Strong winds, rain lash city
DOHA • Life in the city was paralysed for several hours yesterday as strong winds and moderate to heavy rains hit the city and its outskirts yesterday evening. At around 3.30pm, there were signs of things to come.

The unstable weather is expected to continue until noon today, according to the Met Office. Motorists as well as pedestrians had a tough time battling the sudden squall. Many parts of the city witnessed heavy rains, which were accompanied by blustery near gale force winds.

A number of accidents were also reported, as the winds played havoc with cars and buildings. A four-wheeler parked off D-Ring Road was damaged when shoddily installed scaffolding collapsed at a building undergoing renovation. Casualties were avoided because there was no one at the site at the time of the accident.

According to the Met Office, the sudden change in the weather was caused by a low pressure system which had formed over central Saudi Arabia, bringing in the winds and rain. The flash rains and winds resulted from a combination of cold air on the upper layer and warm air in the lower layer of the atmosphere. The winds intermittently changed direction due the sheer force of the gusts.

The cold winds are expected to bring down the temperature today considerably. The maximum temperature recorded yesterday was 32 degrees Celsius, which is expected to come down to 26 degrees Celsius today. Yesterday's minimum temperature was 18 degrees Celsius which is expected to settle at 16 degrees Celsius later today.

I head the City Centre cinemas all lost electricity at one point and that they felt the entire City Centre shake... we had all of our chairs fly into the pool, which was pretty bad. My mother was in Hyatt Plaza that day and she said a pole had collapsed onto a brand new car, the poor people!

But seriously what the hell is up with the weather this year? Strangest i've ever seen!
