2007 brings me to India. Here are some photos from my visit to Mumbai, India's financial capital.

1. Mumbai doesn't have many skyscrapers in its core. This shot of the Colaba area shows a few tall buildings, but not supertalls.

2. Taxis remain rather ancient.

3. Looking out towards the Arabian Sea.

4. The view of the Queen's Necklace.

5. Looking east :

6. Enjoying a salmon :

7. Enjoying the hot sunset.

9. Walking the streets is like a step back in time. I can't believe these buses are still running!

11. Nariman Point is the traditional financial district in Mumbai, which has a mix of both commercial and residential buildings.

15. Traffic-watching

18. Although the weather was fairly hot at about 35C in the afternoon, the air was dry, so it actually felt not bad. Not a drop of rain fell during my stay. It's the winter ... it's sunny everyday.

19. More skyscraper viewing around Nariman Point :

27. There is quite a large stock of fairly distinctive architecture, much of which is old and crumbling. Some look better maintained, such as these ones :

The building in picture 27 really shows that British flavour is still very much alive in Bombay...;)

i don't understand what's with the colourfull cars, with all the stickers and drawings and paintings and statuetes! is it like a religious thing? i know in pakistan (or i hope i'm getting it wright) they have these colourfull ornated buses, much like the cabs seen above, but pakistan has a different religion, so...

^^^^

Nothing's religious. Some buses (Double Decker ones) are painted according to the color of the Advertisement. Mostly they are red. Taxis in Bombay are Black and Yellow. The different designs you see on the cars is just what they call "autographix". But I don't believe people do it as having religious sentiments or reasons unless there is a picture of God drawn on the car itself!
