Dr. Dubai March 25th, 2007, 07:04 PM This will become a beauty!
SkyBridge March 26th, 2007, 01:45 AM Amazing tower :) with high quality cladding (chinese granite if I'm correct)!
Skycrap March 28th, 2007, 05:04 PM A nice tower for Rotterdam, but in my opinion, a to basis design. The crown is beautiful, but the rest of the tower looks a bit boring.
But anyway, a nice addiction to the skyline of Rotterdam!
Elektro-X March 28th, 2007, 08:53 PM Very elegant and sexy. :D
I don't know why, but it reminds me a little about that art deco General Electric tower from NYC.
e605 March 28th, 2007, 09:06 PM I don´t know Rotterdam, but it seems very old fashioned.
Lord_Bertrum March 29th, 2007, 12:44 AM I look forward to following the progress of this one.
As for Rotterdam being old fashioned, I also think it has some wonderful modern architecture too.
AMS guy March 29th, 2007, 03:07 AM Rotterdam old fashioned? This is the least appropriate word you could use to describe the city, or you just meant design of this tower?
SkyBridge March 29th, 2007, 01:49 PM I don't think old fashioned is the word for this tower OR for Rotterdam. Rotterdam has a unique residential tower design, where all over the world the same boring towers are built in glass and steel - all of which are greatly appreciated here.
Boven Alles March 29th, 2007, 04:57 PM ^^
I agree, Rotterdam has at least a unique language of highrises, a unique mix.
And for about quality, Rotterdam will become the 'Vancouver of Europe' as it comes to quality living in a dense downtown area with a breathtaking natural setting. The river is great, and still small enough to keep contact with the other side. The number and the quality of shops, restaurtants and other amenities is rising fast, as well as the number of residential towers.
henner March 29th, 2007, 05:15 PM A nice tower for Rotterdam, but in my opinion, a to basis design. The crown is beautiful, but the rest of the tower looks a bit boring. I agree, it's a bit boring but anyway a nice addition for the Rotterdam Skyline
Sir P von March 29th, 2007, 05:32 PM the building isn't very special, but it does have character in my opinion. and who knows, maybe it will have nice details and material in the end to set it apart from other buidlings. anyway, it's another tower for rotterdam!
e605 March 29th, 2007, 05:33 PM Rotterdam old fashioned? This is the least appropriate word you could use to describe the city, or you just meant design of this tower?
The tower, of course. Like I said, I don´t know Rotterdam :)
KoolKeatz March 30th, 2007, 07:55 PM another boring tower...:ohno:
Nathanaelll March 30th, 2007, 08:52 PM http://img96.imageshack.us/img96/6427/5wd5.jpg
its elegant and classic its just fantastic!
Golden Age March 30th, 2007, 09:45 PM Pleases the eye, black & white is not only classy in fashion. High-five to Rotterdam!
Skyscrapercitizen March 31st, 2007, 01:06 AM another boring tower...:ohno:
If you give such critics it should be nice to explain. Why is this boring and, more interesting, why is it another boring tower? Rotterdam towers seems to be far from boring to me... :)

Finally, the construction it about to begin
Sexas March 31st, 2007, 10:56 PM so...the tower is call New Orleans, and it's located next to the water...mmm. Are you sure it don't go under water? LOL LOL
SkyBridge March 31st, 2007, 11:29 PM No, because the Dutch are actually building big dams and other structures in New Orleans to protect the city from another flood. Just like Rotterdam has similar structures.
Skyman April 2nd, 2007, 05:26 AM Nice cluster and close to the water

I thought there would be 2 more towers of the same size next to new orleans. have the plans changed?
what's that black tower?
JWvW May 20th, 2007, 04:54 PM instead of two towers of the same size as new orleans, they decided to change it to three lower towers. design of those towers is very nice though. and the black tower is going to be the baltimore tower designed by foster. the tower on the picture is just to point out the location and the expected height as the design hasn't been released yet so there's a big chance it will look completely different.
Nathanaelll May 24th, 2007, 12:59 PM http://i7.tinypic.com/68kwok6.jpg
Racingfreak May 24th, 2007, 05:44 PM Baltimore is to close to the world port center!
Sir P von May 25th, 2007, 06:55 AM glad this baby is under contruction. it looks very down-to-earth for a building this big in size (compared to its surroundings). from the renders i do however get the impression that it will be a very polished, classy tower. so now rotterdam has u/c:
128m red apple
165m maastower
158m new orleans
wow, that's almost dubaian for dutch standards :) soon it will be even more! and this was my 70th post!

pescarush May 26th, 2007, 12:53 PM that s the cleanest construction site i ve ever seen! or they cleaned it for this show?!
Rotterdam is my favourite town in the world, that s my favourite cluster, Alvaro Siza is one of the best architects, this is a 'hell' of a building.
Dr. Dubai May 26th, 2007, 04:11 PM Well, the real work still has to start!^^
And btw, on picture 8 you can see the Big Boss of this forum, who of course was a VIP guest: Jan!
Guess which of the three it is;)
pescarush June 5th, 2007, 12:32 PM ^^ i only know Alvaro Siza, of cource not in picture 8:nuts:
about Jan, let s give it a try... maybe that one from the right?:)
anyway, why they named the buildings by the american cities?
Dr. Dubai June 5th, 2007, 01:11 PM Rotterdam has the 2nd biggest harbour in the world!;)^^
Where all those skyscrapers are planned, left ships to destinations as Montevideo, New Orleans, San Fransisco, etc in earlier times.
pescarush June 5th, 2007, 01:16 PM now it makes sense!
ok, maybe they should make a tower named Constanta:lol: , a Black Sea coast city and the fourth shipyard of Europe, now when it s planned a connection between Rotterdam and Constanta.
Dr. Dubai June 5th, 2007, 01:28 PM I thought Constanta was more a tourist destination?
Btw, I've been to Oradea once, it's a nice town;)
pescarush June 5th, 2007, 02:03 PM really? k. Oradea is my 2nd home, got projects here.
Constanta is touristic and industrial city, more industrial because of the harbour, and is got potential.
but Rotterdam is considered the main contemporary center of Europe, no doubt of it.

pescarush June 17th, 2007, 11:45 PM ^^ The concrete wall to the right of the pit is from the underground garage of Montevideo.
so the foundations of New Orleans will be so close to Montevideo s garage?!!!wow, interesting!
i m wondering, the foundations will be under the level of the water?
Skyscrapercitizen June 18th, 2007, 12:14 AM ^^
Yes it will be. Groundwater level in Holland is always high, so with an underground parking you are always 'under water'.
A part of the Montevideo parking wall is made thin, so an underground connection to the New Orleans parking is possible in the future.

PedroGabriel June 28th, 2007, 09:52 PM very elegant and urban. I also prefer the crown. I used to like only glass, but after seeing some granite towers, honestly, i prefer that, and it will be more beautiful and elegant than it looks in renders.

OMH June 28th, 2008, 09:15 AM This tower really looks classy..the design has something of art deco about it, its different from the typical glass/concrete-box residential towers and IMO will be one of the best looking buildings in Rotterdam when finished, and also one of the most beautiful residential skyscrapers in Western Europe.
Rotterdam definetily has done very good in terms of residential highrise buildings , especially when compared to many other european cities (for example, there hasn't been any residential highrise in Germany over 100m built since the 1970's) .. Rotterdam on the other hand, has , like Vancouver, Toronto or most recently Warsaw been in favour of constructing new highrise residentials and i hope that other cities in Europe will follow Rotterdam in this and will start building more highrise residentials.
Skyscrapercitizen June 28th, 2008, 01:39 PM ^^
Agree with that, I don't understand why for example Frankfurt has almost no residential scrapers.

Montevideo Veteran July 20th, 2008, 12:50 AM Hi, I'm new to the board. I have worked on towers and buildings around the world for many years now, working on The Montevideo of course and other projects in Holland such as the HSL for example.
My fiancée came across this site looking about The New Orleans Tower as I am a foreman on this project.
I was very interested to see the pictures today as I am in Ireland for the weekend. Once I spoke to a young guy who came onto the site and is very interested in cranes and I wonder is he on this board?
If anybody is interested in more info on this job, technical specs or otherwise I will try to check in as often as I can.

LookingUpToTheSky August 3rd, 2008, 12:30 AM The beast will wake up soon and start rising to the sky like a rocket. Rotterdam makes me happy every day with their skyscrapers under construction.
Elio di Angelis August 5th, 2008, 07:02 PM it's UC why is there still standing PREP?
Skyscrapercitizen August 5th, 2008, 11:35 PM good point, we need a mod to change it...
HD August 6th, 2008, 12:02 AM by british standards (in this forum) this is not only u/c but almost completed (the same standards say that a building is already u/c when demolition of the building previously occupying the site starts) ...

Skyline_FFM August 20th, 2008, 01:00 PM Until now this is my favourite in Rotterdam. Classic design to contrast with the modern buildings in the surroundings!
LochNESS August 21st, 2008, 12:59 PM Could one of the mods change the title as the building is U/C now :)
And yes, it seems this one will be a beauty.

NW Mike August 26th, 2008, 06:37 PM The crown looks like something from 1930 NewYork City. I do like it. Rotterdam is awesome.
Cinnafury August 26th, 2008, 09:08 PM In the future we'll be seeing a lot more projects like these in cities like Rotterdam, the idea behind it is the lack of space in the country, and the great success of other existing residential skyscrapers like Montevideo (which is located right next to the upcoming New Orleans).

Eric Offereins May 25th, 2009, 01:37 PM Building during a recession may even go quicker as more workers are available.
Fortunately, the decision to build this tower was tkane already 2 years ago. :)_

ilan July 2nd, 2009, 11:53 PM OK, this is a little off subject but while I was looking at these great photographs, I spoted the roof in this shot posted by Rietveld and was really impressed with it. Would anyone know if this is one of those pre-planted mats with seeds and is this compulsory for the buildings in Rotterdam or is this just a good trend? This will enhance the view from surrounding buildings and it just looks so darn good:

SkyBridge July 3rd, 2009, 12:15 AM These are on the HQ of OVG Project Development (they developed the Maastower). They are one of the very few developers that have been accepted into the Clinton Climate Foundation. All their buildings are "green".

Eric Offereins July 7th, 2009, 11:23 PM it looks so small compared to the KPN tower, but it will become a lot higher. This will become a very slender tower. :)
Eric Offereins July 11th, 2009, 04:17 PM 11 july. It's 17 floors high now. :)
