i cant say to much, but the towers are having some minor adjustments to the design, mostly to the tops of the towers( there are some helicopter pads that have to be placed) the atrium between the towers( entrance to the hotel and also the mall), ill post more when i know more

I've researched so much about this project on the Internet without results. I only found the renders and not even the name of the architects/studio, the height or the year of completion.

That hole is too deep and too big. I have feeling that they are constructing something else underground.

well... we are looking at 384m and 82 flrs, but there is a possibility that a floor might be knocked out to accomidate some more space in the podium.

also they are digging so deep because there is 5 floors of underground parking on the north side.

you also asked for some dates, we are rolling out the sd set by the middle of next week, which means we can start dd come october and that would last for a few months. While this is happening its very likely that the excavation would be done and they could start pouring the foundation.

Chinese Citys Dalliance With Super Tall

Yet another super tall project in China, this time in the city of Dalian, has started, almost without any fanfare.

Dalian is a city few readers outside of China and Korea will have heard of. Despite this it has a population of about three million that has been a development zone since 1984 and is one of the main centres for China's north-east region.

The project called the Dalian Yujing Centre is a multi-tower development composed of is composed of 1x81 floor building 384 metres tall, 1x60 floor building and 3x43 floor buildings. The firm who has designed the scheme is the American NBBJ Architects.

At ground level several of the towers including the tallest ones have their own landscaped plazas with the center of the plot covered largely by a huge glass canopy that will connect the buildings together. Underneath will be an enormous five floors of basement parking.

Puncturing the sides of the main two towers are a series of atriums glazed in transparent glass running from only a few floors to ten levels high big enough to house sky gardens with mature trees inside them. They help to open up the interior of the design and animate it more than a solidly clad finish would.

Work has already begun on the construction of the project with excavation, not a small job due to the amount of earth that needs to be moved for the basement, well under way. If everything goes to plan then foundation work should begin before Christmas.

The project is located in the golden commercial area in downtown Dalian (the original site of the animal zoo), with a floor space of 62,013.5 m2 and a total floor area around 800,000 m2, which is planned to attract a gross investment of over RMB 6 billion yuan , which consists of five high buildings and a commercial skirt building. It will be constructed into a large-scale architectural complex integrating a world-class luxury house, top-ranking office building, super 5-star international hotel, service apartment, commercial retail and entertainment. Its highest building has 81 floors, which, after completion, will become the landmark building of Dalian and the highest in the city.

The project is to be developed in two stages at present:


In the first stage, plans are under way to construct 3 apartment buildings with a height between 35 to 45 floors with a total floor area of around 220,000 m2;

In the second stage, plans are under way to construct super high hotels, commercial skirt buildings, hotel apartments and office buildings with a total floor area of about 400,000 m2. The two super high buildings are to be transformed into two super 5-star hotels of 60 and 80 floors respectively.

The project commenced in April 26, 2007, and is currently underway, due to be completed in 5 years. When are they starting the phase 2? You could tell us a few details about the new Eton project in Dalian waterfront too, btw. At least wether it will include big towers!

BTW, Shenyang announced that there's being planned a 1.2 million m2 project on a 90,000m2 plot, also by Eton. Some skyscrapers.cn forumers said there should be at least 1x350m~. Do you have some info?

hmm well the waterfront project is going to be more lowrise, about 10 stories, and will be locate on the peir, its big though, it cantilevers over the water too. anyways the shenyang project sound very familiar, i heard some people in the office talking about it i can see what i can dig up. oh and the cds are schedualed to be completed by march, and they will be building while we draw, so expect to see the foundations poured soon and the basement parking levels poured. also the whole structure is a steel frame project.

The three towers rising are the residential walls of 43 floors. The two big ones haven't been started as far as I know, foundation works might have started though.

The main body of the second tower (excluding podium and crown) has 57 floors. We don't know he height, but 57f x 4.28 would be 243m.

If you look at the elevation drawing closely, you will notice that the elevation of the sidewalk level is 15.5 m. on the main tower and ranges from 29 to 31 m. on the other towers. So, the main tower will actually be 388.4 m. and the other towers will be in the 146 m. range.

It could be sea level or city datum. This is not uncommon with elevation drawings.

According to some rumours, the design of the main tower(s) shall be changed and radically revised upwards. They say the main tower will be 450m+. Construction works would start over the next quarter.

Again, just rumours, we'll see..

They are also supposed to be studying a height increase according to unofficial sources. We'll see.

Is it weird if you have never heard of Dalian before? Because I haven't. I just googled it so now I know a bit about it but just an hour ago I didn't even know in which country it was. Is it a new city or something or just a small one? But nice towers.

^^ It's not a new city, medium-sized by Chinese standards, and developing very rapidly. It's on the 2nd or 3rd tier of Chinese cities, so it's not very well known in the outside world.

I find it difficult to understand how people get so excited about boxes, even if they are nice and glassy. What's the appeal? Oh well, everyone to his own :)

Well, to me, the previous render seemed a little bit blocky with both towers so close to each other. Also, the new one is thinner, so it looks taller. As far as design, it is nothing impressive, but it is a great improvement over its predacessor to me. :okay:

this project has an impressive basement, is that for parking? four basement storeys that cover the entire site... thats huge.

Once this thing got out of its hole its really taking off now.

A little faster lately. This project has been too slow all the time, hopefully it'll speed up now.

I love Dalian, tons of projects on going and none is tacky. All of them are stunning.
