Great looking tower, wish it gets built quickly.

I knew next to nothing about this city until I saw it here. I'm reading up on it now and looking at some images -- this city has a long, albeit painful, history but there's a history here... Some of the older buildings around Zhongshan Square look really interesting. :cheers:

Cut and paste of 大连市 (Dalian's) up and coming 超高层 (supertalls).

Based on approximate height and width comparisons to near by buildings. Dalian Eton towers are lower because they are actually at a lower elevation than their secondary towers. The proposed Greenland Center is the same elevation as the Wanda Towers (tallest 279m, black buildings just to the left of GC).

Quick update:

Cladding is being put on, core is rising fast. Steel on tower pictured nearly reaches the cranes, so I guess the cranes will move up soon too.

From ten days ago, but interesting. Taken during a protest in Dalian concerning a potentially highly dangerous chemical plant located below sea level that had a very close call during a recent tropical storm. The story I heard from three different groups of people was that if it had leaked the chemicals they could have killed millions within 40 minutes (never read that in the news though).

This is my last personal update for Dalian, I'm flying home to San Francisco tomorrow and then moving to go to UCLA. Doesn't seem that slow to me, just that the buildings happen to be HUGE. There is quite a bit of visible progress from the last couple of months. I just don't think you appreciate how large these towers are. Much bigger than anything (currently) in Manila that's for sure.

I myself does appreciate the complexity of the project. But I do agree they're much bigger than any other city...

^^ Picture quality seems so grainy...

But the construction progress gets faster though from the pictures. :)

I try to catch a good picture in the next few days, currently the glas cladding is done further upwards. Really amazing project!

Very impressive skyline. Have not been to Dalian for 8 years, it was no way like this before

this tower misses one meter to be the tenth tallest of china :lol:

They seem to be growing at very slow pace. I was in Dalian pretty much exactly 2 years ago and they were already u/c for quite some time back then.

Yeah, but the gate is already topped out. i think when this tower nears completion it will get more attention, after all this will be the tallest chinese tower completed in 2013

Some ugly buildings there, luckily these modern towers are very nice.

today CTBUH changed the completition date of the main tower from 2013 to 2014. the fact that the main tower only needs 100m to top out makes me think that the main tower will be topped out by maybe august, then 4 months for cladding and completing the tower indeed seems quite tight. so we will see :lol:

This tower already dominates the skyline. Nice.

i still have the hope this building can finish within the year :nuts: On CTBUH completion date always was on 2013, but then changed one day to 2014. If this building finishes this year it can be the tallest chinese building completed within the year, if not it will kinda be forgotten about when Shanghai Tower closes to its completion :lol:

very true! the main tower is massive, and 383m with a flat roof are alot!

Dalian is great. There may be some exceptions, but in general they only build high quality designs and they start everything they release pretty fast. No idle plots after ambitious annoucements as in any other city. If only, they deserve more supertalls. They lack a few more towers in their 300-350m.
