Skidmore, Owings & Merrill unveil their design for the Shenzhen tower

AVIC plaza stretches along a major artery of Shenzhen, bridging the old downtown and modern city center. In the center sits a retail podium, which is sited diagonally to encourage north-south movement across the plaza. Flanking the podium are two triangular plots: on the northeast plot sits a high-profile office tower, while on the southwest are more secluded apartment towers. The apartment towers connect at every third floor with two-storey public gardens and at the podium roof. Atop the retail podium is the signature tower, which will be an important landmark for the city, its twin vertical blades registering a dynamic profile on the skyline. The tower's verticality is enhanced by mullions, which are further accentuated by fritted glass extensions. These luminescent extensions provide shade the interior from direct sunlight while preserving views from the building of the rapidly growing city.

Wouldnt call it spectacular alotugh its works very well. But maybe a brighter facade than that in the renderings would do?

Chinese skyscraper architecture has really matured over the last decade. The designs are much less "out there" and more elegant and classy.

I only counted about 50 floors before the fins on top. Was there a height reduction to this? Also, whoever knows that can probably answer my other question. Is the Stock Exchange also shorter than originally thought? I saw somewhere that it was under 250m.

Though it has unsual cut design, doesn't stand out among other buildings. Nice glassy cladding.

No, I wish I could visit the construction site and find out what is going on, but that would involve a long trip. :(

Seeing it in person, 245.2m seems to be the correct height indeed. There's no way that those screens are 40.5 m tall which would be equal to roughly 9 to 10 floors. 24.4m however sounds just about right.

A new tower crane rised between those two billboards on top of the building. Does not make sense, nearly one year after was topped out and the main construction cranes were dismantled. Did they changed the height and now will rise more or did they forgot to install something big, for which they need to reattach a crane ?

There are quite a few skyscrapers in China that end up being built not according to the original drawings but are still listed with original heights. Grand Gateway in Shanghai for instance is still listed at 262m even though that was supposed to be the total height including spires that were cancelled in the end.

this is the height of the three big brothers in singapore, only that it is quite massive because its very wide. i really love it :cheers: nice addition to the evergrowing skyline of shenzhen :)
