Herodotus, you must have been all over the place this past week. Thanks for the photos. Charlotte looks great. I was passing through last weekend and stopped in Fort Mill, SC to get gas (cool little town about 15 miles south of Charlotte) and look over toward the horizon and I can see the towers of Charlotte like a little Emerald City. It was great.

Not to offend any of you Atl'ers out there which I don't really give a fuck cause this thread is on its way to hell anyway, but I think Atls skyline would look much better if it was all together instead of stretched out like that. It looks like someone just took atls skyline and slung it around and laid it down.

Drive through the city on I-20, then ask yourself that question.

At any rate, it's obvious that Charlotte's skyline is taking more of a Houston approach, with a much more compact downtown core.

I think the south has the potential of having another city included in America's top 10 or12 US skylines, being Charlotte, Nc. I already include Atlanta and Miami in my personal top 10 US skylines...Atlanta, for it's extradinary post modern architecture and very unique linear skyline which is reminiscent to that of Frankfurt, Germany and Dubai. Clustered skylines are the norm and its rather interesting seeing a few linear skylines with awesome architecture. It gives you a better opportunity to view the many different pieces of art. Miami, for the fact of the neverending sea of highrise residential towers and the ocean definitely has an luminary effect on those scrapers, beautiful.
Charlotte, in about 10 years could defintely be a player or should I say a more recognized player in the US skyscraper scene...good architecture already online, B of A magnificent, well designed future projects coming on line
and future development that's sure to be impressive, no doubt.
Charlotte, keep up the good work skyline is looking good

Charlotte's skyline reminds me of Cleveland. Key Tower and BOA are similar. Great pics.

In regard to those who had to throw ATL in here, our linear skyline is unique but coming into town from the south on I-75 allows some incredible views. When you round one turn downtown, you can see this really long line of skyscrapers stretched out and then look over to the far left and see two more skylines in the distance. It's all about opinion.

I don't get it? Would you rather have an 80 story tower right beside BofA? Eventually, towers would be built around the new 80 story tower, making everything right again. (if there is an 80 story tower) :)

I think the trump tower would be built across from the new Wachovia somewhere...right? If so, the trump tower would not look so out of place.

This tower would be built a block off 277, so I don't think that the skyline would ever look anything but lopsided if that end were to build up so dramatically.

All things considered there are worse things that could happen, but from a purely aesthetic point of view this might look a little weird.

WHAT? I went to Atlanta last month, and lived there from 2001-03! You must be kidding if you think that skyline looks anything like Buckhead's in 5 years. Charlotte's skyline is much more comparable to Downtown ATL.

If Trump builds Uptown's tallest at the site being considered, it will be perpetually unsurrounded between S. Tryon and 277. A similar effect can be seen with downtown Seattle's view from the ferry vantage point. The tallest building happens to sit at the very southern end of the CBD, and doesn't look lop sided at all.

Yes, it does. By the time this tower would be complete, the skyline would have much more of an east-west axis than it currently does. For the time being, almost all photos are taken from the north or south, where you get a full view of the Tryon canyon.

Of course, another way to look at this would be to consider BoA/Hearst a northern "bookend" and Trump/Wachovia the southern "bookend". By that standard, the "middle" of the skyline would be somewhere around the older Wachovia One, which ironically was the centerpiece of the city 25 years ago.

I remember the excitement when NCNB Plaza (now known as BofA Plaza) first opened in 1974. Not only was it Charlotte's tallest building from 1974-1988, for many years it was also known to be the tallest building between Philadelphia and Atlanta.

After all these current towers on the table are built, BofA Plaza will be lucky to remain in the "top ten tallest" list of Charlotte's highrises!:omg:
