This estate, is situated in the western part of the capital, in the Mosfilmovskaya Street area on the Vorobyovy Hills. The estate includes two high-rise buildings connected between themselves by parallel low-level sections.
The Building One is shaped as a rectangular helical tower. The core of the building consists of circular-shaped elevator halls on each level that function as a single upright threaded rod holding the composition of the building. The twisted building has its vertical dynamics, its architectural solution uses an original rhythm of window panes: the higher from the ground level, the larger the area of window panes. The facade is decorated with special plates of light-toned natural stone.
The second – the lower – high-rise building, uses several types of special glass: transparent, matte, and variously shaded.
The parallel sections connecting the two high-rise buildings face each other with their passage galleries of glass.

The spacious multi-lighted atrium lobby of the central entrance is decorated with natural rock of warm color, and paneled with honey-waxed wood. This area houses mini-cafes, a bathing room for pets, and a large 90-seat cafe. The door on the right-hand side of the entrance hall leads to the commercial and recreation complex.

The construction plan provides for a real English-style garden with large-size trees such as maples, limes, willows, firs and rowans. English lawns alternate with Moresque lawns that require no mowing. Rye, wheat, and flax are planted in patches as small islands. Part of the premises will be decorated with red plants, flowers, and shrubs.
The main square of the residential estate will have a Japanese hill with a fountain. The sloping wall of Building Two – the smaller tower – will continue in a waterfalls, with cascading water falling into a pool strewn with rock pieces and glacier boulders. For the residents, this will be a veritable oasis in their own yard, an artful imitation of wild nature, with ducks and swans on the mirror of waters.

I love the shape and design, but what use is the tower for? Commerical, or residential? Are there a lot more towers going up for Moscow like this one?

The tallest tower fasade and design are both awful, can't say the complex is nice but the second tower looks pretty good

Personally, I am not a big fan of the shorter one, but I really like the taller one.

Those are from a website (it doesn't work right now) that promotes the actual plaza more than the building, so except the picture I posted above, there are no pics with the whole tower there. Which by the way, at 75m and 19 floors is much smaller than MosFilm :).

Yes... that's what I think too. I wasn't accusing or anything :)

Anyway... what I don't like about MosFilm is that it's a bit grayish.
But overall it's a nice project and I like that type of base with those beams... kind of like taking the base of the Seagram bulding to another level.

actually that tech data in the first post is outdated. both towers seems to be increased in plans. lower is already 37 storeys tall. according to latest sources the taller tower is going to be over 200m tall.

I love the shape and design, but what use is the tower for? Commerical, or residential? Are there a lot more towers going up for Moscow like this one?

1. mostly residential; underground residential parking, guest parking, internet cafe, shopping center, entertainment center, a restaurant perhaps

Looks magnificent - but totally out of place, surrounded by a whole lot of nothing. It would better fit a more central location.

Well it's pretty close to the university and the sparrow hills appartment complex so it's just more spaced out not all by itself.

Oh no, such a tower is definetly not for historical center.

Looks like Moscow is moving up...
Great updates too.

It looks as if there will be some cluster of high rise in the surrounding, so I think it is definately not misplaced.

The cladding is, Well ive not seen anything like it before, I dont know if i like it or not, We will see when they are finished :)

With such a beautiful cladding like this I hope they install the interior air conditioning system so that people won't hang those individual air conditioner by every unit randomly all over the Building like other highrises I have seen in Moscow_ That's a No No

Seriously I hate to look at a New building with so many air conditioner hanging out on the wall very where like flies , why don't the Architect design them with a proper place for the air Conditioner so that it doesn't take a way the aesthetic standpoint of the building

Good to see that Moscow keeps moving away from the cheesy Po-Mo and towards actual classy and iconic architecture.

the cladding on this tower is totally outstanding, the window arrangment, and not to mention the overall shape, and of course, the perimeter columns at the base, this is the best creative use of form i've seen in quite some time, and done only in the many shades of grey..!!

I'm really impressed with all the construction that's going on in Moscow, (and that i can watch it happen, from the other side of the planet..!!!) and also glad it's happening, as when i was growing up, Moscow and Russia itself, was a much different place..!!!

This tower, IMO is the class act of your ever growing, and rising skyline, becouse (again IMO) it borders on sculpture, and expression, and i am most impressed in that it's all done in the many shades of only one color..!

Alright, now this is one beautiful building that uses something functional such as windows to enhance it's design. I'm loving everything about it except that tasteless adition to the right(depending on from where you view it). Yeah, that stubby building going up nearby really distracts.

Actually I like them both ,cause the combination of the two make them look even more interesting especially the taller one, it's more of a skyscraper than the other , and tasteless ? I don't know , I think it's so up to date with that twisting element edges ,for me it's just tastier :)

Sergei Skuratov is a headliner for this project, see http://www.skuratov-arch.ru if you r interested. Sometimes local professionals can grasp the atmosphere of the place better than foreign arch-stars, this should be the case.

Сейчас этот дом, расположенный в Западном административном округе, находится в процессе строительства. По словам участников заседания, вопреки первоначальному проекту застройщик возвел "лишние этажи".

Как уточнил префект Северного административного округа столицы Олег Митволь, который является членом оперативной группы, позиция города относительно самостроя однозначна - этажи будут снесены.

Ситуацию осложняет тот факт, что сейчас большая часть квартир в строящемся доме продана, застройщик должен будет вернуть деньги за купленные квартиры.

Согласно проекту компании-застройщика, высота комплекса на Мосфильмовской должна составить 213,3 м, он должен включать 564 квартиры, трехуровневый паркинг. Автор проекта - Сергей Скуратов, профессор Международной академии архитектуры. Жилой комплекс состоит из двух башен разной формы, соединенных между собой малоэтажной секцией.

With only just a handful of floors left to be cladded? Seems excessively wasteful.

As ypu can see from these photos, nothing is being demolished. This seems to be a good provocaton, because:
1. Don-Stroy has big financial problems with the Mosfilm Tower investor
2. The Moscow Government wants to compromise with Don-Stroy to decide how many floors to demolish (that's like if a unlawful-built cottage owner agrees with a government to demolish half of the cottage)
3. Don-Stroy stocks have changed its owner, now it's VTB bank
4. There's Tricolor building that's on-hold because the project was considered to be overheight, and this news can make Capital Group (the Tricolor developer) to T/O on existing height (the previous project)

Elite residential building on Mosfilmovskaya street in Moscow will be lower. This was the first deputy mayor and Vladimir Resin. According to him, the height of the tower complex is much higher than permissible. Resin called it a "flagrant violation" and said that it should be removed.
Skyscraper represents two interconnected towers of different heights - from 47 to 32 floors. Most of the apartments in this house is already sold and will oblige the developer to return the people money for purchased housing. Off-topic: there's nothing "on hold" with Tricolor, the skyscraper carries on being built. It's not growing up but it is not "on hold".

Never heard about this before that an U?C tower will get "demolished" :D ...Russian democracy at work ROFL...lets hope Medvedev has to say something about that at least.

Official reason: height restrictions are exceeded. But it was a common practice in Moscow during development boom years and Don-Stroy didn't do something unusual. But this tower is the first one which has problems with that in Moscow.

Love the little slice of Moscow politics I just got a glimpse of here. Also, a fantastic tower, one of the first of its kind that actually looks good!(The @ area in Barcelona comes to mind. Random windows and awkard angles does NOT equal good design)

Seems like it's taking forever right now... is it still stalled from the whole city hall fiasco with the previous mayor?

Currently, there is information that the issue is almost resolved positively and the building soon to be completed as scheduled.

Such a shame that it takes forever to finish this greatly designed tower. I'm going to change the status to on hold.

That was dispute with old authorities. No problems with new and as you can see from last shots they resumed cladding works.

Yeah, I don't see how a slow start-up in progress equates to "On Hold"... :ohno:

I think that the tower looks a lot like the new Gehry skyscraper in New York, though so far it just looks like a poor imitation.
