Macau will introduce three-year secondary schooling system from the next academic year.
In the Education Council meeting held yesterday (7 March), the Government proposed to introduce three-year infants schooling from September 2007, and three-year senior secondary schooling from September 2008.
Schools can continue to provide five-year secondary education to pupils until they are due to be graduated in 2012.
Five-year secondary schooling system are currently used in evening schools and in those whose medium of instruction is English.
Meanwhile, the Government will set standards for the hardware planning of schools, so that pupils will have sufficient space for activities.
The average space area for each pupil in Macau's schools stands between 5 and 6.5 square metres, according to an investigation conducted by a consulting firm in Singapore.
