Aizu-wakamatsu castle(鶴ヶ城(Tsuruga-jyou))is a traditional fortress in northern Japan, at the center of the town of Aizuwakamatsu, in Fukushima Prefecture.

The castle was constructed by Ashina Naomori in 1384, and was originally named Kurokawa Castle.
The castle was surrounded in 1868 during the Boshin War. After a month of isolated defence, Matsudaira Katamori surrendered. It was broken by the new government in 1874.

a tragedy of Byakkotai(白虎隊)
One day in 1868, nineteen boys committed ritual suicide on Iimoriyama, a hill on the edge of Wakamatsu City, the capital of their lord's domain. The boys were members of the Byakkotai (White Tiger Brigade), a corps of young samurai in the service of the Aizu daimyo. They were sixteen and seventeen years of age by Japanese count--meaning that in Western terms, some may have been as young as fourteen.
Engaged in a last-ditch effort to defend their domain, the boys intended to follow their lord to his death when they saw smoke in the distance and mistakenly identified it as a fire destroying Tsurugajou, the daimyo's castle. The war was lost and the castle was eventually destroyed, but the daimyo himself lived well into old age...............

after that AIzu-ppl were discriminated because of rebel army
they were moved to many northern poor rural towns.
they were also the Japanese first immigrant to USA.

Aizu ppls ,Their earnest wishes were to have revived this castle.
the largest tower of the castle, was reconstructed in 1965. Currently there is a museum inside, and an observation gallery on top with a rather nice view.

Azuchi-castle(安土城)and ruins.......Nobunaga Oda

Azuchi Castle (安土城, Azuchi-jō?) was one of the primary castles of Oda Nobunaga. It was built from 1576 to 1579, on the shores of Lake Biwa, in Omi Province. Nobunaga intentionally built it close enough to Kyoto that he could watch over and guard the approaches to the capital, but, being outside the city, his fortress would be immune to the fires and conflicts that occasionally consumed the capital. This location was also quite strategically advantageous, in managing the communications and transportation routes between his greatest foes - the Uesugi clan to the north, Takeda clan in the east, and Mōri clan to the west[1].

Unlike earlier castles and fortresses, Azuchi was not intended to be solely a military structure, cold, dark, and foreboding. Nobunaga intended it as a lavish mansion, which would impress and intimidate his rivals, not only with its defenses, but with its lavish apartments and decorations, and flourishing town and religious life. The keep, called Tenshukaku, rather than being the center of the castle's defences, was a seven-story building containing audience halls, private chambers, offices, and a treasury, as though it were a royal palace. In addition to being one of the first Japanese castles with a tower keep, Azuchi was unique in that its uppermost story was octagonal. In addition, the facade of Azuchi, unlike the solid white or black of other castles, was colorfully decorated with tigers and dragons.............

Sunomata Castle (墨俣城) was a Japanese castle near Ogaki in Gifu Prefecture. It was constructed by Toyotomi Hideyoshi, one of the generals of Oda Nobunaga,
while they were doing a siege on the Inabayama Castle. Hideyoshi also found a secret path into the castle and they found Saito Tatsuoki.
Oda Nobunaga put him in exile as they were victorious in this war. According to legend, Sunomata Castle was built overnight. Today, it is referred to as
Sunomata Ichiya Castle. "Ichiya" means "overnight." The castle tower has been reconstructed to serve as a local history museum.

Hi Grams,ALKUN ...
thanks...
there were many castles(about 30?) in Okinawa and Ishigaki
ruins.... http://jyu-bako.vis.ne.jp/ISHIGAKI/okin.html
http://www5.ocn.ne.jp/~umasijin/gusuku/gusukutop1.html

Nakagusuku castle
Matthew Calbraith Perry, He also spoke very highly of this castle.
The ruins of Nakagusuku Castle face the Pacific, overlooking Nakagusuku Bay and located on a plateau of Ryukyuan limestone approximately 150 meters in elevation

The ruins consist of six enclosures, with the main gate on the west side and a rear gate built in the back. Entering the Gusuku through the main gate, the first long and narrow wall of the western enclosure stretches out. This area was used in ancient times to conduct cavalry drills. Going down to the left side of the western enclosure there is a well. Opposite the well and passing through the left hand stone gate there is a place thickly covered by foliage where prayers are offered...........

Yamato-Takatori castle ,Nara prefecture
http://www.shirofan.com/photo_library/takatori_jou.html

Takatori Castle is a typical mountain top castle built on the summit of Mt. Takatori, 584 meters above seas level, which served as the residence for many historic characters from the Period of North and South Dynasties in the 14th Century to until the Meiji Restoration. Today, only the stone walls remain, but the majesty of castle area at 60,000 square meters and the environs said to extend 30 kilometers may still surprise you. Additionally, the contrast between the autumn colors, red, yellow, green, orange, and the stone walls has a reputation for great beauty.

The stone walls are not the only attraction at Takatori Castle, the views from them are also superb. From the observation point called “Kunimi-Yagura” you can see across the Yamato-Heiya plains, and when the weather is favorable, you can see the buildings of east Osaka.

There are many such attractions at Takatori Castle. You can relax in the natural surroundings or take in the views. Come and see for yourselves.

Kagagawa castle, shizuoka prefecture
Kakegawa-jo was first established in 1513 by Asahina Yasuhiro. In 1569 his descendent, Asahina Yasutomo lost the castle to Tokugawa Ieyasu's forces. Tokugawa placed Imagawa Yoshitada and his son Yasumichi in charge of the castle. In 1590 the area was absorbed by Toyotomi Hideyoshi who replaced the Imagawa with Yamanouchi Kazutoyo. Yamanouchi renovated the castle and donjon into what you see today. After the Battle of Sekigahara, the castle was controlled by the Tokugawa until it was torn down after the Meiji Restoration.

Iwakuni castle ,Yamaguchi prefecture
This castle was constructed by Kikkawa Hiroie from 1601 to 1608 as his own castle. Kikkawa was a retainer of a vassal of the Shogun under the Mori clan. However, this castle was dismantled as per the Ikkoku-ichijo (一国一城, literally, "One Castle Per Province") order established by the Tokugawa Shogunate in 1615. The famous Kintai Bridge was originally a bridge to the main gate of the castle. After the destruction of the castle, Kikkawa used a part of the old castle as his residential office. A replica of the castle tower stands high on a hill above the Nishiki River and the Kintai Bridge in the city of Iwakuni, Yamaguchi Prefecture. The Kikkawa clan held this castle and Iwakuni Han, which was assessed at 30 000 (later 60 000) koku

there are more than 1600 castles even today.

Hamamatsu city
Hamamatsu (浜松市, Hamamatsu-shi?) is a city located in western Shizuoka Prefecture, Japan.
It is the largest city in Shizuoka Prefecture. On July 1, 2005 the city merged with 11 surrounding cities and towns.
It became a city designated by government ordinance on April 1, 2007
Geography
Hamamatsu consists of a flat plain and the Mikatahara Plateau in the south, and mountainous area in the north.
It is roughly bordered by the Lake Hamana in the west, the Tenryū River in the east, and the Pacific Ocean in the south.
The climate in southern Hamamatsu is mild with 0 cm average snow precipitation in winters,
but it is windy in winter because of the dry monsoon called Enshu no Karakkaze which is unique to the region.

The climate in northern Hamamatsu is much more harsh because of föhn winds. In summers, the highest temperature often goes over 35 degrees in Tenryu-ku, while it snows in winter

Hamamatsu city is called " little Brasil"
Hamamatsu's extent is the 2nd biggest city
However, google dont show its detail information on google earth yet.

Hamamatu castle

The Shogun Ieyasu Tokugawa, who established a line of Shogun that ruled Japan
during the Edo Era, built Hamamatsu Castle in 1570 when he was still a minor noble.
Hamamatsu and its castle, due to their central location, were of a strategic importance, and many important battles were fought nearby.
Those who became its lord later went on to important positions in the government. Hence its nickname: "The Castle of Success".
