candida May 15th, 2007, 07:02 PM Yes, this building has planning approval and building works is set to take place over the next year or so.
PAC_MAN July 7th, 2007, 07:04 PM Great work candida, work is imminent on site and hopefully we will have a webcam as development begins, so we can see its progress!
Myster E July 7th, 2007, 07:15 PM Congrats to Leicester which seems to be overshadowed by Nottingham at times, beautiful and cosy city and glad its getting a high class highrise planned. The building seems a lot taller than 117m, I'd say it looks closer to 150-170m and almost as big as Beetham Manchester. How many floors will this have and what are floor to ceiling heights?
poshbakerloo July 7th, 2007, 07:22 PM wow looks great!
Leicity82 July 7th, 2007, 08:41 PM The tallest tower will have 39 storeys (117m), the second tallest 26 storeys (79m) and the shortest 20 storeys (61m)-stats from skyscrapernews website. :)
Kurt Nirvana July 7th, 2007, 11:42 PM There’s a post on the Leicester thread that states that there are Diggers now on site.
WAZZA July 10th, 2007, 05:39 PM does anybody know who the structural engineers are for this?
tugavalenciano July 10th, 2007, 05:55 PM GOOD
Leicity82 July 10th, 2007, 10:42 PM does anybody know who the structural engineers are for this?
According to the website, a contractor is being chosen with their 'world famous' engineers-if that's any help.
WAZZA July 11th, 2007, 12:17 PM yeah, thats what I read too! Thanks for your help.
candida August 1st, 2007, 03:58 PM The diggers that are currently present are performing archaelogical digs, prior to any builders moving to site. The site is near the centre and has many Roman remains and other historical interest.

Here's hoping they don't find owt of 'international significance' like the first Tesconius Metrodium founded in 120AD.

Or something like the Roman curse tablet found nearby on the Highcross Leicester site - cursing the person who pinched the cape of the writer!
ZZ-II August 4th, 2007, 04:14 PM This looks really great!

Captain Redeye August 5th, 2007, 02:37 AM A few years ago we would never have imagined this .. not only proposed but actually approved and apparently in the process of tendering for construction companies :)

Leicity82 August 7th, 2007, 08:35 PM For those of you who don't know where Leicester is:
It's situated in the East Midlands region of England, right in the centre of the country. It has great links to London from the motorway and is the first city after London on the Midland Mainline railway line.
Leicester will be a city to look out for within the next few years, as it has great ambitions and hopefully more skyscrapers too! :)
Captain Redeye January 14th, 2008, 10:56 PM Official height measurements don't include a glass roof section or anything else above the highest structural component. It is quite clear from the renders that the building is in fact 40 storeys tall as the top level in the skybar is double height, giving a floor count of 39. This gives an overall height of around 43 floors to the roof, which at 10ft per floor (some of the lower ones appear to be more than this) we are looking at at least 430ft (131m) to the top of the building with an official height of 400ft+ (122m+) :)
