Anyway, isn't this picture from Debre Berhan? It looks like Selassi kerk.. :|

Well actually, we say ''Gonder'' in Amharic. As for the church, there are plenty of old traditional churches in Ethiopia so i have no idea.

Have you ever been to Gondar?

Norkey
August 9th, 2008, 04:31 PM
no, but I'd like to go to Ethiopia or eastern african region once. I study now, so I don't have enough money for going there :) I've been only to Dubai so far.

The photo is from Gonder, but it is the Debre Berhan Selassie Church (so I can see where you could get confused).

Yes that's true, the Felashas (ethiopian jews) lives in this region but nearly 90% have left for Israel

No reason to move it now to the Ethiopia section. I had recreated the gallery in the Ethio section sometime ago since at the time it was not placed there. http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?t=969780

How is it demeaning? The castles are of Portuguese design and the buildings/cinemas/city square are of Italian's. Nothing antique about this architecture.

The castles at Gondar were influenced by the Portuguese, but they were also influenced more by Arabian, Indian, Nubian, and of course, Ethiopian architecture. There's no reason to say they're 'portuguese castles'. In fact, most of the castles were built after the Portuguese had been expeled from Ethiopia by Emperor Fasilides.
