music clips. I was curious about the man who was dancing in an effeminate way. It was labeled funny, so am I right to assume this is not the way Iranian men dance today. Was he making fun of women dancing? That's what it looked like to me.
I also liked the wedding video, but can someone explain what was going on? The women dancing with flower took money from the groom. The bride seemed to want to exhange money for the flower but she didn't succeed. The groom was given the flower in exchange for money by the last woman. There must be some very interesting symbolism here, but it wasn't obvious to me.
Someone mentioned that they do sword dances at weddings too. I'd like to see a video of that if anyone knows of any available.
I found a quote from some old Roman who lived hundreds of years after the Achaemenids who said Cyrus led his people in their national dance. So now I'm researching ancient Persian folk dancing. If anyone has any clips of men, or men and women together doing any kind of folk dancing, I'd appreciate seeing them. I'm a folk dancer myself, so I'd love to have a scene of the king leading his people in dance.
Thanks,
Marcia
alitezar March 31st, 2007, 05:46 PM ^^ The guy in the video that was lebeld funny was imitating one of the famous Persian dance instructors whose name is Khordadian. That's why he was funny and as for the wedding, in Persian weddings usually girls whom are close friends or relatives of bride and groom take the wedding knife and dance with it and they don't give it to the bride and groom to cut the cake unless they give them some money and it's for fun. It can switch between 2 or more girls and that's as far as I know and I don't know if it means something else too.
As for the king's dance I don't know any videos but someone (perhaps Shugs) :) would have a better clue about them.
Hope it answered your questions abit :)
Marcialou March 31st, 2007, 06:16 PM Mohammed Khordadian! That's the guy who was arrested for dancing in Iran and given a 10 year suspended sentence! He was forbidden to leave Iran for 10 years, although he had lived and worked in Los Angeles for 20 years. I think that was in 2002. Is he still stuck in Iran, where he can't even pursue his profession?
What do you think of his dancing? I assume the comic was exaggerating a bit. Do you think Khordadian might be dancing in a manner once more common for ancient Persian men? I know they did sword dancing which must have been very macho, but maybe they did more graceful, erotic dancing too.
As to the wedding clip - that was a knife? I thought it was a flower. I could tell it was all in fun, in any case.
Thanks for the info,
Marcia
PS: Here's a picture of Khordadian. I can see how he could be parodied by the funny man in the video.
http://i153.photobucket.com/albums/s226/marcialouu/khordadian.jpg
alitezar March 31st, 2007, 10:42 PM ^^ you are very welcome.
Actually Khordadian got out a short while after they arrested him I think illegally and he is still in L.A dancing yayyyyy
shugs March 31st, 2007, 10:45 PM ^^ And dressing as a woman while he's at it

this is the only video I can think about, 'Ronak' by Bijan M. the dance is typical for the lorestan/kordestan regions.

Marcialou April 1st, 2007, 06:47 AM Thanks Gilgamesh. That's a terrific video. The music is great and the dancing athletic. Even the women looked very strong and the men - I could watch them alll day. Very different from Mohamed Khordadian, I gather, but I am glad to here is out of jail and doing what he does best.

Altho a lot of people are going to want to shoot me down for going back on my beliefs on 'Persian pop'... But this KaHoo track is pretty good and the video is not all too shabby either...
Even tho I despise the one with the long hair, nose job and extremely thinly plucked eye brows... what? does he think he's Michael Jackson.. NO, Janet Jackson?... In addition I find it a bit of a slap in the face these two batche Mosalmoon parade around wearing Farahavars on their cloths like it's a fashion item, soo fake... Especially as odds are they do not believe in one thing it represents. Would be surprised if they even know what it does.
Regardless... Good track, very catchy.

alitezar June 5th, 2007, 12:38 AM Omid.. how come he speaks Hebrew?
uAHQ8nmnAJo&mode=related&search=
As I have heard apprently his wife is Jewish and they used to live in Israel. But I don't know how he moved there.
Metsada June 5th, 2007, 12:51 AM ok thanks.
mahdial_x5 June 5th, 2007, 02:13 AM Omid has a interesting background.
He's from Khuzestan, fought in the Iran-Iraq war, moved to America, married a Jewish Israeli lady, and does concerts everywhere.
By the way, Omid himself is Muslim.
Gilgamesh June 5th, 2007, 09:55 AM ^^
do you know WHAT THAY GUY DID?! Many Iranians in Iran hate him now (although i still like his music, he has a GREAT voice, along with Moein of course as well :D)
on the day of ASHURA he went to Israel to perform a concert :wallbash:
what an idiot
but, i still love his music (espeially the old ones from 10+ years ago :))
lol
I don't understand, Why does giving a concert on Ashura make him an idiot?Maybe his believes are different, maybe he doesn't believe in shiism. Does every single person in the world have to weep on ashura? ... each to his own. :bash:
mahdial_x5 June 6th, 2007, 02:11 AM ^^ he is Muslim, and a Shia
Gilgamesh June 6th, 2007, 06:55 PM ^ Apparently he isn't pious enough to care what a few zealots think of him.

When you go to the song you want to the right of the video clip it says about this video.. Then click on "more"
Copy the link that is called URL and paste it in your post like this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KxUOsHyMxYQ
then copy whatever there is after the = sign like below:
KxUOsHyMxYQ
Then place the "KxUOsHyMxYQ" between [youtube]
Then your video gets posted :)

The Kamancheh (pronounced kæmancheh) is a traditional Iranian instrument used in classic and folk music of Iranic cultures. Kamancheh literally means "little bow" (kæman = "bow," -cheh = suffix meaning "little").

The "daf" is a framed drum played in traditional and folklore music of Iranian peoples, especially by Persians and Kurds. It is also used a lot in Sufi practices.

Shapoor May 16th, 2009, 09:58 PM Guys did you just see Arash singing for Azarbaijan in Eurovision? What a fucking sellout. A persian guy that has parents from the Iranian cities of Shiraz and Isfahan singing for a totally irrelevant country. That shit sucked to the extreme.
arashmordad May 16th, 2009, 10:04 PM ^^ seriously? I heard there was an Arash singing for Azerbaijan but I didn't know it was this Arash. Oh well, I'm actually not that surprised, we are having alot of Iranian sellouts these days, lol. And I thought Arash was Iranian Azeri?
Shapoor May 16th, 2009, 10:08 PM No he's actually fully Persian. And even if he was an Iranian Azari it was wrong.
arashmordad May 16th, 2009, 10:17 PM ^^ thats what it says here. It says "he has Azerbaijani roots." but I believe you more http://www.eurovision.tv/event/artistdetail?song=24694&event=1481#biography
I wouldn't be surprised if he was fully Persian though.
Shapoor May 16th, 2009, 10:29 PM ^^ I wouldn't be surprised if that came out from the mouth of a sellout! I hope Iranian people react to that in a proper manner.
Here's a link of his interview with the BBC confirming his roots: http://www.bbc.co.uk/persian/arts/story/2005/02/050211_ag-arash-interview.shtml
Also states it on his wiki page with valid reference: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arash_(artist)
arashmordad May 16th, 2009, 10:47 PM ^^ I see, wow maybe he himself is confused about where he comes from, lol. Funny you mentioned Wiki cuz if you go into the 'discussion" of Arash they are debating what his roots are, lol. I don't really care anyway, not a big fan of Arash to tell you the truth.
Also, the Azeri girl he is singing with is "Aysal Teymurzadeh." Do many Azeris have Iranian suffixes and names or could she be of Iranian descent?
alitezar May 17th, 2009, 06:19 AM hmm...i smell advertising...
Jeeeeeez, It's not advertissing at all, if I wanted to advertise there will be many other ways to do it, I'm just providing cool persian links to you guys, if u want to use it or not is ur own choice....

Diegovf90 June 2nd, 2009, 04:28 AM Though this topic is not adapted..why not to put Freddy Mercury as part of the Persian legacy to the music??
so his says biography. Freddy Mercury belongs to Persian ancestors who migrated to the India for religious motives and in addition it is inspired by Hindu and Persian in strict sense music
Biography of Freddy Mercury
Mercury was born Farrokh Bulsara, on the island of Zanzibar, off the coast of Tanzania. His parents Bomi and Jer Bulsara,[a] were Parsis from the Gujarat region of the then province of Bombay Presidency in British India.[9][b] The family surname is derived from the town of Bulsar (also known as Valsad) in southern Gujarat. As Parsis, the family practiced the Zoroastrian religion. The Bulsara family had moved to Zanzibar in order for his father to continue his job as a cashier at the British Colonial Office. He had one younger sister, Kashmira.[10]
In 1954, at the age of eight, Freddie was shipped to St. Peter's School, a boarding school for boys in Panchgani near Bombay (now Mumbai), India.[11] At St. Peter's, he was a bright student who excelled at several sports. He was especially adept at boxing, with a strong left hook. At school, he formed a popular school band, called The Hectics, for which he played the piano. A friend from the time recalls that he "had an uncanny ability to listen to the radio and replay what he heard on piano."[12] It was also at St. Peter's where he began to call himself "Freddie". Mercury remained in India for most of his childhood, living with his grandmother and aunt. He completed his education in India at St. Mary's ISC -Mumbai
At the age of 17, Mercury and his family fled from Zanzibar as a result of the 1964 Zanzibar Revolution.[6] The family moved into a small house in Feltham, London. Mercury enrolled at Isleworth Polytechnic (now West Thames College) in West London where he studied art. He ultimately earned a Diploma in Art and Graphic Design at Ealing Art College, later using these skills in order to design the Queen crest. Mercury remained a British citizen for the rest of his life.
Following graduation, Mercury joined a series of bands and sold second-hand clothes in the Kensington Market in London. He also held a job at Heathrow airport. Friends from the time remember him as a quiet and shy young man who showed a great deal of interest in music.[13] In 1969 he formed the band Ibex, which was later renamed Wreckage. When this band failed to take off, he joined a second band called Sour Milk Sea. However, by early 1970, this group broke up as well.[14]
In April 1970, Mercury joined with guitarist Brian May and drummer Roger Taylor who had previously been in a band called Smile, and despite reservations from the other members, Mercury chose the name "Queen" for the new band. He later said about the band's name, "I was certainly aware of the gay connotations, but that was just one facet of it."[15] At around this time, he also legally changed his name.[citation needed]

KavkAZ1 July 9th, 2009, 12:37 AM Guys did you just see Arash singing for Azarbaijan in Eurovision? What a fucking sellout. A persian guy that has parents from the Iranian cities of Shiraz and Isfahan singing for a totally irrelevant country. That shit sucked to the extreme.
Actually, as an Azerbaijani, i enjoyed it. Thanks to Arash for what he did.
I don't see why it would be bad from an Iranian point of view?
Everyone know hes Iranian, don't worry.
KavkAZ1 July 9th, 2009, 12:40 AM ^^ I see, wow maybe he himself is confused about where he comes from, lol.
Zade ending names aren't that rare in Azerbaijan.
For exampele our prime ministers name is Artur Rasizade.

That is interesting. "zade" in farsi means "to be born of", kinda like Arabic "ibn." For instance "Teymurzade" means "offspring of Teymur." Does it have the same meaning in Azeri?

It has no meaning in our language but i know that its Persian.
Omid_Sultani July 10th, 2009, 09:19 PM In Azeri, offspring is doghan. Zade = doghan. They are probably named like that in Azerbaijan Republic because it was under Iranian influence for a long time.

Shmack August 6th, 2009, 06:03 AM Hi, not sure if it's the right topic to post my question, but anyway.. couldn't you help me with identifying one old song, probably from 60's or 70's? Somewhy i think it was written by some armenian singer (i don't think it was Vigen), though i could be mistaken. I just remember its refrain to start with smth like
hala beraghs o afsoon bokon...
There's also much of dance music in that song.
Unfortunately don't quite remember anything more
Thank yoou! :)

The first National Anthem of Iran was composed by J. B. Lemaire in the time of Naseraddin Shah. It was originally composed for a piano solo and played only once during the journey of that Shah to France. This hymn is rearranged and composed by Siavah Beizai. The introduction, the middle part and the end part of this piece don't belong to Lemair are but composed by Siavash Beizai, which serve as a formal and musical strenthening of a real National Anthem. The lyric is from Bizhan Taraghghi, written for this arrangement. This is the first complete performance of this anthem by a woman.
So, it's not the original anthem but a reimagination.
