is there any skyscrapers in Nicosia or the are plans to build?

there are three 14stories buildings that will be built in nicosia,i have posted pics of their drawings in another thread.
the building rules in cyprus permit only 12 floors,but with buildings of 14floors already allowed i think we will soon see some taller buildings,there are very few empty pieces of land left in the city center and bc of the high demand ,going taller is the only solution.
there are many 11 and 12 floor buildings in nicosia already,i will try to get a pic of each one of them and post it

I hope I will not end up creating false hopes but I have been told by a reliable source (someone in the construction business) that he knows about around 8 high rise projects which have been approved by special permission (thus getting around the 15 floor limit that exists in the Nicosia building codes), among them a 20 floor tower to be built somewhere near Starbucks.

Besides that it seems several new 10+ floor buildings will start springing up soon in the center of Nicosia, one new example is: http://www.glykeriou-gardens.com/new_stasic.htm

i was told the same,that some high rises are planne for nicosia (15-20 floors). hope they will become reality soon and that we will catch up in this sector with other countries.

I'm glad Cyprus is moving with the times!
What is the reason for the 12 story limit though?

the limit is 16 floors that with special permission can become 20 floors.
i thought it was 12 floors also until some time ago when i asked an architect.
the reason why they didnt build anything taller is for safety reasons bc of earthquackes.
but i think that a few 18-20 floor buildings(maybe 10 of them) are more than enough to change nicosia`s skyline

Βασικά μην κάνεις copy to url κάνε δεξί κλίκ πάνω στην φωτο και επέλεξε "copy image location" και μετά βάλε αυτό το url μέσα στο πλαίσιο.

I wonder if anyone could update the emporis.com page for Nicosia, it seems terribly incomplete and out of date.
Also (from a quick scan of emporis.com) here is a list of some places that are doing better than Nicosia in the area of high rises: Luxemburg, Malta, Mauritius, Gaza, Kabul...

What's the highest building in Cyprus?

Difficult to say...some sources (such as wikipedia) put the shacolas tower in old nicosia at 45 meters. emporis.com mentions a 16 floor bank building in northern nicosia, but there is no picture and I have no idea of where exactly that would be located... Besides that there are also the 440 year old minarets of the agia sofia (selimiye mosque) in old nicosia which are about 50 meters tall (according to some websites)...I have no idea if there is a taller building in the other cities (maybe one of the hotels in famagusta)...
